I am an AP holder who was NOT able to secure a discounted room for our May trip. The reason I bring this up is that I have read may posts that Disney does not request to see the AP most of the time. I would add that everytime I have checked in with an AP rate I have never been asked to show it to the Cast Member. Could it be that most of the AP rooms were taken by people that do not have an AP and have no intention of getting one??

I got AP rates and I don't have an AP yet, but I do intend on buying one. My question is do I have to buy a voucher before I get to my resort or can I wait and purchase my AP when I get there? I don't see a need for Disney to have my money for an AP until I actually get it. Will the resort CM allow me to check-in now and show proof of my AP before I check out?

I would buy your voucher before you go. SInce there are no discounts on AP's (unless you are DVC) it will save you some time. Also when we used the AP rate at AKL last July they did ask to see our AP. Since I only had a voucher they wanted to see the voucher and asked me to return later with the activated AP to secure the rate. It's easy to activate the voucher at any Guest Services locations at all 4 parks and DTD.

How does buying a voucher save time? Is it quicker to activate a voucher than it is to purchase an AP?

I guess some slip through. I would hate to think that many do. It is a shame that anyone would even consider doing that, but we know that some truly do not care.

I have always been checked for having an AP. Many others have been asked too. This is the part of Internet forums that I find is not productive. When others post that they were not asked for theirs at checkin, it promotes the idea that others can get away with it.

Even if I was never asked for mine I would not share that here, as I know one is required.

I have had to show my AP every time I have booked into a resort.
Also, I know of two couples that booked AP discounted rooms without the AP in hand, they told the CM that they had the vouchers and were told to go back to show the desk the completed AP. They did not do that, in fact they did not buy AP's and had to pay rack rate on the day of their departure.
Unfortunately I did smile at their predicament.
:rotfl:

Hmm, I hope people don't do that, but I guess there probably are some that do, and get away with it. A shame... Anyway, we are AP holders, but we were NOT asked to show our AP at check-in at POFQ and AKL last month. :confused3

WE have always had to show our AP's. I would hate to think that they dont check that out. There are always people who try to cheat the system. :sad2:

We stayed at the GF for 16 nights and our AP's were verified two different times by CM's. We had our wedding and honeymoon at the GF and went down to the front desk frequently to review charges, I was surprised the second time but understood the policy. During our stay there was another honeymoon couple that we called "Bonnie & Clyde" because they were constantly up to no good at the GF and in the parks. We kept running into them everywhere...at the California Grill they took someone's table. Upon our final check-out they got caught without valid AP's and Clyde was yelling at the CM and all I heard was "We will get the authorities involved if we have too...." I could'nt help but laugh...who would want to spend their honeymoon scamming people. Moral of the story the CM's will check at any time.

I have been lucky enough to get an ap rate for the past few years. I have always had an AP and always been asked to show it at check in. The one time I had only the voucher the CM noted it on the reservation but instructed me to return with the active AP after the first day at the park. She told me that if I did not return with the active AP my rate would revert to rack rate. Needless to say I returned that day with the activated AP!! This was at the Polynesian in October of 04. My other expereience were at CSR, CR, AKL and BC, (BC just this feb o5!).

Good luck and keep trying, you never know what will open up.

From what I have read they seem to be cracking down on the AP rates. More people are reporting being asked for it.

Also, if you have an active AP it can be linked to your reservation I guess by the address. I was once checked in by a CM being trained and her trainer pointed to the screen and showed her where my AP info was so she knew how to find it in the future. So if they aren't asking it may be that it has been verified.

I did see one family get tripped up... they asked to buy park hoppers and the CM said sure. When they indicated they needed one for all of their family she asked about the AP that they had told her they were going to activate. Mom turned BRIGHT RED and the CM said that if they didn't bring the AP in by the next evening they would be charged the rack rate. She then did a lot of typing on the screen which I bet was some type of notice/flag.

We were asked to see our AP at the AKL in January and it was scrutinized for about 5 minutes before the CM said okay. I am not sure what she was looking for. We had been at the Dolphin for 5 nights before we moved over to AKL so it had been activated for several days and our AP's are good until 01/06.

We were just asked for ours at POR, and know someone else who has recently, too. I hvae heard that they are being more diligent in requesting them at check-in, and I am glad.

Are you the person who posted on another thread that you are an AP holder and not able to get an AP rate?? Were you flexible with your hotel choice?? Did you start calling at 6:59 on 3/9?? Have you tried calling every day for availability? I started calling at 6:59 on 3/9, waited on hold for 40 minutes. Our first choice was CSR, it was not available, so I took POR, which was available for our entire stay (nothing else). The next day we decided that a split stay might be fun, so I called and got an AP rate for CBR for the last four nights of our stay. So I have four nights in POR and four nights in CBR all at the AP rate. KEEP TRYING!!

We have had AP's in the past and I don't recall showing them at check in. One of us will have one this time and I will see if they ask for it. Good luck! :goodvibes

Just as a heads up, discounted vouchers for APs, PAPs, FL resident Seasonal Passes, FL resident APs and FL resident PAPs can be purchased at Shades of Green.

And I've always had my AP ready at check-in, but I've never been asked to show it. I hope they are starting to crack down on showing the ID.
