Are Camelbaks allowed in the parks?

The kind with the internal bladder. I did a search but came up with threads about the Camelbak brand waterbottles.

I assume it would be treated as a backpack, but want to be sure.

Also, any cautionary tales or advice in regards to this? I'd want to leave it on for rides. If that's not allowed I'd like to know.

(DD's autograph book won't fit in a fanny-pack, it's all the others are carrying, but it will fit in the camelbak pocket)

Nope, gotta take it off for rides and put it on your lap or at your feet or leave it behind entirely for some rides, but other than the annoyance of carrying one (water is free you know), I dont know why it wouldn't be allowed. I will say I have never seen anyone with a camelback in the parks though.

DH insisted on bringing one years ago and used it for only one afternoon. The water got really warm in the summer heat and was unpleasant to both drink and carry around.

I have carried a camelback for the past 3 trips.
Works great for me and the kids.
Mine is a smaller backpack with some pocket to carry stuff, 1 liter.
I typically fill it with ice and water and it last at least half the day and stays cold the whole time. We typically take a break mid day, so I refill for evening.
I wouldn't carry anything else, keeps my hands free. You are going to need free hands to carry your phone around with FP+ coming.
You will need to take off and put betw. legs for coaster rides or any rides with smaller seats. I left the camel back on for rides like Pirates, Small world, TSM.

Any idea where I can find a list of what rides I can't bring it with me at all? I assume my wife won't be on most of the coasters, but I should check all the same.

You can bring a backpack or bag on any of the WDW rides with you. Many rides have a compartment where you can put the bag; if no compartment is available, you can simply put the bag at your feet. (For rides like Rock n Roller Coaster, where the coaster inverts, I would suggest looping the strap around your ankle as you sit it on the floor next to your feet.)

FYI, if you plan to go to Universal at all, they apparently do have restrictions about what you can bring on rides with you. WDW has no restrictions.

You can bring a backpack or bag on any of the WDW rides with you. WDW has no restrictions.

That is not exactly true. The pack has to fit in the compartment. If it is too big it cant go with you (Mission Space has a smallish cubby and Soarin has a smallish basket for example). For both, you just leave the large stuff off to the side. Neither ride "goes" anywhere so you dont have to pick it up someplace else. Oh and sum of all thrills is another with bag issues. And maybe Kali if the flap cant close in the center compartment. But ZoZo is right, 99% of WDW rides have no issues with bags.

Just wanted to mention that any QS restaurant will give you a large cup of ice water for no charge any time you want. If your wife is carrying some kind of purse or crossbody bag that would hold the autograph book, it might allow you to be bag-free all together.

Camelbacks are fine. If there's some kind of weird security issue (we go to color dark Orange, or whatever the system is now) then take it empty and fill it in the park.

It's much much better for you to sip on water throughout the day then to stop and ask for a cup of water a few times whenever you get thirsty. You should try to never be thirsty by sending water in as fast as you send it out.

Gatorade packets for the win!

Stop often for a cup of ice to dump into your bladder (the one in your backpack) then the pack keeps cool and it keeps you cool and it stays full of water as ice melts.

Holy Cannoli! Why on earth do you need all that stuff??? We literally go bag free (and I bring my SLR everyday without a bag). I wear a lanyard with my KTTW, cash and credit cards. My iphone and chapstick go in my pocket and my SLR goes on this (I was leery of the capture when I first bought it, but it has worked wonderfully for 21 days in WDW, so I am now a believer ). Dh keeps his iphone and wallet in a pocket and thats it. We have never needed any of the stuff you carry in the last 20 some odd years of WDW trips.

Just occurred to me that I don't want any 'sweat' or drips to get on her autograph book...fortunately after hearing everyone's responses I'm realizing I can bring a small backpack with no problems. I didn't want to keep making the DW hold it every time we went on a ride. Leaving her standing there for the thrill rides will be bad enough.

We always take ours! I love not having to stop for a drink of water- someone just grabs the end and takes a sip as we walk
I have the "mule" style, which has pockets, separate from the bladder compartment. Nothing in the pockets has ever gotten wet, the only place that does is my back- but I found if I wrap the bladder in a small dish towel it won't.
I fill it with ice all the way to the top, and then cold water on top of that. By noon I usually have to refill it with water, there is still enough ice to make it cold. And somehow going through the bladder and the tube seems to nullify the nasty chemical taste in Orlando's water supply

oooh- also i like to throw a few Dr. Peppers in with the bladder to keep them cold!

My camelback not only has the bladder but is also a small backpack. It's almost similar to this one:

Because the compartments are separate, I have never had anything sweat or drip onto anything that wasn't in the same pocket as the bladder.

And I've worn it all over Disney without any problem. I also had a small backpack about the same size when we went to Universal in Hollywood and didnt have any issues there either.
