Is it worth to stay at a Deluxe resort? Sure.. if I have a deluxe budget. But if not, then I am fine with staying at my favorite resort POFQ and my favorite value resort ASMovies!!

Disboards is too sensitive. When I say better people to go deluxe I don't mean anyone who goes to moderate or value is low quality. I'm talking about all the rude foreigners, the people who bring cases of beer into the rooms, and another feature that I don't need to say but is obvious.

I understand if you are bringing a 30 pack of Milwaukees Best but what if it is a good craft beer or an Import?

Rude foreigners? Do the polite foreigners stay in deluxe resorts for some reason? I wonder because we have seen foreigners at every resort.

Bringing in a case of beer is bad? What if it's a high quality beer?

As for the other feature, I won't even pretend to understand that. Weird comments all around.

Yes, especially if location matters or if you'll be spending a lot of time at the hotel.

I'm sorry.. is this thread still about whether the deluxe is worth the price over the moderate? Or is this thread about bringing beers and foreigners?? Did the topic change? Or should the title change to foreigners and bringing alcohol?

Both. I think some people - and I'm not even saying anyone who posted in this thread, let me make that clear - think that paying a premium price is worth it to get them into a better class of people. This is not unique to Disney. It's certainly not unique to the posters in this thread. It is true that to some people, that's one of the benefits of pricier places - being surrounded by other people who are also willing/able to pay more. It's why you go to a private college instead of state. Having gone to a community college, a state college, and a private college, I can assure you that most of the time, there is not a HUGE difference between the teachers themselves, or the curriculum. But there is a big difference in the other students, the atmosphere, etc. Hence the price difference.

I think it's clear that while there are definitely some steps up in service, room quality, food choices, room service, etc. in the different price ranges for the resorts, everyone who IS willing to shell out the bucks for a deluxe (esp. if it's a rack rate, esp. if they're routine visitors) will need a darned good reason to justify the price. The reasons will vary from person to person. Some people like the convenience and proximity to the parks. Others like the actual theming of certain hotels. And yes, there will be some who prefer to be among the clientele the deluxes cater to.

I think this statement sums it up. If you have extra money to spend at a Deluxe, go for it... if you don't, then stay at a value and I am sure you will still be happy as a clam! :hippie:

Absolutely... If this trip you can't swing one of the cushier resorts (you never know about the future!) you can *always* just spend most of your time at the parks (or even *visiting* other resorts for lunch etc. It's DISNEY. While you might not be in love with your particular room, you're not chained to it! Go find something to do outside the room!

I've had a visit in CSR (incidentally my fav of the resorts) where our room was just subpar. I dunno what it was. It was loud, there was a convention going on, and even the beds were uncomfortable for some reason. It was just an off visit. And it was too cold to swim. So we just played in the parks more than usual and only came back to the room to crash at the end of the night. No harm, no foul.

Nothing, people are just selectively reading what I typed. You seem to have understood for the most part, and you're proving my point. Nothing is wrong with bringing a drink in the room, I'm talking about the first part which is wrong, which you understand is wrong. That's why I said cases. Overly sensitive people on here read that as "he's saying we can't have any form of alcohol in our room whatsoever" when in reality, it's exactly what I typed- bringing a 6-pack isn't what I'm talking about, it's more going to the supermarket and picking up this.

And my god it's starting up again...(NOT about you, though) people coming to this thread, reading my original post and posting a pissed off response to it without reading everything else that has been established.

I looked at the Poly for our next trip but I can't justify the $655 rate for 4 of our nights. We will spend most of our time away from the room.

You know, what poster said about deluxes vs hotels in the "real world" got me thinking. We go to Hawaii quite often to see family and we always stay 4-5* but those hotels cost less than most of the deluxes at Disney. For example, we stayed at the Grand Wailea for $350/night and that place is nicer than any of the deluxes we have stayed in Disney. The Hilton we stay at is $250/night for the Concierge tower, way nicer than the deluxes. Granted we have only stayed at 3 of them - Poly CL, Contemp, AKL and upcoming BC CL. We loved the Poly but the price for the Poly is ridiculous. Funny thing is, 2of our Disney trips cost more than some of our Hawaii trips that were more than twice as long, including airfare.

