We're looking at cars...wife wants black exterior w/ivory interior.

I've always heard that a black car is so much hotter inside...is this really the case?

Would the lighter colored interior make a big difference?

yes!

In my experience.

We have a white van now--it has been ages since I have owned a black vehicle--but it seems to cool more quickly than my last van. But not sure how much that has to do with color as it is just a newer a/c system.

They also suggest lighter color shingles on homes in Florida (at least where I live) b/c then it will take less energy to cool your home since it isn't fighting the affects of a dark roof trying to retain heat.

Personally I haven't noticed that. What I have noticed is that the INTERIOR color makes a lot more difference. I've driven light cars and dark cars and as long as the interior wasn't dark, it didn't feel too bad inside.

I recently bought a new car and was interested in this question also. From what I could find on the internet it seems that the final internal temperature of a car is not dependent on color. A black car just gets hot faster. I would love to know if that is true or not.

hope so - we just passed on on a nice dark blue in favor of a lighter grey car this weekend!!!! We have always thought this was the case!!!! :confused3
