Are we talking about an iron for clothes or a flat iron

A flat iron for hair. I didn't even think that the lady on the phone would think I meant a clothes iron. I guess that means I can bring mine, right?

You'll see me wrinkled. LOL! I don't iron at home let alone on vacation.

Me either!

OMG--DD might have a cow if she can't bring her flatiron! :scared1: LOL!

OK, so let me get this straight--I CAN bring water as long as it's in our carry-ons. Right now I need to have everything spelled out for me because the next week and a half until I leave is packed with way to many things to do and I'm lucky I can think straight! (I leave on the 3rd). :cheer2:

Actually, it's the 16yo who I call the surly one. She's a great kid, but not entirely happy about being on a "Disney" cruise. She's planning on vegging by the pool the whole week. Yeah, right...after the first day, I'm sure I'll never see her. She makes friends quickly and likes to be independent. Lord help me, she just got her license yesterday! :drive:

My 14yo DS is looking forward to the trip. Are there any 14/15 yo boys going? He doesn't e-mail much, but I think he would if someone contacted him. (He can be shy and wouldn't initiate something like that). He is a freshman in HS. He's a good kid and likes to get involved in anything. I also expect to "lose" him to the Teen Club! LOL!

I have signed up both teens for some things at CC. I think it was para-sailing and bannana boat. They both said they'd like to try wave-runners. Do they have that at CC?

BTW, our family consists of Diana (16--will be 17 2 weeks after the cruise), Scott (14--almost 15), and Kristen (10). She already knows a couple of kids, since she goes to school with them. DH's name is Sal and is very gregarious--he'll talk to anyone!

I'm sure in the next week I'll have a million more questions. Can't wait to see everyone!!:wave2:

cnb, please ask tons of questions! I am sure all of us need answers to the same questions you will ask.
Your so lucky you can leave on the 3rd!

Hi everyone,

50 degrees in Massachusetts and it feels great. Friday we are expecting a wintering mix and with that said the cruise can not come soon enough.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy the UV protection shirt for him? He has great olive skin and browns beautifully with SPF 50 but I would rather be safe than sorry. I have seen children as well as adults get fried from the sun. It is so sad. Believe me I love the sun and to tan but that is not the way to do it.

Kathy

I got the UV shirts for the whole family at Lands End, they're the SPF 50 ones - if you have a Sears near you that sells Lands End, you can order them online from their computer and get free shipping to your house. It only takes 2-3 days like that.

We're getting that same wintry mix - I'm so sick of winter!!!

I had read in a few places about movies showing while we are on board. It is to bad that they are not just listed on the web site but you have to call. I thought I would save a few phone calls. Here are the movies that will be playing.

College Road Trip
Dan in Real Life
Enchanted
Pirates 2
National Tresure 2
Ratatoule (sp)
Step Up ? I may have missed more to this title
Game Plan
Wild Hogs
Under Dog

Too funny! I just called to ask about the movies too. And I just bought Enchanted on DVD!

Gina - Mickey emailed Daniel tonight before he went to bed :)

Hi everyone,

Are any of the teens signed up for teen events on Castaway Cay? Just in case by some miracle my 14 yr old decides to leave my side I would hate for him to want to join the group on CC and find that is completely booked. I would rather book it and cancel it if the need be.

Finally I am feeling excited about the cruise and started packing. I did buy my DS (7) goggles and a snorkel so when we visit the islands and CC I do not need to rent them for him. I think it is the best money I spent so far.

I promise not to put a toy gun in my carry on luggage this time. Now that I look back on that event, the reactions of the security personnel were priceless. They almost seemed disappointed when they removed a red wooden toy gun.

I am still looking for a family picture to post.

Kathy

Hey there!
We are supposed to have snow flurries tomorrow but then we will get more seasonal - which means low 40's - LOL
Will is signed up for the Castaway Cay Wild Side - or whatever that is.
The rest of us signed up for the getaway thing - with the Sting ray adventure, snorkels, floats, bikes... it just seemed an economical way to do it. I didn't want to deal with snorkel gear.

