APs are coming

It's very likely still blue-card members only. Disney typically doesn't specify blue card vs. non in press releases like these that aren't aimed at DVC members. Heck, they usually don't in official DVC communications either... usually it's buried in the fine print
It's not even in the fine print in the email or on the webpage.

Right.. and I wouldn't expect it to be.. because that's not a DVC website nor is it a DVC communication. You'll have to wait and see from DVC themselves... but I wouldn't expect anyone to get a discounted AP as a non-blue card member. It's the only significant perk they have to incentivize direct sales these days.

I renewed my Gold pass in April. I wonder if I will be able to use the free Photopass for my November trip or if they will make me pay now.

I very much want to know this too. I have a 10 day trip in late September and if I can upgrade to a DVC AP even though I'm not a Blue Card member I will absolutely do that.
I was looking for this info too! (Same here- not a blue card member)

Wondering as well— we have gold AP vouchers which we intend on activating in October.

I know this news just hit but…we have current gold AP vouchers that we intend on activating 10/2021 when we go. Will we be “forced” to upgrade those or can we use them? In the future we’ll buy the pass for DVC members but we already have the gold vouchers AND they include photo pass without a 99$ upcharge.

It does say something that you will have to chose a new pass when renewing. However, if you have the vouchers, then you have already renewed and just need to activate so would assume you will be set.

I am hoping so as I just renewed by DDs and it is linked.

So an AP for an adult now costs the same as an AP for a 3 year old or am I missing something?

thanks!!!

and if you do the PhotoPass for $99/year, and I only attach that to my band, then that means I need to be one the scanning my magic band bc if my DH does the scanning then the pictures won't show up on our account, right??

It has never worked that way. Anyone in your friends and family can tap. The pictures will simply be watermarked for them. The holder of Photopass is the only one who can download them without it.

And, it does say the price will be lower when renewing a pass too.

It says that existing passes keep their current benefits and rules.

This gets tricky. In the past, I've seen renewals upgraded to the next level when they changed the terms/types of annual passes. But this announcment specifically says that you can renew to the existing/current pass before September 8th if your in you're in your renewal window. That seems to indicate that activating a renewal after the 8th would still be considered the current version with all the current perks. But a brand new (not a renewal) voucher? That's going to be an edge case, so ... good luck.

I have a pair of Plat vouchers I'm holding on to (bought before the prices went up and before we bought DVC). I'll need to use them at some point and probably wait until we want to go during a gold blackout (if that ever happens)

It’s been like that for a decade or so. Disney got tired of some families just buying a child AP for hotel and parking discounts.

I hope they still allow regular tickets to be updated to « Gold » AP at the end of a blackout pd trip or I fear our WDW days are completely over. It’s not that we can’t pay for it, we just won’t. We really like the WDW waterparks though, so summer trips with WPs and a halloween party sprinkled in might be a way forward for us.

I will say- the ability to add water parks/more to the $899 pass is nice. That was one thing that annoyed us about the Gold pass- we had to do a major upgrade to get water parks or buy a separate pass, it's just less messy to buy it as one object.
