Has anyone here successfully made spare money from home and how? I'm not looking for those crazy amounts advertised from scams, just looking to make some spare cash for vacation without getting sucked in by a scam.

Ha! I've been looking at these "work from home, all you need is a computer" jobs too. I saw several on the careerbuilder.com website, but they all come with a disclaimer from career builder. It says, "This is a non-traditional job. We try to put only real job opportunities on our website. Please do your own research and notify us if it is a scam" or something to that affect. When I clicked on the job to get more info I went to the job company's website and it said all I have to do is pay $59.95, I'd be assignd a job trainer and in a couple of days I could start earning money. Didn't say how I'd earn it or if a certain amount of money was guaranteed. I am very skeptical!

I don't think I'd sign up and pay the money unless I got the referral from someone I know and trusted who was currently working for the company and making money at it. I'm very interested to see what other posters have to say. Do any of you make money with a data entry, work from home, all you need is a computer job?

i used to work for chacha, and it's definitely legit. unfortunately, the way it's been set up the past 3 years, you make very little money. i would work 5-6 hours a day and make about $11.00. before they came up with "expeditors", i could work 3 hours and make about $20.00. however, if you're just looking for a little spare cash, it's an easy, legit way to do it.

I would look at wahm.com or workplacelikehome.com. There's a lot of good information about work at home jobs on those two sites.

I would never pay anyone any money, as the majority of those are scams. There are a few companies who do charge money for background checks, equipment, etc, so I won't go as far to say they all are scams, but a good portion of them are.

Sure there are legitimate work at home jobs, but I don't know how well they advertise. For awhile I worked from home doing data entry for a local company. We were paid "by the screen," and you could make a decent wage while making your own hours, no benefits at that company, but if you really hunted for an opportunity you might find one with benefits.

I would call local temp agencies and ask about work from home data entry, I think that's the best way to find these positions. You'll often be required to come in for a few hours of training and then have to come in regularly to drop off paper files and pick a fresh batch up.

About.com's WAHM site has a list of solely online legitimate work from home companies that is sporadically updated, but it seems they are very rarely hiring. I passed their tests with flying colors (having done this for years) and never heard back from them.

I used to do Cha Cha as well, but the money was just not there for the time I put into it.

I have an online friend who just started doing ZNZ... I don't know much about it & though she seems to be making a lot of money with it (she's been spamming the crap out of her FB page, trying to get people to sign up & has posted pics of her paypal account to show that it's "legit") it seems scam-like to me. Or at the very least, one of those obnoxious pyramid scheme kind of wah jobs.

Excellent idea!!! Thanks for the tip!

The suggestion to check out wahm.com and workplaceathome.com is great advice. You can learn a lot there, especially on their forums. Ratracerebellion.com is another site.

I work at home as a transcriptionist. I used to work in an office but transitioned to contracting with online services when I needed more schedule flexibility. I make a lot more than spare money for vacations, but I came into it with years of experience and marketable skills.

True data entry jobs are few, far between, and in high demand. I like the idea of checking with temp agencies to see if such work is available locally. You just may find something that way.

As a general rule any job that requires you to pay an upfront fee for training or supplies or anything else tends to be a scam.

Most legitimate companies will pay you while training, or at worst have nothing either way.

Please be careful, there are so many pyramid or MLM schemes out there using people with your interests as prey. There are remote customer service positions and even remote healthcare ositions, but they do not pay as well as traditional positions.

Some big health insurers also hire reps to answer client calls from home, you could try contacting one of them too. My travel agent works from home, but he doesn't make a lot, but is able to be home for his ailing parents.

John Tesh has been hawking a work at home site on the radio in my area a lot lately. Makes it seem legit until you go in and see that you have to pay to get any information. I'm with the poster who says if you have to pay up front, chances are it's not legit.