We have stayed at a couple of moderates and values as well, we like them all at Disney. I get what envtd was saying, even reading some people's posts about never staying in a value or reading some trips reports, there is an obvious "air" to some people at deluxes. I kind of laugh at people like that. All in all, if you have the money and want to try a deluxe, you should, but the moderates are very nice and comfortable as well.

I think that the deluxe resorts can absolutely be worth the price increase over a mod if the deluxe is within your means and will provide you with the amenities that are important to your vacation. What I find sad are the people who only choose to stay at deluxes because they think they are high class. Just by stating this they show that they are anything but.

I love these threads; I always find them amusing on several levels. For one thing, what a PP said is perhaps the most important consideration: can you afford it? That said, I'd never pay rack rate for a Disney deluxe. With a discount, however, the game changes. I love the extra room and the location of some deluxes cannot be beat. And yes, I have found a general step up in service and general upkeep, but that's really subjective. The pools at some of the deluxes are amazing, too. And you can't beat AKL for its unique experience. Bottom line: we love the Beach Club, didn't like the much-vaunted Polynesian, and really enjoyed CSR. When we stay moderate again, and there is no doubt we will, we will be staying at CSR. The biggest thing stopping me for my upcoming trip is location and room size, as we enjoy spending time in our room.

Since I started the thread, I feel I should answer.

First off, can we afford deluxe?? Yes we can. However, I don't know if we want to and that is why I am asking if it is that much of a difference from a mod! If I am paying one thousand more to stay deluxe, I want it to be worth it!

As for us, we thought the leap of value to mod was a fair one. We live the theming of values and had to get used to the feel of por for a few days. It didn't feel Disney to us since we were used to the over the top decorations! Anyway, now comparing value to mod, we feel the mod is worth the 500 more that we spent.

I know this is just someone's opinion. We are No way near rich, but we do have money to stay deluxe. However, I am a "saver" by nature and throwing that money for something that I may regret scares me LOL

With all that said, 2013 is our ten year and it's a perfect time to see if deluded fit our family, but again I am afraid either a) it won't then I wasted that money or b) we love it and never want mod again!!!! Lmao

OP, the only way to truly find out that answer is to try it :)

People will give you responses in both directions based on their preferences, budgets, etc.

What it really comes down to is how much do the amenities bring value to you and your family - location, larger rooms, indoor corridors, better theming, table service options, transportation options - that's it in a nutshell - if those things are not important to you, than it probably would feel like a waste of money - if they sound like something that would make your vacation nicer, than it will not.

If I were asked to make your decision, knowing you can afford it, I would say yes, try it and see, but try it and see without regretting it :)

Ok here is my unique spin on this answer (at least I think, because i didn't read any similar posts). Like some have said, my first thought was YES (and this comes from a primarily moderate stayer). But, I think I can dig down deeper. For me, I have no issues taking a bus from POR to the parks. It doesn't kill my day completely. When we went last year and took my DD, who was 4 at the time, for her first trip, we had to go back to the rooms for naps and swimming a lot and it killed a huge chunk of our day. We were only there for 5 days, so it ate up a lot of my trip. So, I would say Deluxes are a must have for shorter trips, so you can get in an out of the resorts and parks quicker. For longer stays, I wouldn't spend the extra money because you can spend that money on things and experiences in the parks. That's my take.

You will get varying opinions as everyone's definition of "worth" is different, but for us, the deluxes are definitely worth the extra cost over moderates. Our first onsite stay was at a moderate, but after trying a deluxe, we haven't stayed anything since. There is nothing wrong with the moderates as we loved our stay at CBR, but we love the deluxe resorts for the amenities and overall atmospheres/locations and can't stay anywhere else. But with that said, you won't know if the deluxes are worth it for you unless you give them a try ;).

For my family, interior corridors are a must, so that is why we prefer the Deluxes. But now that Art of Animation resort has interior corridors, a Value resort may be in our future :goodvibes
