AP, Dining Plan, and Tickets question

I have a split stay reservation, currently room only book for Jan at AKL and WL, 5 days at each. I just got the AP discount applied to our reservation today. (hurray!)

I don't yet have the AP, but will purchase prior to checking in, as is required.

IF we decide to add the dining plan:

1. can we do that if only one of us has an AP and the other two will be getting MYW tix, or does "everyone in your room have to be on the same package to get the dining plan"...meaning we would all have to have AP's or all have MYW tix, and not a mix of the two??

2. If we can add the dining plan without all 3 of us having the same ticket type (1 AP, 2 MYW), I'm assuming that the MYW tix would have to be the same number of nights as each reservation, a 5 day ticket with Dining Plan for 5 days for the 1st half of the split stay at AKL, then another 5 day ticket with dining plan for the second half of the split stay at WL. Is that right?

If so, that means that we will be paying more for tickets, right, since "the more you play the less you pay" with MYW tix (price per day goes down with each additional day's ticket purchased up to 10 days)?

Wow, I just priced that and it is a hefty difference. Cost for a 10 day ticket is 252.41 (adult). Cost for two 5-day tickets is 2 x 236.43 or nearly twice as much. Is this correct?

3. I guess we could instead purchase the 10 day MYW tix for the 2 of us that don't have AP's. That would save about $460 on tickets, I guess. Then we'd have to forgo the dining plan?

I guess I'm thinking that to get the dining plan, it is tied to the number of nights of your reservation, which also has to be the same number as your days of MYW tickets. But maybe that's not right, because I kept reading that AP holders were buying 1-day tickets to get the Dining Plan b/c you had to have at least a one day ticket to get the DP.

I'm sorry this is so convoluted. No doubt I shouldn't be attempting logic this late at night.

Extra measures of gratitude and pixie dust for anyone able to help this logic-challenged brain.:wizard:

After I made my reservations for a MYW package w/DxDP, I then needed to change my tix to AP because we will be going back next June. I called to see about the AP rate and it was applied and I was able to keep the DxDP without also purchasing an additional one day ticket. Now when I called about the free dining, I could have gotten that instead of the AP rate, but would have had to purchase a one day ticket for everyone also.

The DDP is tied to how many nights you are staying, not the length of your tickets.
Not sure how split stays work, I've never done that, but if it is one package, as in one reservation, you should be able to purchase the 10day tickets and have the DDP for 10 days.
Everyone in your room, must be on the same plan.
You must purchase the DDP before arriving. I have been told/and read that you can not add it at check-in.

Just do an AP plus dining on the first package with 10day passes for everyone (except the passholder) and a AP plus dining on the second package with tickets for noone

Thanks! Then we'd have to make sure we have all the dining credits used up before midnight of the day we switch to the second resort, not really a problem. The bonus is that we don't have to buy two sets of five-day MYW tix. Okay, got it!:thumbsup2

I hate to be a somewhat wet (damp?) blanket, but I strongly believe from my actual experiences that you will have to buy tickets (at least one day for everyone else in you party) for each of the two portions of the split stay.

Every time that we have done split stays, including three resorts this past September, each portion was considered a separate reservation. As such, you need to meet the requirements for DDP for each portion. Only one person needs the AP; you only need to buy one-day tickets for everyone else, as the DDP is tied to your room nights and not your tickets.

Now, this does not mean that you need to use the tickets purchased for the second portion. You might be better off, depending on if you plan on returning to WDW in the future, to still purchase 10-day tickets, use them for the entire trip (both portions), and save the additional one-days (from the second portion) for your next trip. And, as long as you do not use them, they are transferable.

I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions, let me know.

Passholders can do the DDP without buying any tickets. On the first res they can buy tickets for the entire length of stay, on the second res they dont need any tickets at all and can still get DDP

This is how we did it also. Our trip in Dec we booked for 4 people, all DDP, DH and I have AP's and Son and DIL will buy tickets there. It is accurate that this will work for all but free dining, when you are obligated to purchase at least a one day pass for everyone on the ressie.
