Are Americans really this ignorant or lazy :)

Signs like these always amaze me and have for years. But I got to tell you with all the germ, killer flu and pandemic stuff in the news, it really kind of makes me want to wash my hands even more! Maybe WDW should try subliminal hand washing techniques...It's a small world, it's a small world, wash your hands world ,it's a small, small world...

we're taught not to pee on our hands in the first place!
Ironically, urine is sterile. At least, it is if you are healthy. ;) It's all the other bits that pose the problem!

I think there should be a lock on the bathroom if your hands are not clean it will not open. because I wash my hands all the time I wish everyone would do the same.

Add me to the list of people who is alergic to most soaps. It is NO fun.

So I always carry hand sanitizer with me. You may not see me apply it in the bathroom, because it is usually in my bag & I dont always carry that into the restrooms. But you bet I use it as soon as I am out of the bathroom.

Yes, for the most part people are not washing their hands, for no reason. :crazy2:

But if you see me walking out of the bathroom without washing, dont judge me. I am heading straight to my hand sanitizer. And remember, if I DID use the soap, my hands would be blistered & raw within a few minutes. Not eactly the most comfortable.
now you have me thinking I am allergic to the soap at work my hands are raw and cracking I thought the soap was just drying them out :scratchin

Now, if they would only add signs telling people how to flush and how to wipe off the seats!

Just a thought, but these may be up because it is the law. In New York State, all restrooms that may have any kind of food workers using them need to have handwashing signs clearly posted. IF they do not, it is a Department of Health violation. Maybe this is the law in Florida too and Disney banked on it by having Sparkle sponser the signs?

I always get step 2 and step 3 mixed up so I'm glad that they have these signs up. (Just a stupid American responding)

I hear that! What would we do without those signs? :scared: :scared: :scared:

I, for one, thank God for them. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Personally I think it is more important to wash your hands BEFORE using the bathroom to prevent contaminating yourself and the TP.

Hand washing before and after using the bathroom is more important for males since their hands come into direct contact with their private parts.

And women don't?? :confused3

Americans, not all Americans, but many are ignorant and lazy - YES. I've seen lots of people walk away from a restroom visit and not wash their hands, I guess this is a "gentle" reminder. You would think it wouldn't be necessary, but it is I guess. It's so true that washing your hands is the most important thing as far as germ avoidance. Good Grief.

The problem is I find alot a people "don't like to read". There should be a voice that says "Wash Your Hands, I Mean You" when people try to walk out without washing their hands. Maybe then, they MIGHT get the message. :teeth:

I was thinking the same thing. No one reads signs anymore. Put a talking trash can in there that chases you around until you wash your hands. :teeth:

I use peurell that I either have in my backpack in the bathroom stall or out in my stoller. You can't be positive that someone did not bring their own hand sanitizer. :)

First of all I'd like to apologize for that somewhat nasty comment from Freakylick! EVERYONE forgets to wash their hands on occasion, some are more strict with washing constantly. I was born in europe but was raised state side so I consider myself European AND American and no, we do NOT pee on our hands either! please don't take offense by off comments...I guess it's a touchy subject. (no pun intended)

First of all…No one but me ever needs to apologize for me. I am my own person and what I say is only of reflection of who I am. If anybody tries to associate what I say with you or anyone else, then they are the one with the problem.

Second of all…It was just a joke. That’s why I put the wink in there. I don’t think that Europeans are nasty, disgusting, people without showers and cleaning products. I completely understand that Europeans (as much as any other group of people) know how to use a sink, soap and paper towels. I merely made the joke because OP specifically asked about Americans, which I found odd since there are such a large percentage of folks at WDW that aren’t American. Again, I have no ill feelings towards Europeans and their cleansing practices. So rest easy.

Don't know about the rest of Europe - but here in UK we're taught not to pee on our hands in the first place!

Touché! I had a comical retort, but I better keep it to myself.

Rich52, that's a really good point. However, there have been singns like these in Florida restrooms for years and years now. The whole "employees must wash hands" thing. So it isn't new. But these signs haven't been in the guest bathrooms at disney before becasue no CMs use those bathrooms. They could get fired for it. (obviously not if they are just in the parks to play- I mean costumed/currently on the job CMs) The only CMs that should be in there are the custodials CMs who are cleaning the bathrooms.
So the signs really are there, I think, as a commercial.

That being said, I don't always wash my hands in the restrooms. It depends on how crowded/crazy the restroom is. If it's to hectic in there (which starts making me claustrophobic) I just pull out my hand sanitizer and off I go.... germ free.. well 99% ;)

Yeah! I think you HAVE something there! how about a VERBAL sign? something that gently reminds you "wash your hands dummy!" people don't have to read but listening is another thing alltogether! what do you think?

Heck, I could use a few signs like that in my office bathrooms. You can not imagine how many women I see come out of the stall and walk out of the bathroom without washing their hands. I've become so paranoid that I use the napkin I dried my hands with to open the door when I'm done. And I don't eat from public food sources in the office. If I'm not the first one to touch it, I don't go near it. It's like the unwrapped pillow mints in restaurants, we call them pee mints. LOL

OH MY Goodness I thought I was the only one who uses a towel to open the bathroom door. I also see a lot of women I work with in a Corporate Office (major motor corporation) not wash their hands after using the bathroom. You can hear them pee next to you because there are only two stalls.

I also hate the women who just rinse with water. My goodness....is it so hard to later up. Just nasty!!!

This is exactly why I stopped doing pot luck at work. My office mates think I am so "unsocialable" (is that a word)....anyway. I don't know want to eat their food if they are not washing their hands.

It's like that Seinfield episode when "Pappie doesn't wash his hands and kneeds the pizza dough....Jerrry refuses to eat."
