April 2, 2005 Magic-First DCL cruise-anyone going?

If I can get my act together..we are, LOL. I officially started. Bought the over the door shoe holder for our toiletries and 2 bottles of Suntan lotion today. Hey..it's a start, LOL! anyone know of a good place to buy some reasonably inexpensive pirate stuff? I have to do some research on that. :-)

Maybe it was the old Seinfeld episode about the puffy shirt, but I do not want to dress like a Pirate. I'm just a fan of wearing tacky, LOUD tropical or hawaiian shirts on vacation, so I am one of the seeming minority that misses Tropicali night and is not thrilled about Pirate night--so yo ho, and I'll wear my shirt from Hilo Hatties, but for those who do want to dress like Pirates, go ahead and have a good time.

Doing St. John/Trunk Bay on our own, and might head over to Maho Beach to experience some take offs and landings directly overhead while on St. Martin, or perhaps Orient Beach on our own, or frankly, its just so easy to hang out at Great Bay beach, and while it is not isolated or anything like that, the sun, sand, warmth and water are great and the easy factor is unmatched (4th time to St. Martin, have spent a week there in addition to cruise visits, I am wary of that island's traffic in the middle of my relaxing, happy vacation).

We have Mickey tropical wear that I got at the end of last Spring before Pirate Night, so I guess that's what we will still wear. We did not book any excursions and plan to do the islands on our own. My little one is unpredictable at times and I would rather not "plan" on anything and just be surprised at what we are able to do. We have several contingency plans for the islands, one of which includes not even getting off the boat. We just this morning took another link off of our paper chain. It sure is getting short!

We do not have costumes but each person has figured out a shirt and black pants combo that suits their taste and idea of what a pirate: might wear. The girls have nice pirate hats from their treasure hunt and the grown-up will wear the bandanas the cruise provides.

I know a store called Party America had eye patches, hats, coins and pirate swords.

Was kinda thinking of making an outfit if I have time. Which there does seam to be very little of.

Yeah I had bought lei's last summer before the party change :( I didn't want to be the only pirate that night :)

Add my family to the list traveling on the 2nd. Myself, my dh and DD9, DS9 ( yes twins) and DD5 will be adding to the fun on our first Disney Cruise. Too many times to mention to Disney Land and World. Maybe 10 or more. Lived in Georgia for 3 yrs and loved it. We drove down a few times a year back then.

But help havent given the trip alot of thought till our travel documents arrived today. What do I need? Besides pirate stuff pirate:

Wow got your docs already? Who did you book through? I think I'll be on pins and needles till they get here. Leaving a bit before the cruise to drive down and have a day extra in cocoa beach. So I'm worried about getting them before I go. Of course I've been assured and told when to call if I haven't seen them :)

Cool Pirate Gear..just not sure if I want to spend that money for one night. Of course when I got to thinking its probably cheaper than making one :)

:crazy2: Ah.... Must confess we book direct thru Disney Cruise line and they have been fabulous. We are going down a day early and staying at animal kingdom. We are new to Minnesota and did not see or hear of a travel agency to our liking locally so we took it upon ourself. I must also confess I wasn't aware of all the great web based travel sights that I have now visited. Of course I am sure there may be drawbacks but so far so good. I must say we have wanted to cruise Disney for a number of years but for some reason or another it didn't work out. Namely waiting for the youngest not to be terrified of characters.....HA HA makes it a bit easier to spend the money without thinking of further shrink bills for her.

Well truthfully if you already got your docs from DCL that looks good for the rest of us :) I think DCL was having printing problems earlier in the year and folks were getting there docs way to close to cruise time .