As for Sun shirts - I got the boys at amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CAPGUC

I typically buy them size men's medium - but I got large since they run tight. Jake's is tight because he has some extra padding in the middle - built like his mom, poor thing... :rolleyes1
Will looks awesome in his - he thinks he is hot stuff :)
They have X small and small on this site.
I looked around a lot and these were about the cheapest in men's sizes.
ReefGear also has sales, so you might be able to find something there. I lucked out with Xlarge sizes for Ed and I.

Thanks a ton - that was on my list to call about - check that one off!

Are we talking about an iron for clothes or a flat iron to straighten hair? Irons for clothes aren't allowed due to the fire hazard. While yours may have the automatic shut-off switch, many of the older travel ones do not. It is something that is easily provided by Disney in the laundry rooms or you can send them out for pressing.

A curling iron isn't exactly something they can supply to be used by the masses.

You'll see me wrinkled. LOL! I don't iron at home let alone on vacation.

Deb

As I told my dh - I never promised to love, honor and iron :rolleyes1

Well everyone, we are off to Miami in a few hours ... have to leave the house at 3:45am!! OMG ... a 6am flight from LaGuardia into Ft. Lauderdale ... but we'll be on the beach by 10:30 so I guess I won't complain!!

We'll be back Sunday night so everyone have a great weekend!! If anyone would like to be in charge of any updates, please feel free ... I simply cut and paste into a new message from the last updated list. I have NOT yet made any of the changes since posting the latest list so if someone wants to do them, please feel free.

Talk to you all soon!!

On the French side of St. Martin the currency is officially the Euro, since it is owned by France. On the Dutch side, where we dock (St. Maarten) the currency is the guilder and florin of the Netherlands Antilles. However, you can use US dollars just about everywhere.

St. Thomas, of course, is US territory, so dollars go all the way there.

One hint -- if you use a credit card you get the international banking exchange rate, which is better than an in-person exchange rate, so I do as much international purchasing as possible with a credit card. However, some smaller establishments may not take them, so having some cash would be a good idea.

cnb – please tell Diana that we have a 16-year-old niece who will be 17 only two DAYS after the cruise ends, so they can both commiserate about having to be called 16-year-olds the whole time! Our other 16-year-old niece will be 17 in mid-May, but my 16-year-old DS is only 16 ½.

For Scott, tell him that my DS turned 15 in December and is VERY SOCIAL. (Just ask his teachers!) The 14-year-old niece (turning 14 the day we board) is a doll and also very outgoing.

Both of my DSs – and their cousins -- want all the other teens to know that they love Disney and are looking forward to all the teen activities. They know they won’t be treated like babies just because it is Disney. In fact, they’ve looked over some navigators and are excited about all of the fun things. :cool1:

Re: Ironing – In our house we refer to the dryer as the “rotary iron.” It's about the only iron we use! :rotfl:

They have a coffee lounge just for adults. It is usually slightly on the dark side, but it is always non-crowded. I usually go in there for internet access.

Deb

Well - now I am going back and re-reading posts! WAAAAY too obsessed..
We decided not to bring the laptop - I read there are terminals at the coffee lounge and somewhere else - do they get busy? Is it worth using them?

Also - are you able to download camera memory cards at Shutters? I am not in the mood to buy another memory card right now... but if we don't have a laptop...

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to reply and write last night, but really sometimes I don't know where to start, so here it is:

I was going to answer the question about currency, but it's already answered.

Kathleen -- thanks for the movie list -- figures we just rented Enchanted for the kids, but it's okay because they'd definitely watch it again and probably would really love College Road Trip and never finished Ratatioulle (sp?) and love Game Day and Under Dog (I liked them too). My husband and I actually just watched Dan In Real Life this week too. It's weird.

I would love to go walking. As you can see, I'm typically up late, so I don't know if I can get up!!! Although, I just received two dresses online that I have to return because I don't like the way they look (can't decide if it's me or the dresses, but need to go to a real store I think). Skuba2 -- I'm with you -- don't iron at home, so why would I iron on vacation? About the flat iron curling iron, I think I'll need to check into that, because I don't use it often, but thought I might bring it. Thanks for the info about putting the curling irons in the carryon.