Thanks for all the advice :goodvibes I already get that sinking feeling anytime I'm on a site that gives out vague info and asks for cash which is why I came on here to see if anyone has found something legit. I know it's a tough market for the legit at home jobs and not really looking to live off the money I make (already have a full time job) just looking to supplement my vacation fund so I can go back to WDW lol Thanks again for all the info and wish me luck!;)

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is and that applies to work at home jobs as well. I have been doing call center work at home for the past 10 years. the main company has been Liveops It has allowed me to stay home with the kids. Yes I do work crazy hours especially during the summer months.

ITA!!

Sort of like those contest you supposedly "win" but you have to pay a "fee" up front to claim the prize.....:rolleyes1

I've also done ChaCha in the past. It doesn't pay much, but I can do it while sitting in my living room watching TV. It used to be pretty easy to make about $400 or $500 per month, now, I get may $50 or $75 a month if I choose to actually work at it.

You should be skeptical.

Simple litmus test. (Assume) that one is a scam because you have to pay to sign up.

Less than one in a thousand offers requiring money to sign up are not scams.

I work from home as an Independent Business Owner (IBO) with a company called Ameriplan (AP). AP been around for 20 years and will be around for another 20+ years. They arent going anywhere and probably only 1 of the few legitimate companies out there. I've been with them since December 2011 and it's been awesome. I've talked to and met a lot of great people who are with AP as well and people who are interested in working from home and even people who are interested in our benefit plans and just want to become a member.

The pay is monthly residual income and it is commission based, but if you work hard, it's so worth it! Plus we get benefits, cash bonuses, paid company vacations, get a free car once you bring in a certain amount into the company, and so much more. I looked for 7 years trying to find the right work from home opportunity, and I finally found it and loved every minute. Best part of it all, I work the hrs I want to work, no boss, I do it all online.

Many of those work from home jobs require you need quiet backgrounds, you need a PC with a wired connection, headset, etc. But with AP, you dont and that's what I like so much about it. Plus the AWESOME tax write-offs to boot! So yes, there are some legit work from home opportunities, you just have to find them. It may take awhile to find the right opportunity, and if you are looking to get rich overnight, it's not going to happen. It does take awhile to get to that financial freedom you may want, but it does happen. Many of the team members in AP have been with AP for 2 yrs and are making $25,000/yr. 1 of my upline been with AP for 9 yrs and her and her husband both are with AP, and they each make 6 figures a yr. She told me they make about $300,000 a yr combined. But they been in it for 9 yrs so they didn't get there over night.

You will hear many times don't pay to work because it's a scam. A J.O.B., yes dont pay. But when it comes to running your own business like I do with AP, there are start up cost's. And with that we get a back office, websites, etc. Every business requires start up costs of some kind weither it be online or offline. So if a company requires you to pay, check to see what you get with it and find out if it's a business or a job. I wrote this up on my about me page for my business. Maybe this will help you.

Know the difference between Work From Home Jobs and Business
Work From Home Job
•Get paid by the hour, minute, or per call.
•Most companies require you to work a set schedule, including when to take breaks, specific days off and vacation time, just like a regular outside job.
•Most of them require quiet area to work in as most companies require you to either be making or receiving calls from people.
•Must have the proper office equipment such as PC with wired Internet (no laptops and no Macs as most company software does not operate on Mac's and no wireless internet and usually need a Virus Protection Software installed), Landline phone line (no cell phones), Printer/Fax/Scan/Copier and Headset and they usually can not be done 100% online.
•Many times they require a background check that you will need to pay for and they all require an interview.

Work From Home Business
•Build a Residual Income. It will pay you for a lifetime and completely change your life. It will also bring in a decent amount of income in the process of building the lifetime residual income you want. (If you work it consistently and put in the time necessary). With in just a couple months to a few years you can be set for life and can create financial freedom. On average earn 6 figure income in 2 to 4 years.
•You work when and where you want.
•Usually do not need a quiet area to work in.
•All you ever generally really need is a computer (pc or mac) with internet access (wired or wireless) and sometimes a phone (landline or cell). Some may require additional office equipment, but not often.
Hope that helps!

Another good place is cafemom.com

I place ADs on there often and also wahm.com for Ameriplan or aka AP.
