April 21, 2007 -- Western Magic -- anyone?

:sad::sad: I missed everyone today! I had severe withdrawals from you all! Unfortunately, I spent my day IN THE HOSPITAL! :crazy2:   Darn kidney stone decided to get lodged. But it finally passed. :thumbsup2 I'm just glad it happened now instead of a month (or more) from now.

I'm wondering if you would mind if my DD(12) and I joined you if there is availabilty.

We would love to have you join our group! Amy signed their family up before I did, and I just put in the comments section that we would like to be with the Rodgers family from St. Petersburg, FL. I got a confirmation email later that day saying it was set up that way.

I'm cracking up at the info we all missed during the thread stalking day. :rotfl: What can I say, we were on a roll! It was fun though. Do you think we'll all meet at the port and have nothing to say? Doubt it.

I said "I might put dark red highlights in my hair" just to see his reaction. He said "Go for it!" Sooooo, I just might follow through.

I keep having this vision in my head that when we all meet at the terminal, we will go running up to each other with huge hugs--like long, lost sisters meeting in an airport who haven't seen each other in 30 years! :lmao: And if you have red highlights, I will definitely know who you are from across the terminal! I say go for it, too. You've got the guts that I don't have. I had wanted some red added to mine when I had a lapse in judgement and cut mine a few years ago, but one drastic change was enough at that time.

I've never been to any of them, but I certainly would LOVE to at least attend the martini one!!

We're planning on the martini tasting, too...and possibly the beer :drinking1 (for DH). He thought maybe margaritas, too, but I'm not sure. Hopefully they're not all on the same days at the same time (usually sea days, right?), but if they have them too close together, boy, watch out...I'll be a drunken punkin. I'm such a lightweight!

Hi Val - I was just getting ready to head to bed, but had to say HI and I hope that you're feeling better now! I don't get stones, but my brother does, and I know the pain that they caused him.

Nahh, I think that it'll be long lost friends!!! That's the way that it was with my last DIS group. We had all become such good friends that it was like a reunion, and not a first meeting.

Heck, maybe to get some of the "quieter" people on this thread talking, I should break out my old group's "Get To Know Your Fellow Crazy Cruiser" questions. We would ask things like what's your favorite color, what's your dream disney job? And we found a LOT of commonalities, and it was fun to get to know people.

I used to have red highlights, but now I need something a little more powerful to cover the grey. I don't have TONS, but it's creeping in and I DON'T LIKE IT!!!

I'm with you there, I couldn't do too many tastings, because I may be a big girl, but I can't hold my liquor because I don't drink much. I do enjoy a good drink, I just don't do it often. But, I am looking forward to yummy Konk Koolers on Castaway Cay!!!

Yeah, pretty painful all right. This was my third one but the first one to be "caught" to be able to send to pathology. I don't want to have any more, so if they can find out what it's made of, I can modify my diet, if needed, to prevent more. But I'm definitely feeling better now. It really was some of the most intense pain I have ever had. I was .

"Reunion-like" is what I was thinking, too.

Sounds good. Lets hear from everyone! I"ll start. Blue and black. Unsure of the Disney job--I just want to play Disney, not work it! ;)

But, I am looking forward to yummy Konk Koolers on Castaway Cay!!!

Oooooooh! What is in that? I'm so glad I don't have to be a designated driver for this trip! (I usually am.)

Ok, here it is, our first version of
Get To Know Your Fellow Cruiser!!!
1. Have you ever taken a Disney cruise?

2. If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why?

3. What is your favorite Disney restaurant?
4. What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?

5. If you could have ANY job at Disney, what would it be?

Come on out, all you lurking cruisers!! We want to get to know you too!!!Have fun and enjoy!!!

Ok, I'll go first!!

1. Have you ever taken a Disney cruise?
This one will be our 5th. Two previous DVC 4-night cruises, 1 4-night Valentine's Day cruise and 1 7-night Western.
2. If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why?
Magic Kingdom, because nothing can get you in the Magical mood like seeing the Castle!!!
3. What is your favorite Disney restaurant?
Right now, it would probably be 'Ohana. We love the food and the atmosphere!!!
4. What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?
It's DHs 40th birthday, and my youngest DDs 3rd birthday.
5. If you could have ANY job at Disney, what would it be?
I would love to be one of those VIP guides that take around celebrities!!

Ok, who's next?????

1. Have you ever taken a Disney cruise? No, I have never cruised in my life. I've always wanted to cruise DCL though, and can not believe I actually get that chance soon.

2. If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why? Magic Kingdom, because there's nothing like entering the park, looking down Main St. and seeing that castle.

