I’m here now and there was a really bad lightning storm. We had the lights flicker at the Contemporary but didn’t lose power. I assume that’s what it was.

My guess is weather related. I could hear thunder in that direction a while ago. So outdoor attractions could be closed due to lightning and there could have been a lightning strike on property somewhere.

It chased us from the pool around 4. I noticed the lights flicker when I was getting ready for dinner before the party.

We got caught in the pop-up thunderstorm leaving DHS. By the time we got to the car (completely soaked), everything was closed. I've never seen everything go down like that before.

It's a short trip for us, so we're really hoping everything opens back up tonight.

We’re in EPCOT - almost every ride is down. Same with HS.

I am a former CM and I remember when something like this happened, although luckily it was just limited to Hollywood Studios where I was working. I was in the employee cafeteria on the phone with my supervisor (I was finishing lunch and they were about to give me my new assignment) when the power flickered off for maybe two or three seconds. I thought it was just the cafeteria but my supervisor across the park said it happened over there too. I left the backstage area and a little while later ran into a guest who asked if I knew if Tower of Terror was back up. I told them I wasn't aware it was down and they told me that apparently every building had an outage and it was enough to shut down every ride in the park. Later I remember standing in front of the wait times board as another CM was one multiple radios and updating the board as each individual attraction went back up. He was like an 80s Wall Street stockbroker as he shouted out information. Tough day but luckily everything was able to get back up and running fairly quickly, and surprisingly the guests I talked to were pretty cool about it. Stuff just happens, unfortunately, even at Disney.

And in a similar story, I also worked at Universal Studios. There was a big construction project happening and someone did something to knock out the power right as the park was opening in the morning for the resort guest's extra hour. They had to open the gates and then tell everyone that none of the rides were working! I worked at the front of the park and luckily a bunch of us scrapped together some stuff like hula hoops and bubbles and kind of turned that main street into a street party. It at least kept the younger kids distracted for a bit! People were a little more annoyed at that instance since they did pay extra for this perk that they now couldn't use buy luckily the attractions did eventually get up and running pretty quickly.

It's typical for outdoor attractions to close. This time it affected indoor attractions too.

This got me thinking about ToT when the power went out if a car was mid ride...what happens...it just stops on a dime where it is and the lights go out? That really WOULD be some real Tower of Terror feeling! I'd be interested to know that rides evac procedure in a situation like that.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there were a backup generator that would return the car to the bottom, slowly and safely, in that case. The guests wouldn’t get the full ride experience but wouldn’t be stuck either. Maybe a CM or former CM will come tell us.

Yup, I was at Epcot tonight and the only ride that was open was Gran Fiesta Tour. MASSIVE lines for every festival booth. Like, longer than a typical friday night. The congestion in World Showcase was horrendous and it didn't help that people were lining up for the Joey Fatone concert which made getting through that part of the park chaotic. I walked past Connections and saw the lights flicker on and off for a few seconds right after lightning struck the area.

The line to get through the guard booth was backed up into the street because they had to reboot the Magic band scanner that raises the gate. Then once we got inside I went to the desk because we still hadn’t gotten a room assignment. Something happened with my reservation and they couldn’t assign me a room so they had to cancel my reservation and rebook it manually to attach it to a room. They were super apologetic and said that the power went out at Beach Club and the generator didn’t kick on. They gave us a “no strings attached” voucher for being so patient. Then we walked over to Epcot and with all the rides closed it was wall to wall people. We did one lap of world showcase and left. We’ll go back today.

It absolutely is not typical for 40+ attractions across all four theme parks to go down because of regular inclement FL weather or WDW would have gone out of business in the 70s bc the parks would be essentially non functioning every day in the afternoons during hurricane season. What are you basing these definitive statements on, vibes?

Yep! By the time I walked over everything was normal. I didn’t end up doing any rides besides Pirates just bc I was busy enough between Beak & Barrel, the entertainment and characters.

Midnight Hocus Pocus show was messed up and they sadly did the “B” mode version but that’s really not weather related as I’ve seen that happen on nights w no weather based outages.
