AP Renewal After Expiration

I've had an AP since 2013, but I let it lapse in October 2018. I've never lost or replaced the old card. I'm planning to get a new one eventually. If, when I do, I am told that I will be charged for a new card, I would be highly irritated. That is absolutely ridiculous.

You get a brand new card. Everything starts anew.
Funny we have done this before and they gave us grief about not having our old cards the one time we didn't. After that we have always had them and they simply reactivated them, even if buying "new ones" after they expired.

If the card has been lost or stolen, they will make you pay for a new one (we lucked out the one time because we were getting "new" passes and pointed that out to them). The only way to get a free replacement aside from getting pixie dust is if your card has been damaged through no fault of your own (i.e. through normal wear and tear) and you have the card with you and can prove it is not working properly in the parks. Once I had a barcode that was rubbing off (due to a batch of bad cards they got) and would no longer scan at the registers for discounts, who told me to go to the ticket booth to get it replaced. Well, it scanned just fine at the ticket booth, so they wanted to charge me for the replacement, I pushed back, but really they want to charge you for a replacement no matter what.

I'm not talking about while you have the pass. But if I had the pass for 6 years and then get another in 3 years and they expect me to have the same card three years later, that's absolutely ridiculous. It's not a "replacement" at that point. It's just a new annual pass. I've only not had my pass for 6 months and I have no idea where it is because I don't carry it around anymore. While you have the pass active? Sure, charge to replace it (even though I think that's ridiculous as well). But to expect someone to have the same card when they buy a new pass years later or charge them $20 for it is nothing short of insane.

While I agree with you, that is exactly what they expect, yes, even 3 years after it expired, we had to push to get them not to charge us for a new card under such circumstances (although it was closer to one year, but the point still remains the same)

I had an AP for years around 2005-2015. Would sometimes renew right away, sometimes with a gap of a few weeks to a month or so. Sometimes I had my old card and other times I didn't. I don't ever recall being charged a replacement fee. I guess I might have been, but don't remember ever being charged.

Before last year, I had a gap of about 3 years since I had an AP. And I can say for certain that when I got this one last year, there was no expectation that I had my old card or any fee for "replacing" the old card.

We were not expected to bring my daughter’s old pass after just a three month break. She was issued a brand new pass without any mention of her old AP or the $20 charge.

We've "renewed" twice. However, both times we bought them online beforehand and handed them the printed voucher at the booth. No mention of where our old card was.

looks like I opened up a can of worms. I guess I won't find out what happens in my case until this fall.

The other way to get a free replacement card is if the card has been stolen and you can provide a copy of the police report to Guest Services. As long as you can show the police report, you will receive a free replacement card.