3. What is your favorite Disney restaurant? I loved the 50's Prime Time Cafe. I just have a "thing" about that time era - I love the atmosphere, and the decor - well, some of it....they can keep the greens/orange/golden yellow stuff. It's one of the restaurants I remember most about our last visit soooo many years ago. In fact, I want to fix our basement room up in '50s stuff, like Lucy posters, black & white flooring, etc.
4. What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?
Because it fell during DD's birthday. What better way to celebrate?

5. If you could have ANY job at Disney, what would it be? I'd love to make the special occasion cakes for those celebrating events - and help with all the special baked items.

Now, all you other quiet lurkers, please join in. I would love to hear from you. No need to be quiet anymore. :rotfl:

Val, I hope you are much better today. I've never had stones, but my mom did a lot when I was growing up - I remember her describing the pain.

I think full planning mode has officially hit me now. I went to bed last night thinking of all the info I'll need to take with me, such as printouts for excursion locations, info from the car service, etc. It's no wonder I didn't dream about it too! If I did, I don't remember it.

Amy, keep on with the questions! I think it's a great way to get to know others, plus we find out things we never even thought to ask. :thumbsup2

I knew of several people on our last cruise that had notebooks with page protectors with all of their information. I know that it helped them keep everything straight.

I know, aren't they great! We had TONS of questions that we asked, about every week. So, maybe I'll try to put new ones out each Monday. Some are Disney related, some are not. It's just amazing what you learn about someone from asking off-the-wall questions. And, I promise that none will be about politics or religion. :thumbsup2

1. Have you ever taken a Disney cruise?
Yes, this is our second.
2. If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why?
The Magic Kingdom...I love to walk up Main Street and see the Castle. Epcot is a close second.

3. What is your favorite Disney restaurant?
I'll have to think about that one I have several. My DD would choose the 50's Prime Time Cafe. My DS would choose anyplace that has chicken tenders. (We are so trying to broaden his horizons!!!)

4. What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?
We had such a great time on our first cruise. We re-booked while onboard.

5. If you could have ANY job at Disney, what would it be?
Mary Poppins at 1900 Park Fare My children's reaction....:scared1:

Val, I hope your feeling better. Take care

1. Yes, we did a Land and Sea in 2004.
2. Epcot - it speaks to my inner-geek and it has one of my favorite restaurants.
3. 50's Prime Time Cafe and Rose and Crown. I like the atmosphere and food at 50's. The Rose and Crown makes me feel like I am in England (my mom was born and raised in England).
4. To be honest, if we weren't so impatient we wouldn't be on this cruise date. We wanted the first full week of May (10th Anniversary), but when we booked the date wasn't available yet because they hadn't announced the Med schedule yet. But, we chose this week because we wanted Western and it was cheap.
5. Imagineer. Again, it speaks to my inner-geek.

1. Have you ever taken a Disney cruise?
No. This is our first cruise ever.

2. If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why?
Probably WDW.

3. What is your favorite Disney restaurant?
I'm going to have to be embarrassed by this one. I've only been to WDW once for one day when I was probably 12. I sure don't remember what restaurant(s) we even ate at.

4. What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?
10th Anniversary

5. If you could have ANY job at Disney, what would it be?
Again, the only thing Disney I've done is WDW many years ago, so I'm not even familiar with all the fun jobs that Disney has to offer, so I'm not sure about this one.

1. Have you ever taken a Disney cruise?

this is our third cruise -- first was 12/04 we did land/sea with 4 day Wonder cruise, we were hooked :thumbsup2 then we booked the Thanksgiving 2005 cruise for a double-dip at Castaway Cay and to try out celebrating a holiday away from home. Fortunately for us in the holiday spirit my folks booked too and we celebrated my DF's thanksgiving birthday onboard.

2. If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why?

if you mean overall Disney parks; I would love DisneyParis just b/c i'd love to go to Europe. At WDW my favorite is such a toss up i love them all, MGM for Tower of Terror, MK for rides including my all time fav Carrousel of Progress, EPCOT for world showcase dining and AK for shows. ok, just one day i'd probably go to MK

3. What is your favorite Disney restaurant?

hands down -- BOMA

4. What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?

On out 11/05 cruise Preston who treats me oh so well (but doen'st like me to tell :rolleyes1 ) gave me a nod when i gently pushed the rebooking option, one suttle nod and i was off to the booking desk. I picked this cruise b/c we wanted Western itinerary and it was the furthest date that was open. Also, we had a quite rocky (IMO 12-15 ft waves) first night 11/05, I asked the pedicurist that week what was the best month to cruise for smooth seas. she had been onboard like 5-6 years and told me April or May. So this is officially our 2nd Western cruise; but our first time in the ports of Key West, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman :rotfl2: Wilma had destroyed Cozumel just before our 2005 cruise, and Gamma kept us from stopping at GC

5. If you could have ANY job at Disney, what would it be?

right now -- a pastry chef, like Amanda i'd love to create baked goodies in cuteness of Disney. in retirement -- the Fairy Godmother at the castle breakfast

amy -- thanks for starting these -- this is great!

amanda -- go for the red highlights!! well, what color is your hair? ;) i have done them before and loved it, they are fun and red fades/washed out fairly quickly compared to other colored highlights. for whatever reason.