I don't know, as of right now, I have so much laundry (and no dresses as previously mentioned), so packing seems like such a drag right now. My excitement has worn off a little bit because of the packing, and the fact that my little one is sick now and so many viruses going around my kids' school. Really trying not to think about it but I have to start doing a little everyday or I'm going to be tired before I get there! (At least we are taking the train and the day at All Star Music beforehand).

My kids and I (and my husband!) are white as can be -- we will just use tons of sunscreen and the kids have coverups. Always say I'm going to get those SPF tops, but never do. Have a hard time buying something when they already have it and they are only going to outgrow it anyway!

Disney Mom -- I will try to make the updates tomorrow night.

Take care everyone.

SEE YOU SOON:laundy:

Christine is signed up for the teen wild side. Any other teens interested? It sounds like they go romping off on their own and do whatever the group wants to do.

Good point on the shirts - they fit tight so order a size larger. I got DH a boys Husky XL because it was $19.50 compared to the Mens at $32.50! And I even bought myself a Boys Husky XL since I can't find womens - I loved the colors and it was again cheaper than buying a womens - just an FYI - the chest size on that is 41 inches :)

Yeah, I really need to start packing - I was planning on it yesterday but got sidetracked by internet stuff and then got a call to come pick up DD early who was having a bad morning at preschool. I just want to put stuff aside so I can figure out in my mind what I really need, and feel like I'm getting somewhere. I still need to go shopping for stuff like nightlights and creams and stuff.
I highly recommend the Neutrogena sunscreen - hubby pretty much glows in the dark but never gets burned!

I may consider walking but right now the thought of sleeping past 7:00 really thrills me!!! :yay:

I feel so bad for you guys with temps in the 40s and 50s. Today is suppose to be between 70 and 75. Don't worry in two weeks you'll be warm.

Mslex, on the main board asked about how early she/he should pack and had concerns about wrinkles in her/his clothes so I thought I would pass along her/his concern(hope you don't mind)and have you guys give her/him some hints for her/his clothes.

Did anyone find out for sure if we could bring a flat iron. If I can't bring one I am going to be a walking Q-tip complete with some scary frizz. Surely the lady I spoke to thought I meant a clothes iron. Disney wouldn't be so cruel as to deny a princess her hair torture equipment.:rotfl:

Carolyn,

My 14 DS is coming who has similiar feelings about the "Disney" cruise. So I would be happy to find him someone to get lost with. I have a feeling that the one who is miserable now will have the best time. We also have agreed that if he wants to sit in the cabin for the entire trip he can do so because he is not going to ruin my week. But I have feeling with in the first 24 hrs I will not see him till we depart the ship 7 days later.

I really enjoy reading the boards and getting the details.

I brought my flat iron on board last year and never thought about it. So it will be on board this trip. For those of you who were not sure if it was for your hair or you clothes let me clarify- A flat iron is a miracle tool for your hair if it is unruly like mine. With the wind and humidity on deck not even the flat iron can perform its usual miracles.

Thanks for the information on purchasing the UVB shirts for my 7yr old DS.

Still no documents and starting to wonder. Called Disney and they said that I was suppose to have received them on Monday and that if they don't show up in a week or two don't worry! Maybe I am being paranoid but with all the identity theft I am getting anxious about where my mail is.

On a separate topic. I asked Disney how I should pack my curling irons. She said I had to have them in my carry on and she said I wouldn't be allowed to carry my flat iron. What is the difference in the two? I won't bring the flat iron because they said not to but I can't help but wonder if one is more dangerous than the other?

Well, shut my mouth and call me a tater tot! As I was writing about not getting our documents they arrived!

I'll check back in a bit, have to read my stuff!

Glad to hear that you got your documents since we had ours last week.

I would think that no flat irons refers to irons for clothes. I am sticking the curling iron in luggage. We actually check our bathroom bag and usually put it in there, but we have never done a Disney cruise so we will see what happens with that.

A note about sunburns -- The UV shirts will protect your backs, but don't forget to slather on the sunscreen on the backs of your legs. My DSis-IL had quite the fun honeymoon in Hawaii after forgetting about the backs of her legs!
