AP - Impossible to get for BVC in Dec?

We have a ressie for BCV and I plan to call today to split our stay with BCV and Poly Concierge. I want to experience the best of both worlds! We are going from December 3-11. When DH made the ressie, the CM told him it was possible, but very unlikely, we would get an AP rate for BCV because of its popularity with DVC members that month. Has anyone tried this and been successful? Do they set aside AP for the Villas? We would stay regardless, but a discount would be great. And based on history, when are AP's generally released for December travel? TIA!

Early December is the most popular time with DVC members, with the resorts getting sold out pretty quickly after members can make their reservations. Since DVC members own 97% of the resort (meaning 97% of the rooms) that only leaves 3% of the rooms left for WDW to use for cash reservations. Just looking at those numbers you can see how it will be next to impossible to get a discount during that time. If you're going to stay regardless, then don't worry about it. When AP rates for that time are released, you can certainly ask, but I agree with the CM that your odds of getting an AP rate for that time period is basically nil.

You'd get an even better rate (assuming availability) renting points from a DVC member for that time period. Check out the DVC Rent/ Trade Board here on the DIS, and read thru the FAQ. But this way you'll do way better than even an AP rate.

I have checked out renting points, but I know December is so popular that it may be almost impossible to find anyone willing to rent that month. I'd hate to chance it and wait for something to hopefully come up. The other thing that would make me nervous about renting is if we have to cancel for some reason, at least we have a 6 day cancellation policy through Disney. With three kids under age 4, you just never know if they get sick or whatever.
