April 5th 07, Wonder, ANYBODY????

Oh my, C'mon people, I've seen many a post from mom x4,grandma x4. She's awesome and full of DCL knowledge.... Cruisers, now is the time to start posting :thumbsup2

Hi!
Hope you don't mind me popping in here!
thought I'd post this in between kitchen duties...

DH has said he is not interested in any kind of a cruise, he is a big WDW freak, but true to his Irish nature (pale skin, dark hair = burns like a marshmello) dislikes beaches pretty much.
He has said he'd feel too confined on shipboard--oh, he's such a ramblin' man:rolleyes:

What 5 things would you think do you might entice him to try DCL?

That is, other than thong-clad nymphets! :rotfl2:

Jean

I see you are crusin...

DH would like to do the 14 day tranatlantic next year for our 10th anniversary. Neither of us have ever been on any kind of cruise before and I am leary of this....any feedback...

THANKS!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

I almosted :faint: when I looked and saw people were posting here:goodvibes

I have been alone for so long, just Lisa and Deborah saying hello now and then:hug:

Here is a BIG :grouphug: for all of you guys!!

Lisa, great to hear from you. Hopefully you wont be so busy later and will have more time to stop by now and then.
Both daughter are doing well.We thought our doggie had kidney problems but we got test results back today and Minnie is just fine:cloud9:

Princess sparkle p,
Try a DCL cruise, you wont regret it!!! But for a first cruise I would say a 3 or 4 day just to see how you do. Then if all goes well, book the trans atlantic!! If your worried about motion sickness I would suggest deck 2 mid ship. If you want a verandah I would go for deck 5 because it is the lowest deck with a verandah.
Also when you go ( you noticed I didnt say "IF" I said "WHEN") try new things. even if you think it may not interest you, go and find out. You may be surprised what you like to do. Same thing with food. Try something new every night. If you dont care for it, send it back and ask for something else.

They dont mind and NO extra charge. Be sure and visit the dcl web site and order the free DVD to help give you ideas about the cruise too.
I was leary my first time too, but about 3 hours after I got on board i was asking my husband to book a 7 day cruise!!
Give it a try, you wont be sorry!!! Keep reading the dis board and you will learn a lot of valuable info there.
Maybe you would like to book a 3 day on 4/5/07 and join me:confused3
The ship must be empty because nobody has posted yet. :rolleyes1 Plenty of room for ya'll.

Jean,
5 reasons to get him to go hum???
I cant use the clothing optional beaches at St. Maartin or St. Thomas huh, well let's see.
How about buying him a good pair of binoculars to look in the verandahs of the ship docked across from you while in port:rotfl2:
You dont want to know what we have seen, and we wernt even trying, we were looking at the sea planes and such.
Ok, AWESOME food, as much as he wants, 24 hours a day at NO extra charge.
There is a Reas package for romance for the two of you if you want to use the old second honeymoon approach. Of course it does cost extra, but well worth every penny of it.

Live shows, if he's not into musicals thats ok, there are comedians for family and adult cabaret shows that are hilarious!!!:lmao: I cant get enough of them. 7 day cruise has a live band and dancing at night too.

if he's into sports there is Diversons sports lounge with TV's every where with sporting events on. free munchies in there too, sports trivia games, plus there is a big jumbo screen out by the family pool that often shows sporting events as well as movies. How about watching the World Series or the Superbowl on a 20x24 foot screen while laying back in a lounger next to the bar for a cold beer and pizza .

First run movies too. If he like to read or nap deck 4 is quiet and has padded lounge chairs to relax in while the kids are in the clubs or up on deck 9.

Imagine a vacation where you can relax, eat all you want, do as little or as much as you want, play shuffleboard, chip it golf, nap out on deck, see foreign places, watch movies all at no extra charge and everything so close he can walk there in 2 minutes from anywhere on the ship.
Once in port if he likes to gamble there are casinos, shopping areas to keep you busy while he gambles. Plenty of tours that arnt beach areas.

I didnt count to see if that was 5 ereasons, but it is some ideas.

My DH had NO deisre to cruise, but he knew I wanted to try it on disney,so he did it for me. He said it was my birthday, anniversary, mothers day, Christmas day present for the year. I said OK!! Of course it wasnt, but he was even more excited than me once we got on board. Immediately he started planning how to bring out the grandkids so they could experience it too.
Good luck, I hope you DH comes around, but if not, maybe a girls weekend out for a 3 day so at least you could try it and after he hears and sees pictures of what a great time you had, he may want to go to.

