April 21, 2007 -- Western Magic -- anyone?

Ok, I can't be triplets with you guys, but we just got a Canon Rebel XTi DSLR. We're going to be some crazy photographers during this cruise!!!:rotfl2:

Just because we can't be triplets, doesn't mean you can't be the sister of the twins! :rotfl:

(We had our hearts set on a Canon Rebel until the Nikon D40 came out.)

I am going to have to check out your cameras! We have a Pentax that I hate. DH picked it out and its so slow to take a picture. I miss half of the shots. We have a regular Cannon EOS which I love, but it is so big and bulky to carry around.

You NEED a Nikon Cyndi. :lmao: No joke, I can take shots of my daughter all day long, no matter how much she's running. Focus, click, focus, click, one photo right after the other. It's amazing. I took some the other night while she was swinging on her swingset - they look great!

I never knew what the fuss was about until I got one. Granted, it's a bit heavier and bulky to carry, but worth it for the photos you get! I sent some to my MIL last night, and she said "where'd you get those taken?" Um, my backyard, thank you very much.

Cyndi, I agree with Amanda. If you search for reviews online, you can read all about the Nikon (or any other ones, too) and see not only what others think of them and all the features , but some reveiws even show up close differences in photo quality compared to other brands. There's no doubt we are completely happy with ours. Unfortunately, we now have to "accessorize" with the cards (done already), more indepth books on photography (on their way), and possibly a zoom lens (Ka-ching! $$). At three shots per second, we don't miss a thing! Just keep holding the button, and it just keeps going. The Canon that we returned had unlimited video (our old Olympus had video, too, but only for 30 seconds at a time, and the recovery time between photos was about 5 seconds!), but we soon found out that the videos filled up our hard drive on our computer way too fast. We had it for about two weeks and would have filled up our brand new computer within probably a year (or less!) at the rate we were going. The fact that the Nikon doesn't have video capability was a concern for me at first, but it's not a big deal now, and I don't miss it (plus we do have a video camera anyway). Check it out! You'll be impressed!

Oh, and most importantly, there was a thread on the main board a few weeks ago about someone raving about his D50, and he said that the photographers on DCL use the D50. Just give them your camera to take your picture, and they already know how to use it! Bonus!

OK Val, I just figured it out. I looked at your sig photo, and kept thinking your DH looks familiar. He reminds me of the guy on "Ace of Cakes" on the Food Network, only your DH has a lot more hair! ;)

I guess I'll have to check out Food Network! When is that show on?

It's not a great photo of us, but it's one of very few recent ones with all of us in it. Unfortunately, that one was taken with the Canon that we hated. Our Christmas card photo was also taken with the Canon (the same day, actually, after we took 100+ hoping to have at least one nice one for the cards--I posted it a few pages back when others were posting their family photos). I was embarrased to send out our cards with such poor quality, but we didn't know about the Nikon at that point.

oh i am toooo far behind!!

LOVE Ace of Cakes!

i'm a shutterbug but have a Canon -- i'm an oddball?

identical husbands?

i've GOT to re-read and catch up!

Thanks, I'll have to have my DH check it out. He takes all of the photos because I can't stand the camera!!!

You're not an oddball, I have a Canon DSLR, and we love it!!! We did get an extra lens that we like a lot!!

You're right, Val's DH does look a little like the guy from Ace of Cakes. I've never actually seen the show, but I love to watch Food Network, so I've seen the commericials.

Urggg, I'm STILL priming my dining room!! A couple of years ago, I surprised my DH and painted the dining room. Unfortunately, after the color was up, I hated it!!! Well, I've finally had enough and I'm painting again. But, because the color was somewhat dark, I have to prime it first (and it's taken 2 coats of just primer). I'm getting there, but this seems like it will take FOREVER!!!

You're brave Amy! I wouldn't do it at all. Or if I did, I'd mess it up bad enough that DH would take over & do it for me. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: Actually, he is a really good painter. Much better than I am!

When we first bought our house 9 years ago, there was wallpaper everywhere, so we took it all down, but decided to hire painters to paint the interior of the house. Well, we paid them a bundle of money and they did a horrible job. I thought it was pretty easy, since I just had them paint the whole house off-white. The only differences were the ceilings were to be bright white and the trim & mouldings were to be off-white semi-gloss. Well, they accidently mixed paints, missed spots, etc. We had to have them come back several times, and there are still mistakes in the kitchen that we haven't repainted.

