I just tried to upgrade my ticket to the seasonal AP but she said she can’t do it because my ticket cost more than the AP and they are not allowed to do it because the downgrade would be illegal (because they are changing my ticket to a lesser value). She said this has nothing to do with the seasonal blackout ending tomorrow. She said they would owe me money back which they can’t give, and I don’t want money back I just want the seasonal pass, it would cost $40 per pass to get Power AP. I’m at the desk at Portofino. She told me I could feel free to ask at guest services at the park. Maybe I’ll try that tomorrow. Anyone else think she is correct? Or wrong?

Sounds like you have multiple people's tickets to upgrade? You should be able to upgrade to one Power and the others Seasonal, mix & match to be close to breaking even. Guest Services in the parks can do more than the ticket desk at the resorts.

I am not sure if it will work if you used tickets on what would have been blackout dates - let us know the verdict.

Also if you're there a few more days or planning a 2nd trip on the APs, you may conrider one Preferred for the discounts - if you're already at a Power AP, it's really easy to make the difference between those two back in discounts.

Thanks so much I didn’t think to try to mix and match to come close to break even.

she said it was fine about using the tickets during the blackout and that doesn’t matter. Yes we used them during theblackout. But she was still willing to upgrade them to power AP. Which has the same blackout as seasonal for Jan. It was only the cost downgrade which was the issue.
I will try tomorrow in the parks and report back.

I would try at a park. It has been a few years, but I did upgrade a ticket to a seasonal AP several years ago and was given a gift card refund.

thanks so much for your comments! It worked. But FYI it only works at guest services at the front of the park. I tried at one of the guest services back further in the parks since it had no line. Had a wonderful employee who told me it would definitely work, but could only be done at the front of the park. She promised she would come check on me in the long line to make sure it worked, and she did! There were no issues at the front of the park and I upgraded our 3 day tickets to seasonal AP , even though we used the tickets during 2 days of blackout. I didn’t have to pay any money since the tickets actually cost a little more than the AP. She did not give me a refund, but I didn’t want one. I just wanted to not have to pay for the preferred pass. So fyi to anyone else trying to upgrade!
