So... I was curious about what all we can do in the apartments. I get migraines sometimes, so I was thinking about building a simple canopy over my bed, that way I just close the canopy curtains without disturbing my roommate. Would I be allowed to drill into the ceiling or walls? And what about hanging pictures? I'm assuming that any holes we make we'll have to patch up before we move out.

From what I have read/heard from past CPs... you are only allowed 1 hole in the wall to hang a bulliten board. Meaning no posters, pictures ect. I would say they definatly wouldn't want you to make a canopy by drilling holes in the walls/ceiling. And because of the apartment inspections, i don't think you could get away with patching them up at the end of your program. You're also not allowed to tape anything to walls. (but people do, and take them down for inspections. However some inspections are random, so not sure i would recomend that either. )

;_; whaaaaaat? That's sad. I'll have to figure that out then. Maybe I'll just build a self standing canopy. Shouldn't be too hard.

I can understand a skateboard. They don't want you to have any other modes of transportation except car and bus. Safer that way, I guess. However, a power drill? That shouldn't be too much of a problem if I'm not wrecking the walls or making a huge mess that I don't clean up after. Any work I do that might leave an excessive amount of shavings I'd do outside and clean it up when I'm done.

Idk. They may see a power drill as a weapon. TBH i wouldn't want to be sleeping in the same room as a stranger with a power drill.....

Price management will seriously kill you if you drilled into their walls :lmao: and you most likely would get terminated for having a power tool.

Everyones room was white on white on white on white because they're so strict about hanging stuff up. A friend got written up for hanging darker curtains.

Nope, you cant really do anything but eat and sleep there honestly. I got written up for hanging wet swim shorts on the first floor balcony railing. I'm not going to rant about price management right now, thats a whole separate thread that might show up here sometime lol.

What about those decals you can remove from the wall?

Seriously? You can't hang darker curtains? Am I gonna have to set up a temp bed in the closet when I have a migrane? That's insane! Is it such a problem to personalize our dorms? We're renting it, for crying out loud. Usually, when you rent an apartment, you're allowed to make it "home".

ii don't even think you're allowed to use those stick on peel off hook thingys (i think scotch tape makes them) & i didn't know about curtains, i did know that you can't have things in your windows that could be seen from the outside, and you can't have towels/bathing suits hanging on the balcony if you have a balcony..

Aww. Hm... what about just a regular screw driver? I can do all the messy work and then just ship the pieces and put it together or something... and they shouldn't have a problem if I have curtains around my bed >.> can't see it from the window (probably) and it wouldn't get in the way.

if its something you are really considering, you should call and ask. They are very particular with the way they want things, sadly.

True >.> I kind of feel like I'd be bothering them while they're trying to get through applications. ^^; Of course, maybe I should wait until I'm accepted or not to start thinking about these things.

lol. well i would at least wait for their decision before you call them :p

Riku,

I also was thinking of a canopy. I absolutely cannot sleep without pure darkness. I was thinking maybe a free standing canopy made out of pvc pipe and connectors. The pieces could fit together with no drilling or power tools. And you could slide the curtains straight onto the pipes. I don't know if it would be acceptable, but there'd be no holes in the walls.

Funny, I was also thinking about bringing power tools, but I figured I'd have to keep them in the boot of my car.

Off-topic; Kingdom Hearts fan?

Oh! That's a good idea! I was thinking of trying to find already finished wood and doing the appropriate cuts and such and then putting them together then, but PVC sounds easier.

And, yup! http://mariko15.deviantart.com/gallery/7262833#/d185o2t

Lightweight too! I figure that it only needs to be temporary, not like you'll need it elsewhere.

Haha! I'm a Sora cosplayer! If we both make it in, we'll have to do a shoot together. I even have a Kairi that lives in Daytona Beach. Said Kairi is also a photography major.
