AP Questions

Trying to figure out if it's worth getting an AP for at least one of us for our upcoming trip. With discounts it may be worth it. Unfortunately, finding info on the disneyland site about AP benefits seems impossible without having an actual AP already.

Do AP holders get a discount on the DLR hotels all the time, or only select dates? And can you get discounts for multiple rooms with one AP or just one per AP?

Do you have to have your AP before you book? If you order your AP online does it start "ticking" right then or after you use it the first time?

Thank you!

I can answer a couple of these questions. Disneyland AP holders usually get at least 10% of rooms but obviously most of us hold out for more. The AP calendar is up through the end of November right now. Are there dates in that time frame you are looking for? The rates can and do change.
An AP can reserve 2 rooms.
Discounts vary depending on what type of AP you have. But this past year they have been offering a lot more discounts than years past.

We're looking at going in February. I'm thinking we may end up saving some if one of us gets an AP because the 10% discount (or more if available). If we reserve now and the dates in February have a better AP rate can we call and get that applied?

I don't know if they will give you the AP rate without the calendar up. For example last week they still wouldn't give me Decembers rates, because the calendar is not up. February will most likely be up in November.
Also, they usually offer great ticket and hotel packages that time of year. I would keep my eyes open for both. Someone here can always let you know the AP rate.
I am not 100% but I do believe you don't have to purchase your actual AP until the day you check in. Also, I don't think it activates until you go to the parks. Someone here can confirm this.
You will want to know the blockout days too if you are not a PAP. I haven't checked as far out as February, so if you are going over presidents weekend, it would be important to know if there are any blockout days.
If you plan to come back within a years time you can really take advantage of the AP, as well.

We're going first or 2nd week (probably the 2nd-9th) so there are no blackout dates, fortunately.

Just trying to decide what to do and really appreciate the answers here. I think we have time to decide. February isn't a very popular time to visit. I am thinking about reserving a room only (2 rooms actually) at DLH or PPH for that time just in case (and cancel more than 30 days out if a better deal comes out) which is why I'm wondering if we can retroactively apply the AP rate if we already have a reservation.

In Feb. the only DAP blockout days are the 19th and 20th. Just in case you needed to know.

I see we posted at the same time. Yes, I actually booked room only for the end of November. The CM told me if the AP rates are better, and are available, they will adjust it. You will have to put a down payment for 1 night when you call. As long as you call within 5 days of your trip you can get a full refund on room only.
