posted this over on dining plan page, but no response, so trying here: question is if you book a AP discount room, can you always add the dining plan now, or was that just a special deal they occasionally allow?
At one point in time I did it during a "special" but was recently able to do it just because I asked... The best way to know is to call and ask when you are ready to book.
Annual Passholders can now add the DDP at any time without having to buy a park ticket. The only exceptions are if you are booking a pkg like the free dining, buy 4/get 3 free, or the bounceback % off deals. If you are booking at rack rate or with an AP room discount, then yes you can add the DDP. Just tell the CM you have an AP and want to book an 'AP ticketless pkg with dining'.
I did this for my upcoming May trip. I originally called and booked the room at rack rate, told the CM I had an AP, and had her add the basic DDP. I did not need to add any park tickets. When I was at WDW in Dec I called and had the CM switch to the 35% off bounceback deal. She told me that my other pkg was an 'AP ticketless pkg with dining', but the bounceback deals require at least one day park tickets, even for AP holders. I knew that of course and told her to just add the one day park ticket. About 1 1/2 weeks after I got home the AP discounts came out, so I called and had them apply that discount instead. The CM applied the discount, then said being an AP holder I didn't need the one day ticket, so also took it off.