Anyway, after that experience, we always decided that we would paint it ourselves. I'm not a fabulous painter, but I can keep it clean and where it should be. DH would help, but he's at work and has had meetings last night and tonight, so I decided to start myself. We're putting wainscotting (sp???) below the chair rail that he'll have to cut & install, so I'm trying to do the painting part, or at least some of it.

Maybe he'll get his part done quicker too...you can always hope! I've learned around our house, if there's a project I want done, start it myself. DH always jumps in really quickly and helps after that. We'll talk about it, he'll do the "I'll get to it soon" speech, and of course it's months later still unfinished. But let me start a project, I want it done yesterday.

I know what your going through Amy!!

My DH and I redid our whole downstairs, down to the studs so we had new drywall and I was off of work at the time so I got the lovely job of painting. I could not wait till it was done. Now, 6 yrs later it looks like it could use another coat but we are in the proccess of selling so I don't think I'll be redoing it. Our property is now zoned commercial so someone that would be buying it is buying it for the property not the house. So I don't have to keep it in tip top condition.

ok, i think i caught up

i emailed my reservation to myself and it said Late Dining 8:30 -- i requested APL which is 8:00 p.m. dining time so let's hope it's just a vague answer like you all mentioned earlier

i will most for sure make sure i stalk this thread tomorrow so i can have a door sign too :teeth: however i have given up chocolate for lent  but i do love good chocolate.

and Food network -- guess what? i have eaten twice at Mesa Grill ::yes:: LOVE it -- fantastic desserts!

did some shopping today, i think i like board shorts this year.

painting? ugh! we just did major remodel last year and i don't want to see another paint can for many years! lots of priming and paining and ugh!!

Mesa Grill huh? :woohoo: I'd love to go to The Lady & Sons in Georgia. Though from what I hear, you need reservations waaaaay in advance. Most people around here talk just like Paula Deen does, so we'd feel right at home! :rotfl:

Now I see what others miss out on! I refrained from stalking for two hours, and now I'm behind!! It's usually work...stalk...work...stalk...work...stalk, but MIL just took the boys for the afternoon/evening, so I wanted to get done working before they left so I could have my "alone time" ("DIS time" actually!)

Val, here is the site. It's on Tuesdays at 9pm.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_db

Also their "official" business site:

http://www.charmcitycakes.com/

I'd love to have all those supplies at hand to work on cakes!

From what I read on the website, he sounds like my DH--power tools, rock-n-roll, leather coat, sunglasses, perfectionist! That's freaky, too! (Although he would never bake a cake.) I'll have to watch the show now! (Actually, you were probably expecting me to say that I watch the show, too, since you do. Have we really found something that's not the same about us?)

You're brave Amy! I wouldn't do it at all. Or if I did, I'd mess it up bad enough that DH would take over & do it for me. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: Actually, he is a really good painter. Much better than I am!

OMG! Again, my DH is the same way!
I keep remembering that made-for-TV movie about the man living a double life and when he died in a car accident, both of his wives showed up at the hospital. If our DH's are the same person, will we find out when we meet on the cruise? :rotfl:

Maybe he'll get his part done quicker too...you can always hope! I've learned around our house, if there's a project I want done, start it myself. DH always jumps in really quickly and helps after that. We'll talk about it, he'll do the "I'll get to it soon" speech, and of course it's months later still unfinished. But let me start a project, I want it done yesterday.

My DH is such a perfectionist that it takes FOREVER to finish a project! When we were building our house a couple years ago, we painted the entire inside, and it took us THREE MONTHS! Of course, we didn't want any white, so every room in the house is a different color and most have two colors. Our contractor didn't think we would ever finish!

Mesa Grill huh? :woohoo: I'd love to go to The Lady & Sons in Georgia. Though from what I hear, you need reservations waaaaay in advance. Most people around here talk just like Paula Deen does, so we'd feel right at home! :rotfl:

Did anyone see Paula Deen on Oprah about a month or so ago? (I'm way behind on watching my Tivo'ed Oprah...thanks to DIS and my new hobby of thread stalking). She's always funny anyway, but when she was cooking and dropped the small bowl in the mixing bowl, I was :rotfl2: .
