April 2, 2005 Magic-First DCL cruise-anyone going?

Some of them are more geared toward my own planning, but here are some helpful hints:
Day one: Get Tea with Wendy tickets (we're not doing spa or Palo)
Day two: Formal, at sea, check out Deck 7 and 8 aft verandah, get a wake up call-its Mickey and let the girls answer
Day Three: at sea, get food and drinks ready for St. Martin for the next day-we are doing it on our own and I want to make sure I have snacks and water ready to pack in the morning, etc.
Tuesday-St. Martin, Pirates party-make sure girls nap, it will be a late night and immigration is early in the morning for St. Thomas, get drinks and snacks ready for the next day
Day four-St. Thomas-take care of charging tips at Guest Services, lines can get long on Thursday
Day five-semi-formal, at sea, do some packing tonight to make CC day easier, Jackpot Bingo
Day six-CC, pack water for the day, nothing free except during lunch service, let kids play in the play area when they can, tides can mean they may not be able to later, don't forget to leave clothes out for in the morning when packing.

My list has a lot more each day, but it is more reminders about what my "plans" are for each day and would not mean much to anyone else. It just helps me to have somewhere to "put" information that I think I might need or want or use as I come across it.

I have read a few other threads of cruisers finding the water ICY cold in mid march....Is this true for April also?

We went in March 2003 and found the water - esp. at Castaway Cay to be great. I'm really "cold blooded" and hate cold water - but we snorkeled for over an hour and were very comfortable.

I can't believe only 4 weeks away!!!! Time is starting to really pick up now for me. My TA is on a cruise this week so I'm sure once he gets back I'll soon be hearing about my tickets. I am so looking forward to this trip!

I just knew I would be the last, was very surprised I was one of the first! Just hanging out on the other "side" I did not realize that they are allowing jeans in the dining rooms. I had not planned on wearing any, but I did plan on bringing a pair. I'm thinking it would be nice to just throw on a pair and go to dinner if we are running behind sometime. Nice to know it's an option (on certain nights of course). We'll my in laws decided they are coming down next weekend for two weeks from PA. I warned them earlier that they do not want to be around me in the last phase of my packing, but they've never really listened to me anyways LOL . Don't know where they are going to sleep since my luggage is all over the guest room! I am getting concerned about the water temps for our cruise. Hope to get some time in the water relaxing. I don't "swim" really, just like to sit at the water's edge and look out for creatures! Really getting concerned about missing CC. Will take it all in stride though, part of me feels like there is so much going on that day (kids show, farewell from characters, packing, etc) that it is probably a lot less stressful if it was a day at sea instead! Guess that's what I will tell myself if we miss it!

cwf1028 - when we went 2 years ago the weather was... well horrible! We had 40 foot seas and gale force winds the first day out. We missed Key West and had to have a day a sea. We still made it to CC with no problems. We actually did make it back to Key West but missed Grand Caymen and went to Costa Maya instead. We still had a great cruise. The crew went above and beyond to make it a great time.

The water temp was really nice - not to warm - not too cold. I'm really cold blooded and hate cold water - we snorkeled on CC for over an hour with the kids. (my only recommendation would be to do that early - they have had problems with small jelly fish in the past. They do get stirred up by lots of activity in the water - esp. in the snorkle area)

I haven't got my docs yet either. I booked through the vacation club. Did anyone else book through DVC and have their documents yet?

Last cruise got them 13 days prior to sailing. This upcoming cruise is booked with DU--I think they have proven reliable, so not worried.

I'm still waiting. It looks like most of our group must have theirs now. I've only got two more weekends to complete shopping. It seems that the time is starting to pick up a bit quicker now that we're getting closer.

So shall we start setting up a Dis Meet for our first day on board?

Doc's waiting at home yesterday. Already filled out. Mailed to me directly from DCL although the ressie was through DU, just in case anyone else is a first time DUer. Got so psyched I took my tux out of the back of the closet to try it on. Darndest thing--it must have shrunk!!! Yeah, that's it!! Shrunk!

DW is the frugal one, so while I actually do like the idea of putting on a tux for a formal occasion, her response, trying to be encouraging to me despite how my tux somehow didn't fit--still can't imagine how that happened,was trying to figure it out while eating an entire pizza last night--was just "you can wear a suit."

So I'm doing the document dance...and for somereason the whole house sounds like there's someone banging on the floors and whole house is shaking and the windows for some reason rattle...can't wait until that big buffet and Scoops and Pluto's and Palo's and ordering two desserts and three entrees....

Hope the ship won't be listing on its port side when I am in my stateroom...

We're contending with Mt. St. Helens up to her old tricks again. No ash at our house but there may be some when I get to work. I just hope it doesn't interfere with our travel plans!

We're leaving on the 29th to drive to Seattle - then flying down on the 30th to spend a couple of days at WDW!

But no docs here. .....On formal night, are there a lot of men wearing suits? My husband does not own a tux, and was contimplating renting one...but if there are a lot of men that wear suits....I think we may opt for that....

Please let me know something ASAP....THANKS!!!

Tuxes will be worn, but there will be more suits than tuxes. Think I'll just go ahead and order the tux w/o telling DW because she will be wearing a lovely black outfit for formal night and if I am in a suit it will be obvious--to me anyway--that I am NOT in a tux on a tux occasion. And I only get a few of those a this stage of my life. But if your DH doesn't have a hankering to wear a tux, but merely wishes to be appropriate, a nice suit is just fine.

My BIL went with the rented tux. The deciding factor was not having to pack suit and dress shoes. The saving of space & weight in the luggage was worth the rental cost. He will wear it for both formal and semi formal.

My DH & sons will be wearing suits this year. On our last cruise DH wore the tux - but he was in the minority. In fact he said he felt out of place since most were in suits or just slacks, dress shirt & tie - with no jacket.