Going to start watching the mailbox now :cool1:

Going to drive from here to Cocoa in a two day run so I have a day to sleep in, Laze on the beach and begin my vacation. Got a week at WDW after the cruise with my folks. Beginning to wonder if I shouldn't have done the cruise after. But then again...I'll be relaxed enough to deal with them...I hope... :earboy2:

Hi and welcome! :wave2: The shrink comment is cute. I work with a lady that has 4 kids 2 in college and 2 in high school and she says she has always told her kids "the answer is no and if that's not the right answer, then I will pay for your therapy later" whenever her kids couldn't understand why she would not let them do something their friends could do. I may use that on my kids when they get older. As far as preparation, I would definantly spend some time on these boards over the next week and get a packing list together. Also, if you are not in a suite or booked the REAS and Palo and the Spa are something you are interested in, you might want to get a game plan together for when you board. Lastly, look at the excursions and get any that you are interested in booked. Other than that, get ready for some fun (I say all of this as if I have been on a Disney cruise before!)

So, how many days is it until we go? I've go the shakes from not knowing. Is it 5 weeks from tomorrow, so 36 days? Watched that countdown from October 2003 and then they pull it out from under me. Devils, if you ask me. Probably Carnival employees responsible for whatever security issues caused the countdown codes to be banished...

Just bought my obnoxious lime green DIS t-shirt.

Any times set for an Oceaneer's Lab DIS Kid's meet? If DS can make a friend who also wants to play a lot of basketball on deck 10 and Playstation on the Big Screen in the lab at night, he'll be in heaven...it'll be his 4th DCL cruise, 2nd this year, so he is pretty savvy about the ship--he shut down the Lab the last night on the Wonder last month, came into the stateroom at about 12:15 a.m., DW and I were asleep!! But he'd appreciate a partner for some of these activities, along with the Goofy pool in the daytime.

This will be our first family cruise :grouphug: ....11 of us all together. My hubby and I, our 3 daughters 15, 13, and 5, mom and dad, step brother and his family....We are ALL VERY EXCITED.

I do have an update from our travel agent and I confirmed this with the cruise line. At the beginning of booking this cruise I was told that the soda, and drinks by the pool were NOT included.....Since then, I have been told that now all drinks, BUT alcoholic drinks are included in the cruise....

The most recent addition to the list is Heathercat and family. Welcome :wave2:

Welcome to the newcomers to the list!

I plan to go shopping tomorrow for new clothes for the kids. Had my DS11 try on everything in his closet practically to see what still fits. I just need to get him something to wear for formal night. His blazer is just a tad too small but I think I may get by with that since he'll probably only wear it for the picture anyway. Now my daughter is another story. She's outgrown everything from last summer so I need major shopping for her. Do you think it will be mainly short weather while we are cruising or should I think more capris for then?

If any of the kids would like to exchange emails before the cruise, pm me and I'll send you my kid's email address. My kids are Nathan (DS11 - 5th grade) and Kaitlyn (DS12 - 7th grade).

Nena

I miss my countdown clock! :confused3

Welcome Mnswimfamily! It seems like we have kids close to the same age. My DS is 8 1/2 and my DD will be turning 5 in April and I'm debating if I should put her in the 3-4 age cat. or 5-7. I'm not sure which will be best for her.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on the cruise. Since I'm a newbie at all this..how does it work? Do we set something up to meet at a certain time and place? :-)

Oh, and I can't believe you got your Docs already. I have to put all my energy these next few weeks on the cruise. I too will try on old clothes on the kids and see what still fits and then start shopping ASAP for them. I was hoping to lose weight before the cruise but that's not really working out as planned :confused3 ...guess it's time to go shopping for me as well!

Welcome to all the new additions! :wave2:

I threw out a suitcase last night and started to toss a few things into it. I'm still trying to find a new swim suit for the cruise. Ugh I had shopping for them! I ordered a really cute one from Overstock and got it yesterday. The top is o.k. but the bottoms...yikes! The one I really wanted is backordered from Newport News and won't be shipped until 3/31 so that's not going to work. So I ordered another one today. I guess if all else fails I'll have to make a trip to the local Walmart and see what I can find....

33 days and counting

I was reading some of the posts and came across one that talked about a Pirate Party on the deck....What is this and when is it? Are there other theme parties that we should be aware of? :confused3 :dancer: :jester:

Heather,

The Pirate party is usually on Tuesday night which is the same night as the pirate themed dinner menu. From what I have been reading, it sounds great. The party is on deck 9 and includes a mock battle between pirates and Mickey and there are even fireworks. I think it also has a dessert buffet.