Littleblue22,
Howdy, i am surprized you knew who I was. Hope I didnt steer you wrong with advice somewhere along the line:eek:

It was o nice of everyone to stop by for a bit.
If anyone sees somebody who is talking about going on this cruise, please send them my way. :dance3:
This is the first time in 13 cruises I havnt had someone posting with me that was coming too.:sad2:

Thanks for stopping by, please drop in anytime,

I would LOVE to but we visited the world 2x last year and our pockets are a little empty...LOL.

What do you like about the DCL vs others? What do you like about cruising? I am a always on the go typer of person- what are your favorite activities ? I am so afraid I will miss the parks- I cant imagine doing Disney and not seeing the parks!!!

I love the parks too!!!
We live close to WDW so we go 3 or 4 times a month and I still havnt got tired of them. But on the curise I was so busy I never missed the parks. It is a totally different type of vacation. Mnay to a 3 day cruie and 4 days at the park or 3 days at the parks and 4 day cruise ,s o they have the best of both worlds.

I like DCL best because they offer most things in the curuise price. Manyother lines charge extra for all but one or 2 restaurants, some even charge extra for events on the ships. Plus I dont drink, smoke or gamble so the idea of a casino doesnt appeal to me. Too many horror stories where late inthe evenings there are drunk people wandering around the halls near the casinos all mad because they blew their money. Swearing and even vomitting on the carpet. Quite a few other lines allow smoking in the rooms and donthave NO smoking rooms. My huband is allergic to cigarette smoke so we cant stay in a room where someone has been smoking.

Most of all it is the people on DCL. They are all so friendly in a genuine way, no phoney smiles and they all acknowledge you as you pass by, on other lines they are not that way. They are polite but never go out of their way to make your stay special. I also love dcl's rotational dining and keeping the same wait staff. Most of the other lines you have to pay extra unless you go to the buffet everynight and if you do go to the restaurant you will have different wait staff all the time.

I do think that RCCL has a better teen program due to things like rock climbing wall and miniature golf, and things like that, but DCL has a very good teen area too. For young kids NOBODY can beat DCL's young kids programs, in my opinion.

Plus nobody else shoots foreworks off the ship!!! I love that!!

I guess what i love about cruising is you can do alot or a little. If you want to learn to line dance, fold towels into cute animals or cook gourmet foods you can do that or is you want quiet tiem to curl up with a book or nap you can do that too. There are enough things to keep you busy that everyone stays spread out all over the ship so you never feel crowded except when the theater fills up for the evening show. Also No dishes, NO cooking, NO cleaning toilets or showers, No making the bed!!! I love to see all the families having such fun together!!

I also love going to foreign ports to see how other cultures live. I appreciate our country more each time i travel!!! People have been very friendly every where we have gone.

For me cruising is the ideal vacation because I am very laid back type of person and I love to try new things. I have some medical problems that limit me at times, but no matter how I feel I can always find something fun to do on a cruise. I love to watch the ice carving demonstrations too.

just so much fun to have, it is something that is hard to explain the feeling on board. I never would of believed that a crusie could be so much fun, until I tired it for myself. Now we are all hooked on it.
I sure hope you will get to try it too.
The only bad thing about DCL is the price. But i do think the difference in the atmosphere on the cruise makes it worth the extra, even if it means not going as often as you may like to go. I save ALL our change and every one dollar bill we get. We do NOT touch them for anything. It is surprizing how quickly I have enough to pay for tips, excursions and souvenirs too!!

Hope that answers your question,

Kathy

Thanks for the tips, Kathy!
I think I will do the, 'for my birthday I want a cruise' approach:thumbsup2

He'll love the sports & eating!

Jean

Just wanted to say hello...no vacations or cruises planned yet, but my mother has said lately that she'd love to go to Disney again soon and I think she might enjoy a cruise, too. We just have a few family things that need to be resolved before we can do that.

Cruising the Cruise Boards....

My brothers and their families have both been on Disney cruises, and keep telling me to go.

I can't decided if I should, with the 4 kids and all.:confused3

WELCOME, boy it's great to have people drop by, even if your not on my cruise!!!:goodvibes

Howdy, Itsapriateslifeforme, I love your name!!
Maybe it won't take you too long to get things resolved. You'll love the cruise it is so much frun for all ages. Plus it saves if you can book a year or more in advance, so maybe you should try and book something a year out and by then you will be able to go, if not you can get your money back if you cancel a ways out or just change your deposit to a different date.
I hope you will get to go soon!!

