Appropriate age for Star Wars

The only thing I can think of that might be bad for young children is the jabba the hutt
Scene. That’s in return of the Jedi.

I don't remember for my oldest, but my youngest were probably closer to 3 when they starting watching the original trilogy. As the new ones have come out, I have NOT taken them to see it in the theater (too long and loud, scary, dark), but I have let them watch them at home. They are youngest are 7 now, and we are planning on the whole family going to see Episode IX.

I saw A New Hope when it first came out in the theatre. I was a few months shy of my 3rd birthday. No joke. It was the first movie I saw in a movie theatre.

Now I have a 4-year-old and I can't remember when he first saw bits and pieces of the Star Wars franchise. I can't say he's seen an entire movie, as he can't sit still for one, but we've had them on while he's around and he occasionally hangs out long enough to get the gist. He certainly knows Darth Vader, Han Solo, Yoda, stormtroopers, etc...

(Questionable parent that I am, he's also seen a good portion of the Harry Potter movies as well...)

Having a husband who has always loved the SW movies our kids were introduced to the series as preschoolers. Our boys can tell you all about the characters, each of the trilogies, and the multiple cartoon series.

I definitely watched them from that age (born in 78!). And, we have let our kids watch them from early on. I don't see any problems with it.

What about the Jurassic Park movies? DD took her son to see Jurassic World when he was four. He loves dinosaurs and had watched dinosaur movies at home, so DD thought he would be fine and was insulted when a couple of women sitting in back of them started gossiping about how he was too little to be there. He lasted about five mins before DD took him out and they watched a kids' movie while the rest of our group watched the dinosaurs eat people. She's saving the Harry Potter movies to watch as he reads the books.

You know your kids best but there really isn't anything in the original trilogy I would consider inappropriate for a kid. It's as intense as most Disney animated features (scariest movie I ever saw and continues to bother me as an adult is Snow White).

My kids started watching them basically when they were born. They all love Star Wars as much as I do.
