Anyone have experience with appendicitis? DS woke me earlier with horrible pain to the right on his bellybutton. It was also tender when I toched there. Just as I'm puting clothes on to take him to the ER it goes away. He didn't know I was going to take him.

He fell back to sleep in my bed.....now I'm AWAKE! The one day I didn't have to be up before 6am.

So my question is whether or not this pain would just suddenly go away if it WAS his appendix? He didn't have a fever or anything alse either. He was just clammy w/the cold sweats.

I'd have him checked. If it's something else, at least your mind will be at ease. If it's his appendix, you don't want it to let go. That can be very serious.

Let us know what happens and good luck!

Have him checked out. This happened to me several times as a teenager. Then I go away to college (about 4 hours from home) at 17 and sure enough got very, very ill one night. Had to have an emergency appendectomy. Drs couldn't wait for my parents to get to me, said it was going to burst, they had to get parent's permission using a "witness" over the phone.

Do hope he feels better, missyc, but as above, I would say if he has any signs again, best to get it checked, appendicitis is not to be fooled with.

When my brother had appendicitis, he ran a low fever and vomited for several hours. The vomiting suddenly stopped and he seemed better except for his stomach being sore. My parents didn't take him to the hospital until later. We went to a soccor game and my aunt (who was an RN) told my folks she thought he could have appendicitis. They took him to the hospital and an hour later he was in surgery. I'd have him checked just to be sure.

Definitely have it checked. My pain was in the same area but went away some. I waited too long and mine ruptured days before I went to the er. I could have easily died. I ended up with major surgery and a 9 day hospital stay. If you find it early it's not the major surgery. I had mine checked two days before surgery and the pa said it could be appendicitis but I didn't have rebound pain. She was right but I wish I had gone on to the er then.

I have way too much experience with this one lately!

DH had his appendix removed last weekend! He had been doing fine, woke up Sunday morning with some back pain, then he was having stomach pain, vomiting, he was never really running a fever though. He had emergency surgery later that evening and is back home and doing fine now. They did do a CT scan to make sure that's what it was - it clearly was, he was close to rupture!

I'd get your DS checked just to be on the safe side!

Good luck! Hope he's feeling better and you get some sleep :D

I would definately get this checked out. My DS was 11 when he had pains in the same area. The doctor did a blood test and it came back normal so he thought it was a muscle pull. The pain went away. A couple of weeks later DS woke up with his abdomen a little distended and pain. He never ran a fever and the pain was not excruciating. At the doctor's office the doctor pushed DS's right leg up into a bending position which really hurt him so the doctor sent us to the hospital where we met with the surgeon. She said you don't have to run a fever or have extreme pain to have appendicitis and the pain can come and go. 2 hours later DS was minus one inflamed appendix. With the laparoscopic surgery it was quick and he was out of the hospital by noon the next day. It is worth having it checked out.

Take him to the ER to have him checked. I hope he is alright. Please keep us posted?

I called the Dr Saturday morning and she did want to see David. She asked him some questions and poked around, had him jump up and down, etc. and decided that she doesn't think it's his apendix, especially since he was able to hop up and down. I'm not convinced though. He had a little bit of pain in the same spot again this morning (Sunday), but it wasn't nearly as bad as the morning before. I will say that my son is a bit of a hypoconriac (sp?) too!! :p He's had lots of tests for unexplainable abdominal pain and has been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (along with and irritated by anxiety) since they found nothing else wrong. Maybe that's why his ped is saying it was gas pains.
I'll definately take him back if it happens again.
He spent Saturday afternoon playing football. That was his biggest concern Sat. morning. He even took his uniform to the Dr and changed in the parking lot after she gave him the ok to play!!

thanks for all the info!!

I don't know if this will help. But my Kelsea had a lot of unexplained stomach pain. We went to see the doctor and he prescribed yogurt, a little bran, every day and Tums when needed.

It worked really well.