Babynurse1, Of course you should go, even with 4 kids. I had 4 kids too and now 4 grandkids. If the kids like it there is something to entertain from babies up through the teen years. :thumbsup2
That will make them happy and you too.
You can have a little quiet adult time to relax.
With 4 kids you need a break!!! No cooking, no dishes, no housework, someone else will clean your room and bathroom. How does that sound??:confused3
You entertainment is close by, no extra charge, or just relax by the pool. So many great things to choose from to keep busy or just relax.:dance3:
The only draw back to a disney cruise is, you will get hooked!!!:wizard:
Then you will spend all your time figuring how and whenyou can go again and again and again!! It is habit forming, but it is a good habit:goodvibes

Hope you will try it soon,

kathy

So, Mom4XG4, when is the DIS meet? What rotation do you have, Are you doing Palo? HIgh tea? Palo brunch? Who's all traveling with you in group fam wise? Wow, I found a way to post on a cruise thread :woohoo: . This cruise is before my fellow cruisers furure cruisers. Oh lucky me!

Hi again!!!!

Great to see that you have company over here now!!!!

I'm just cruising through all my threads to say Hi!!

Hello!
I am going to slooowly bring up the cruising subject, just a little at a time.
That'll give me time to research, too.
I'm dying to see Castaway Cay!:woohoo:

I think we should try a shorter DCL cruise first.
What are some of the shows the ships' offer?
Will we be surrounded by squealing kiddies?

Of, course my DS never squealed :rotfl2:
Gee, I sure hate BabyNurses' sweeties to disturb DH
:rotfl:

Jean

I hear ya on that one!!!!

We have been considering a cruise for ages. Here is my #1 question for the experts:

How important is your cabin? Do you really spend much time in it? I would imagine that I may see it the same as I see staying at Pop Century....not going to spend $500 more to stay in a moderate OR $1300 to stay in a deluxe!!!! VERY nice and all....but we're really hardly ever there......is the cruise experience somewhat the same??? :confused3

Good morning to everyone!!!:cool1:

Ok, rooms dont really matter that much to me because we are hardly ever in them accept to sleep and change our clothes for dinner, but my DH loves to look out the verandah so we usually haveone, which is fine with me, I love them too, but I was happy on deck 2 with a port hole window too.
I do love the split bath and a few rooms dont have them. That does come in handy when showering and dressing for dinner.

Shorter cruises are great just to see if you like it. My first was a 4 day, but I could of went for a month!!!!

The welcome aboard show is a must see, usually a comedian or ventriloquist who is also a comedian, some characters, and singing and dancing. But you get to meet the Captain and officers too.
On the Wonder I believe it is still Hercules and The Golden Mickeys, both are excellant shows. On the Magic you wont have Hercules but you hace Dsiney dreams and Twiced Charmed. I didnt care for Twiced Charmed, but most loved it. disney dreams is verygood.
Lots of characters for the kiddies (and Me) to see in Disney Dreams and The Golden Mickeys!!!
Ther is also a farewell show which is very good. On the longer cruises you change comedians during the trip too.
Yes there will be lots of noisy kids int here, but it is amazing how quiet they get when the show starts, especially when characters are on stage, of course there is thunderous applause when they first appear on stage.
Love the Matinees when offered, they arnt as crowded and they dont shorten the show at all, you still get a full show andit makes the evening more leisurely.

Anytime you see a family or adult cabaret show offered in the evenings, go for it!! They are usually hilarious!!!!

well so far on this cruise, NO dis meet because I have the ship to myself it seems:( Normally I have them at 3 p.m. the first day int he Promenade lounge and that has always worked great. Not doing Palos, due toa medical condition I cant eat any of the food on board,:sad2: so I just go and sit through dinner and visit with my family. Love to see the presentations of the foods anyway. I use to be a cook in many restaurants so I love tosee the plating.

We have done almost every excursion at nassau, but still havnt done Andrasa gardens (spelled wrong) so we will do that this time , then shop some.

I do have 2 7 day cruises booked too, but have many dis friends on those threads!!!I am so happy all of you have dropped by to say Hello again.
Please come by any time. This is fun to have someone to chat a little with, plus it keeps me on page 1, because I am still hoping to find someone who is cruising with me!!!:woohoo:

So hello to all of you and I am going to go and ride our 4 wheelers for the first ime, accept the safety class, so will be gone till afternnon,

enjoy your saturday I and I will check back soon,

Kathy

Just explain to them you found a little old (well maybe not so old??) granny who was very lonesome and very pathetic because she was all alone for months on her thread:sad2:

Then they will think you are such a sweet person for helping a stranger:cloud9:

We just got back from riding our 4 wheelers. It was my first time. Boy I have muscles where I never dreamed I had muscles.:rotfl2:
I did ride for a safety class, but I got ill and didnt finish it. So today was my first time actually riding. I only messed up twice, but I was very slow. The area was plenty wide enough everyone could go around me, including little kids who left me in the dust:confused:

It was a lot of fun, but by morning I will be visiting my old friend Mr. "Ben Gay "I'm sure:laughing:

Hope you are having a good saturday too!!!

Kathy
