April 19, 2008 - Western - VERY Early Roll Call - Anyone??!!

Hi all... Looking forward to meeting everyone. I just can't wait until April. Has anyone been in Home Depot lately? I read somewhere on the board that they did away with their mousehead paint chips...is that true? Probably so many people "borrowing" them as DIS board Identifiers!

Anyone have an onboard DIS meet planned yet? Our last cruise we had one in the Promenade Lounge @ 2pm. If nothing has been started, does this sound good to everyone? I made lime green foam mickey head pins for our last meet that got left at home...I think I have 100 or so of them...I could make more...we could write our screen names and real names on them for the cruise..it is always fun to ID someone on board with a lime green head. Does anyone know our head count as of yet from our spread sheet? I haven't looked at it in a while...any mathematicians or accountants out there?

JOAN AND ANTY: I PMed you both regarding dinner both pre-cruise and during cruise.

JOAN: 3rd grade is a MAJOR transition year...a lot more independence and responsibility...We teachers consider the line between 2nd and 3rd very definative. It is also the year when children "stop" learning to read and being reading to learn.

OSUBUCKLY: about sharing tables during cruise. Not that we wouldn't want to share a table with you, but being on your honeymoon and all, I don't think our families are too compatible at this time...we really need table mates with children...for our sanity...In March, we lucked out ..we sat with a family with a 6 yr old girl...and our dd was 6 too...a match made in heaven..I think it saved both families a lot of heartache AND headache...and it really helped ease our daughter into the clubs, having a familiar face to look for or go with..perhaps someone else with similar lifestyles may chime in...actually, I believe you can call and talk to someone in reservations and request to sit with couples as opposed to families with small children..if you so desire...you may even be able to request honeymoon couples....but then again if that happened.. since you all will be on your honeymoon, maybe your table will be empty each night...:rolleyes1

So what has been the verdict with flights? Who is still holding out for better fares? Anybody have any luck with something less than 250?

Catch ya all later.
Hope some of you got to enjoy a columbus day holiday! It is beautiful here in NY! I can't believe the weather has been like this! Scary..I wonder what it all means..bad winter? Mild winter? Depleated Ozone?

Michelle

We are thinking of making flying arrangements with DCL. We were quoted a price out of JFK for $455 rt per person and that should include the transfers to the port and back. So minus out the $69 that should be about $386 pp.
Does anybody have any experience with the flights assigned from DCL? I know it may include a stop.

wdhinn89: we used DCL air this past March. Our main reason for doing so was that we were traveling during the winter months and did not want to have to worry about weather and cancellations...if you book with DCL and the flight they arrange gets cancelled, they work with you in regards to another flight or with cancellation. If you do your own air, they don't care so to speak. We paid close to 500 a person. We flew on USAIR, whom we happen to hate and had horrible layovers and we were at the mercy of their scheduling...and they only do same day as your cruise air...unless you want to pay I think it was about 50 per person to go out on a different date.

Now for our trip in April, since weather wasn't going to be a factor we wanted more control over the whole thing...time, money, carrier, layovers etc. We got flights the day before...(we won't travel on cruise day again..too much stress)...for 250 a person on an airline we trust. We are also renting a car for the day...which I believe ends up being cheaper than the magical express if bought outright.

Out of JFK, you have a chance to fly non-stop, but I wouldn't count on it. DCL only works with certain airlines...USAIR, Northwest and a couple others..not sure which, but you can find out who they do business with and determine your chances for a layover that way.

Hope this helps.
You can tell I have the day off...two posts in one day...

We have the late seating too. My dds would love to make some friends right away, if any one else has early teen girls. Will they let you choose who you sit with?

I don't think DCL will take out the price of the transfers. You will pay $455.00 even if you don't use the transfers. Let me know if you find out otherwise.

If you pretend you are booking with air on their website, it states transfers are included when you purchase airfare through DCL. We already booked the transfers in May when we booked the cruise so hopefully they would credit it towards the airfare

Thanks for your reply. As of now we are just reserving the flight with DCL until Southwest comes out. My TA said for an extra $50pp would ensure a non-stop flight. I hope all the info she is giving us is right. The travel agent I have used in the past, whom I loved left and I don't really know this person. The price she quoted us was for leaving on the 18th. They are already booking the Orlando Hyatt for us on the 18th for $185 a night and the port transfers for $69 pp. I agree on flying the same day of the cruise. To stressfull.

I really got myself in a bind by not booking my flight in May and waiting for Jetblue. Now Jetblue is $700 rt out of JFK and that is insane so I am scrambling to get a decent airfare. DCL uses Delta out of JFK which we have flown many times before and like I just don't know what kind of layovers we are going to have. How long was yours? Or if the flight would be really early in the morning. We could fly Air Tran out of LGA for a little less than DCL also but it would definitely have 1 layover but then I would at least have control over the lenght of the layover.

I'M SO CONFUSED!!! :headache: PLEASE COME THRU SOUTHWEST! ::scared:

I have not gotten airfare yet. Holding out for cheaper prices. I have faith. :wizard:

Hello everbody.
Hearing all this I´m so happy my flights are all set.I didn´t think that it is so complicated for all of you.
Michelle-I love the idea of a dismeet,we had them on both of our prior cruises.
And 2 o´clock in the Promenade Lounge sounds perfect.
Last time we did it at 3 at the goofy pool and it turn out to be so hectic that only half of the groupwas able to attend.
And I love the idea with the lime green heads.Very cute.
We can´t wait to meet you all, less than 200 days and only 32 days untill we go to Disneyland Paris.
Have a great week and take care

The problem with airfare in our area is that our whole state has the same week off from school for vacation. With everyone heading out of town at once the price for our airfare goes though the roof!:scared1:

I have had meets at the Goofy pool and it is always hectic. Promenade sounds good to me too!

Have a wonderful time in Disneyland Paris. I would love to see some pictures.

I booked airtran - you know they have a nonstop out of White Plains for $165/pp leaving the 17th, that's not bad. We got the nonstop out of Newburgh, NY, leaving the 17th for $159. We have a connection on the way home but vacations over so I'm not concerned. What's up with Jet Blue - are they out of their minds!

2 o´clock in the Promenade Lounge sounds Great! ;) What day?

Wdhinn89,
Who did you go though to book the Hyatt?
That's one of the places we were thinking about, but I've only been able to find prices a lot higher.

Jeff

PS, I one of us waiting/hoping for southwest to come through...

You can book the Hyatt through DCL for $189.00 per night check with them.

Yes, you can book through DCL. It is $185 a night. You leave your lugage in the hallway in the morning and DCL picks it up. They also have a rep meet everyone in the lobby to take you to the bus to the port

Thanks, but pardon me, I'm new at this.
I've always booked stuff on my own.

So, get a number for DCL on www.disneycruiseline.com???
and they are the ones that can help me?
or is the number listed someplace else?

(sorry for the silly questions)

Jeff

I am leaving tomorrow for a Western Caribbean cruise. Unfortunately it is not on DCL. Luckily the Magic is on an eastern cruise next week because I am afraid if I saw it I would want to switch cruise lines and jump ship.
I am going to do an excursion in Grand Cayman that includes turtle farm, tour of island and a visit to stingrays. I have left plans open for Cozumel.
I am hoping that there are no tropical storms forming and heading our way. That is the only think that concerns me when sailing this time of year.

I better go start packing!

Have a wonderful and safe cruise.
Please, please post what you did and think about Cozumel after you get back.
We are having a hard time figuring out what we would like to do,every input is appreciated.
Have fun
