It's fancier than my formal dress. So at least you won't be the worst dressed! :)
And I may just do the same dress for formal and semi-formal night. And Palo brunch. ;)

Your wearing your formal night dress to Palo Brunch? Boy I'm I going to look like a frump. :lmao:

From a new trip report:

We just returned from a week on the Magic and we had a fantastic time.

We arrived at the port about 9:45. They told us to park across the street until the port opened. They let us in about 10:10.

The seas were really calm the whole week, hardly felt the movement at all. The weather for the rest of the week was pretty nice, not too hot, not too cool.

Castaway Cay Day was absolutely beautiful.

A couple of key points:
1) They weren't allowed in till 10:10am.
2) The boat docked at Castaway Cay.

Our DS 9 is in Cub scouts, and our DD 10 is in her 6th year of Girl scouts, and DS15, is FINALLY done chemo, that is about all the activities we can handle right now.

VERY excited to be starting to pack for the cruise. ..

Lots to drop off for dry cleaning. . .

Newest happening here, was DS 9 had a deer tick imbedded in his head, had to go to ER yesterday to have the head of the little bugger removed. . . we are hoping to escape lyme . . . time will tell. . .

Funny thing was . . . first thing that popped into my head was Ohiominnie story of kitty litter kidney stone. . . not sure why, but it was just a bizarre day. . .

Down to 39 days. . . woohoo

:drive: Has anyone ever rented a car in Sint Maarten? :car:
Avis and Budget are located only at the Airport :dumbo: and the cost to the airport is $18.00.
Are there any good car rentals places at the port? :boat:

Good morning everyone - happy Tuesday!

sorry - can't help with the car rental. Both times we've been to St. Martin we've taken DCL tours. This time we're just planning to check out the shopping in town and then relaxings back on the ship.

Good Morning Mary,

Happy :yay: Happy  Tuesday

Thanks you anyway, we may be doing the same as this is where our excursion was canceled, so therefore I had this idea, lets wing it and rent a car and see the beaches and the islands.

It really makes no difference, we are going to have an awesome time, no matter what.

A few pages ago you mentioned a meet at dock 3 at Prom lounge at 3pm,
we are good with that or anywhere else, even on deck 10, in the sun and heat. After the winter we had in the north east we can take the heat even in death valley, California. Right Karen?

'For us, we are down to 34 days before we shoot our of here for the Magical World of Disney.

Everyone have a Great Day

yaaaaahoooooo! :dance3: :cheer2:

Sharing the Good Life!

Let's do an official count for the DIS meet. This is for the official meet and greet to be held Saturday April 26th. Your choices are:

A) 3pm in the promonade lounge on deck 3 (this is inside)

B) 3pm on deck 10 mid-ship on the side by the dock (this is outside)

Everyone please vote. This is a time for you lurkers to come out of hiding as well. :rotfl:

I'll tally up the totals we have by end of day Thursday 3/20 and whatever location has the most votes is where we'll have the meet.

Sound good to everyone?

A small word of warning about this, unless I'm thinking of a different island, I think there are a few um... clothing optional beaches on the island. Now mind you, from reports the beachgoers arn't exactly fashion models. :lmao:

my ticker says 1 months, 1 week, 1 day! :) It's getting so close, and I feel so unprepared all of a sudden!! I can't wait for spring break next week so I can get organized and ready for the trip!

Have a great day everyone!!

Mark,

Much thanks on the beach reminder, we did hear of the French side being more exposed. We have taken the information to the net and have found a couple of beaches on the northern island end that meet more to our wishes and comfort level. :scared1: We are more looking to find shopping and snacks out of the regular tourist spots.

Mary,
We vote for the meet at the Promenade Lounge deck 3. :thumbsup2

We will vote this just b/c it may be more comfortable for more than being in the possible sun and heat at 3 in the afternoon. But we have no problem with either and give our blessing on both.

