You, of all people, know my history with animals. I think getting one kitten is a big enough deal for us right now. :) :lmao: :rotfl2:

how old are they? are they cute?
can you alter their birth certificates so that my children don't know they were born in Michigan????? :lmao: :rotfl2:

Actually only 3 of them are still kittens, they are about 4 months old, we had them fixed before we brought them to the farm I didn't want any additional kittens. We started with Snickers (the mother) she had two kittens last year (rascal & smudgie) and three this year (mittens, gizmo & gremlin), but NO MORE she also was FIXED - (if she had had another litter of kittens she would have been broken)

I had to do a double take. I didn't think this was gaRRY typing this post out! :) I told dh today that gaRry reminds me of my dad....sometimes he emails me and I have to squint to make out what he's saying. Or I'll forward it to Mike with a note "do you have any idea what this means?" :lmao:

Shucks that you live so far away. If you were around the corner, we'd be popping in to look at your babies. :)

you mean you would cross that line and come into the OTHER side?????????

No. I said if you lived closer. You'd have to live in Ohio. :lmao: I mentioned to KT that you had 6 kitties and they are FREE and already fixed.....but the catch is they are from Michigan. And she actually SCREAMED and said "NO WAY!"

we named our last cat Wonder gee where did we get that idea:confused3 Kay we have a couple of ideas about a cruise name. we be "Pirates on the carribbean" aye and we be the last cruise for she heads to the setting sun. maybe you and use these ides together somehow

Sounds like you need another cat so you can have BOTH ships represented. :)

Are we the last cruise before the canal crossing? I thought there was one more after us, but I could be wrong. :confused3 :confused3

Karen you are right there is one more western cruise after ours so we are the last Eastern carribbean cruise

new member in the family (oh good heavens NO! i'm not pregnant)

new kitty. well, we do have 48 hours to change our mind. :) they have to contact our vet. our other cat needs a rabies shot (our vet told us he didn't have to have it cuz he was an inside cat, this place requires it---jump through hoops) then he has to be scheduled to have his surgery to fix him (i didn't know he was broken)

they said it could take....ACK....up to a WEEK to bring him home. humane society my foot. that's INHUMANE to make two kids wait a week to bring a fuzzy kitten home!!!

we have to go back in the next two days to show proof of rabies vaccine for our other cat and pay. will take camera then to snap a picture. he's really little, mostly white except a bit of orange-ish brown on his head and his tail. (yes, we're like the only ppl in the US who don't have a camera phone.)

while playing with him at the humane society, we threw out names left and right. we started leaning towards a DVC inspired name...saratoga...no....beach....no....wilderness...no, not wilderness....what's IN the wilderness? MOOSE! yes. we all cracked up and it kinda stuck! besides, the two patches of color on his head look like the spots where antlers just might grow in! HA!

U-TOP

I guess it is good that they ensure you get him fixed and provide the proper care! But it's hard to wait! Try waiting 5 weeks for a Golden Retriever puppy, or even longer. Our first one, we had to wait 5 weeks, the 2nd one we knew when the female was in heat, then we had to wait to get the pregnancy confirmed, waited through the whole pregnancy and then for 8 weeks after the pups were born. It was torture!!!

BTW, I like the name Moose, it's cute!

are they cute?

what kind of a question is THAT??? Aren't all kittens cute?

A few weeks ago, Josh went outside and found a kitty sitting on our doorstep! About 6 months old, all grey. So cute! I fed it and gave it water and the poor thing was totally starved! Of course, he never left! Well, my DH says we can't keep him, so at first, we just kept him on our front porch, he didn't go anywhere! Kids made him a bed and we fed him every day! I was hoping Alan would change his mind, but no. And honestly, it wouldn't be fair to our other pets. We have one cat and she wants to be an only cat. After my MIL passed away we took her cat in and our cat started peeing all over the place because she was so mad. We thought it would just be a phase and pass, but it never did, so we had to give my MIL's cat to my SIL. At least he stayed in the family! Our cat has been happy ever since! So it really wouldn't be fair to bring another cat in!

Anyway, a friend of mine does pet rescue/adoption, and I called her. She picked him up to get him fixed, get him shots, etc. But then she called and said we'd have to foster him until she can take him to pet adoptions. So he's been living in our downstairs bathroom since Wednesday! *sigh* We let him out every now and then, my other cat is upstairs. For some reason, she will not leave the master bedroom since we have moved in this house in July. It's a huge master bedroom/bathroom, so she has plenty of space! The pet adoptions didn't happen this weekend, so we'll have to keep him for another week! It's hard because the kids get more and more attached to him (and so do I!!)

last Eastern. It's strange, because even after the Magic returns from CA, there are only like 3 more Eastern for the rest of the year!

um. no. we saw a few today at the shelter that were....(shudder)..not so cute. not a fan of the "tortoise" coloring. but yes, most of them were adorable.

oh, I really don't wanna hear that. dd is afraid that a new cat will change the behaviors of our existing indoor cat. we've put off getting another cat b/c dh and i did have a cat once that seemed "lonely" so we got another. cat #1 went from sleeping with us every night and being social, to being rather withdrawn. luckily no litter box issues!!

so we are worried that this will change the cat we have, although he's a very social cat and seems to like our outdoor cat (we live on a couple of acres and this cat just LOVES being outside) he gets along with my parent's dog when she comes to visit.

argh. :confused3

of course, this kitten will be introduced into the family the "right" way. we just dumped cat 2 in front of cat 1 the last time and maybe that's why there were issues.

Today we are having a family baking day at my Aunt's house. My dad loves to cook Norweigan dishes that he learned growing up on the farm in North Dakota. My dad is going to teach all that are interested how to make his famous dishes.

How was the day of cooking? What kinda things did you make? Learning to cook from my mom is an adventure....."put in some of this until it looks right......some of this until it tastes right.....some of this until it's thick enough....."

try to repeat THAT recipe!!! :)

The only Norweigan foods I know can be found at Epoct in the bakery.....chocolate cake, pretzels with raisins and glaze and almonds, coca-cola. ;)

hmmm...that's what we did...dump one in front of the other! Maybe that's why she hated that one! So, what would be the right way to introduce them? I haven't introduced the one that just showed up at our front step to our other cat, since she's only upstairs!

Well, I first heard of it on the DIS when someone found a new kitten and many smart DISers explained how to introduce it to the existing cat. And then today at the shelter we picked up a pamphlet about how to introduce the new kitten to older cats.

Basically you close the kitten up in a room of it's own with it's own food and water and not give it the roam of the house. This makes the new kitten not feel threatened by a territorial cat and makes the older cat not feel like a new intruder has arrived. Then the shelter pamphlet describes how you should (after a little while) start feeding both cats on opposite sides of the door ....both right up against the door. Then give the new kitten the old kitten's bed or rug, and vice versa for the old cat. Then, using two doorstops, open the door just enough so they can see each other and touch noses, but not get at each other.

So a slow and gradual introduction to each other.

Plus, yippie, they each get their own litterbox (we didn't do that last time either)

Hey, found this on the web and it looks like our shelter is using basically this information from the main humane society page:

http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/o...tip_sheets/introducing_pets_to_a_new_cat.html

ok, thanks! Still not sure if we're going to keep the one that showed up here, DH still says NO, but maybe I can gently introduce the two cats and see what the existing one will do!
