We always drive down, and use the following formula since we still have rather young children, 4yr & 8yr.

We drive to the park in the morning, and park using AAA Diamond Parking. Then we take the bus back to the resort for afternoon swim/naps. Then bus back to park for evening touring & dinner. At the end of the night, when the lines for the buses are insane, we hop in our car, and are back at the resort in no time. I love it, and wouldn't do it any other way. We've tried NOT driving for an entire week, and in the end, this way just works better for the way we tour. Might not work for everyone, but for us, it is awesome.

AAA Diamond parking is absolutely the best at Epcot, the parking spots are closer than the bus drops!

Deluxe has nicer rooms, usually a nice atmosphere, nice restaurants (depending on the resort they may have a character meal) and very nice pools.:goodvibes

Didn't read every response so just replying to OP. I picked "other" since I feel some Deluxe are "worth" it and some are not. I'll happily pay more money for AKL or OKW yet I have no desire to stay at WL again and would stay at a Moderate over that. For me the entire resort does make a difference since I like to enjoy that as well. If I had the money, I would love to stay at my childhood favorite, Poly, but I also wouldn't be willing to give up signature dinners every night. Point being, in some cases it may be worth it, and in others it wouldn't be. I think in the end it depends on the type of vacation you are going for.

This will be my first time at a deluxe resort in October. I stayed at POP last feb and was annoyed beyond belief by the kids (one kid peed on my foot by the pool, the mom didn't care just took her to their room to change). I decided on going to the more expensive resorts because their quieter and hopefully less kids. My husbands always says going to disney is the best birth control you can buy.
I love kids, but I'm obviously not ready.

I think so! We've stayed at ASMo, CBR, and Poly. I don't think we'll ever go back to value or moderate, lol.

I voted no because of what others have said. We can take longer trips by staying at a moderate. I would rather stay a few days longer than have a somewhat "better" room. The moderates that we have stayed at have been very nice for what we are looking for. We would have to give up 3-4 days to stay a deluxe. Most recently we have been staying at CSR and find the resort to be very beautiful.

If I can afford it, definitely! I want to stay at a MK resort someday.

I put other. There is not a yes/no answer to this question.

I could swing a Deluxe stay and did a few years ago. However I felt I overpaid compared to what I got/used at the resort. I might do another Deluxe stay one day but right now I'm using my vacation budget differently.

For me most of the time the up price is not worth it. The extra perks you get from a deluxe are not things I'm going to use or things that I don't really care about. Mods give me the most bang for my buck. I have done values stays and have both a MOD and a VALUE stay planned. I have no plans to upgrade either to a Deluxe.

We are in the "no" column. We will stay at a deluxe if we want to splurge or stay at a resort that we have yet to stay longer than a night. But definately not because we think they are worth it over Mods. Years ago deluxes had a lot more amenities going for them, like the only resorts with queen beds, they only had poolside games and I think movies. Once the Mods got all those (once CBR gets their queen beds in) it is really harder to justify the big $$ difference. I have to totally disagree with PP's that say deluxes have better themes, POR with their southern mansions and bayou section, CBR with their carribean theme, CSR with their 3 southwestern themes and POFQ with their mardi gras theme. I think match up with the deluxes. JMO

Infinite yes. Besides a better overall hotel, better accomodations, and (I know this will make me sound stuck up but trust me I'm not I'm just pointing out the obvious) nicer quality of people, all have their perks. AKL-animals outside rooms, BC and YC-walk/boat to EPCOT and DHS, Poly, GF, Contemporary-monorail service, BWI-shops and walking to parks (I believe), and WL-seclusion, best theming (in my opinion), boat to MK.

Since the OP clarified what he meant, and I responded before reading the whole thread, I will edit this a bit. I still disagree though. I stayed at the Grand Floridian last year. Although I enjoyed my stay, and I loved the Grand, we ran into some of the most stuck up, rudest, pretentious people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Many of them averted their eyes when they passed you in the hallway, and still more of them didn't even bother to say good morning when they packed themselves, their kids and two double stollers into the elevator with you, smushing you up against the wall without so much as an apology.

Then, we were riding the bus from Hollywood Studios back to the resort and some people staying at POR were also on the bus on their way to dinner at the Grand. They were the loveliest people I met my entire trip and I really enjoyed talking to them.

Back to the thread topic: I will always prefer Deluxe. I get weirded out by exterior hallways. And I like a balcony. So, for me, waiting 3 years or so to give me time to save up for a Deluxe is worth it.

Just need opinions here. Do you think the Deluxe resorts are worth the price increase over a mod?

No. But we stay at Deluxe resorts because we prefer them to the Moderate resorts (or Value Resorts). We have stayed at POR and it was nice. But, with a family of 5, we like the room size, amenities, location, dining options, etc. of the Deluxe Resorts. It is better for our vacation style and length of stay--at least 10 nights. The price jump of at least $1,000 plus (depending on the discount and level of room at the Deluxe resort) is heavily inflated from Mod to Deluxe IMO. However, we pay it as those are the options Disney offers and it is within our trip budget.:goodvibes

i read the thread and i think that poster meant exactly what he typed. i think he only restated it later. i still don't understand what that other thing that is obvious is. i don't say that to be argumentative i seriously cant figure it out.

we have only stayed deluxe. we enjoy staying at high end hotels in general because of the amenities and service. that said the hotels...all of the hotels...at Disney are overpriced in my opinion. we enjoy Disney though and the cost is just something we are used to.