34/go

Hi Kay, (dreamcometrue)

Just a note, I went back a page or two to catch up on the board as I sometime miss a day or two and of course update the DW.

Everyone is going all out, look what Mary started.

Your dress for the formal night is just wonderful, :thumbsup2 what a find. Your going to love taking all the pictures you can. Great job. Isn't it fun! These moments don't come every day. Live them as ofter as one can.

We have been shopping every Monday for the past two months. The DW has purchased 3 dresses for formal nights/Palo's and when the next Monday comes there is another new dress replacing the one before. The closet is now full. Thank the Lord :worship: the airlines only allow two bags each with weight limits, and only one of the bags is mine.

Have a great day!

39 days to go. woohoo :goodvibes

We are going to rent a car (jeep) in St. Maarten. :car:
Here is some advice from the boards:

Gets fairly hilly with winding corners the further north you get, (Orient beach area). I have seen far worse streets in major cities in North America. I felt completely safe as did my wife, our daughter had a great time. In Canada if you rent a car on your credit card, most will honor the insurance, Not too sure about in the Caribbean, peace of mind for a $15 insurance charge I think is money well spent. The car rental company will give you a well marked map, wouldn't worry about getting lost.

We rented a car in St Maarten in Feb and had no problem at all.The rental agencies are just to the right in the taxi area or opposite of where you would get on the water taxi to head to Philipsburg. If you hit the St Maarten sign, you have gone too far. We didnt have a reservation and had all kinds of vehicles to choose from and one of them was a jeep for around $80 U.S. without the insurance, you can haggle on price and drop them down very easily and you will see why when you get there. Its a gauntlet to get through and all the companies are trying to get your business over the competition. Do"Not"rent form the Anguilla Brothers or family, they will give you the better price but their vehicles are sub standard and not what they will show you on the display card. We rented from them and the car we had would not start a few times and it looked as though we may not make it back in time to get on the ship. I am a mechanic and this car would have been pulled off the road in North America.Stay with the big companies, Budget, Tilden...Do the big circle of the island with Oyster Bay, Orient beach, then just follow the road all the way to the top into the french side to Marigot, down to Maho beach and then back into Philipsburg. Total is around 40 miles with all kinds of fantastic places to stop for pictures and purchase gifts etc, way cheaper than the cities, less than 1/2 of what you will pay in Marigot and Philipsburg for the same items. Was by far the highlight of our cruise, great way to see the real island, way cheaper than the excursions and we hit 4 beaches. There is an area right by Maho beach where you can park the vehicle and walk down to where the planes land.We had to pay for parking but still amazing pictures.Have fun and stay away from those Anguillian characters that will try and get your business, shady characters!!

Mary,

I'll also vote for the Promenade Lounge deck 3.

Besides the heat, there could be rain/lightning. On our last May cruise, it was warm, but uncomfortably windy.

We almost need to bring a cheetsheet - a roll call who's who. ;)

Hey Randy,

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the dic update. That settles it we are also renting the car and touring the Island.

The boards rule! :thumbsup2

Hi All,

I haven't been on for so long.... I had to update my registration. I forgot my password and when I asked for it to be sent to me, it didn't recognize my email.

Well - I'm back. We were out of our house from October to the end of February. The bottom floor had flooded when a pipe burst under the kitchen sink. The plumber thinks it was due to the fires in the area at the time and the change in water pressure. I did re-do my kitchen and it is beautiful.

I have so much catching up to do. I did not move my computers to the apartment and I never checked disboards when I used the computers in the apartment's business center.

Glad to be back. Talk to you later.

Jen

wow Jen!! welcome back! I really missed you! Sorry about your house, but hey, you got a new kitchen out of the deal ;) Glad you can join us again!

We vote for the Lounge on deck 3 (I think...we have never been on the ship and don't really know what is better, but confined areas are probably the best bet for my 21 month old!!!)
I can't wait to meet everyone even though I have been mostly a Lurker.
