AP child dining discounts

My son was given an AP as a gift (he is four) but my husband and I will be using 3 day passes for the trip. I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm wondering if a child's pass alone is sufficient for dining discounts if the rest of us don't have one.

It has to be an adult with the AP to get the discount. Those discounts have been cut back, too. Our 6 yr. old couldn't get an AP discount when she dined with her grandparents.
