Our AP's expired Dec 18, 2014 and I know I have until 1-18 to renew. My ? is, can I downgrade from Premium to Regular Annual Pass? If so what will that price be? I tried to renew online and it did give me the option to choose the regular AP, however the price was showing $574 for DVC renewal. That doesn't seem right to me.

We are only going once, probably in October this year, so still deciding if it is really worth renewing at this point. Will be a 10 day trip (at least, maybe 12) and using over 300 points as our trips are becoming less and less due to my girls gymnastics taking over!! Love it though :)

Yes, you can downgrade from the PAP to a regular AP. We did it for our holiday trip on November 29, 2014. Per AllEars, it is $435.59 which includes the tax to renew your AP. That figure sounds right as I know it was over $850 for the two of us to renew.

However, since you are not going until October 2015, I would seriously consider buying a new pass then instead of a renewal now. Do you know what your plans for 2016 are? If you can get two visits on the same AP wouldn't that be better? If we cannot get at least 10 days on an AP, it's not worth the price IMO.

Conventional wisdom is to NOT renew if you won't be using the pass for about 2 months, I think. With DVC pricing that might be a little different, but I would not renew an AP in Jan if I knew I wasn't going until October.

IMO, I don't think I would renew the pass, but rather just buy a new one when you go in October. At least, that would be good until October of 2016 and give you the chance to use it a 2nd time.

By renewing, it will expire in Dec of 2015 and you know for sure it will only cover one trip.

As mentioned, the savings is not that much on a renwal vs a new. Just a thought...it also gives you time to possible take advantage of a DVC ticket deal should one come out prior to you going in October.

Good luck!

To answer part of your question. At renewal time you can upgrade or downgrade to any level of AP you are entitled to purchase and will pay the renewal price at the new level.

However, as others have said you should not renew but purchase new when you next come here. That way you will get a new anniversary/expiration date. And the difference in price is definitely not significant when you consider the new expiration.

Ty everyone for responses! That does make more sense to wait until trip time to purchase again and have the chance of using next year for sure. I was on a one track mind of getting the renewal price but that makes no sense if we can only use them the one trip! Duh. I remember reading you can buy them ahead of time though and not activate them until you get there so we can schedule our FP at the 60 day mark. Is that correct?

Do not renew. Rebuy.

You are going to save about what, 80$ by renewing?

Mine ran out in december, and even not going until march, i went with a new one as opposed to a renewal.

That is 3 months I do not have a pass, nor am I paying for one. If that is the case every time, it will take 4 years (3 months each time, X4 year = 12) and I will buy one less annual pass.

so 4 annual passes, say 500 a piece = 2000. (covers me for 5 years)

5 renewals at 420 = 2100.

Nothing big. I think you can end up paying for a lot of unused time with renewals. It all depends on how often you go.

With a 10 month gap, you are paying for a lot of unused time.