Val! we have sooo much to teach you! watch out, Disney is addictive! i too am glad you are all better, we need you to focus :cool2:

for my cruise info -- last time i bought a plastic accordion type folder and used the slots per day. then for each day i could have sorted out special door signs, excursion documention (non DCL especially); the girls threw in their receipts to help us track their spending as it's soooo easy to spend spend spend on board, and other anal things i must track.

i have had the 'let's pack!' notion and gotta get my paperwork in order thoughts. must be time...................yea!!!

Val! we have sooo much to teach you! watch out, Disney is addictive! i too am glad you are all better, we need you to focus :cool2:

You got that right! I do have lots to learn. From your post, I have just realized that WDW consists of more than just the amusement park! I thought "Disney World" was just the Magic Kingdom. I didn't realize Epcot, MGM, AK (Animal Kingdom?), etc. were all considered part of WDW. When I went as a child, I think Epcot had just opened a few years before that, and we didn't really know what it was anyway.

I am feeling soooooo much better today. I'm pain-free! :woohoo: Just extremely tired yet, which is strange becuase all I did yesterday was sleep after they gave me all that morphine, and I was still in pain! I was so out of it!

Thanks Molli for the encouragement. :rotfl: I did call & set up an appt. for late Thursday afternoon for some highlights & cut. I've never done it before, so it makes me nervous. But I need to just trust it will all be OK. I am a dark brunette now - though not for long. If it's bad, I'll just wear hats for a while until I can get a new color. :scared:

I've printed out some of my documents already. I have an accordian type file, so I think all will be well. Got to remember to photocopy our id's, and DD's birth cert. sometime too. I think this weekend I'll do a trial run on packing, and just see how much I can really get in our suitcases, and how much they weigh when I'm done. Plus I need to organize our clothing for every day anyway - I plan on using Ziplocks and put each days things in there...then when I pack, I'll mix it up a bit so just in case our luggage gets lost, we'll still have something to wear.

You are NOT the only one to think that way. Even here in FL, with Disney essentially in their backyard, people think that Disney World is the Magic Kingdom. And, they wonder why we go to Disney so often. Well, because there's SO much to do.

I need to start thinking about clothes too. My mom called today to find out if I needed anything made for the family. She's a seamstress and has always made us matching/coordinating things when I want/need them. And, she wanted to know if the girls needed dresses for formal or semi-formal nights. So, I need to think about what I might want, buy the stuff and send it to her to make.

I just heard back from Captain Marvin's. We are now booked on the 8:30 snorkel (2.5 hrs). :thumbsup2 My DD (Jennifer) keeps telling me that she does not want to do this excursion. I know she'll love it. She's just a bit freaked after the Steve Irwin incident. How far from the dock is Captain Marvins located?

Tricia

Ok, I admit it, I'm stalking again!!! :lmao:

Anyway Tricia, Capt Marvin's is a short walk, maybe 5-10 minutes from where the tender boats come in. Maybe all of us can kinda meet at breakfast or something and head out together. Anyway, then we load onto a small bus and it's about a 10-15 minute drive to the boats. Then, we load on the boats and we're on our way. I hope that helps!!!

:lmao:
"I'm a DIS thread stalker every day
I can not seem to stay away"

:rotfl: Well if you are, I must be again also. See? I'm here again, just to see what you all are talking about. OK fine, I'm bored. Stayed in during lunch because it's COLD again out there. Browsed eBay, and came back just to see if there are any new posts. I have a serious problem. :rolleyes1

if you all who are doing the excursion together want me to list a breakfast meet on the DISmeets sign i'm working on, let me know ::yes::

ok i'm back stalking too, should really be doing the GS troop cookie financies. blech!

amanda, i'll see if i can find a pic with me right after the highlights. i should add, i started highlighting my hair a couple years ago when i realized i was no longer a natural highlighted blonde :teeth: i have a GREAT hairdresser who has done my hair for like 8 years and I totally trust her, she suggested adding the red in for some fun in the summer

i DVRed a show on Travel Channel -- cruising do's and don'ts -- Disney ships are featured quite a bit if anyone needs a fix :teeth:
