Aotearoa Longhouse

I just requested Aotearoa longhouse at the Poly for our upcoming stay in Dec., because we wanted a fresh newly remodeled room.
Was this a good choice location wise though? Can anyone who has stayed there tell me their experience? CRO did tell me that at night you can hear the drums and stuff from the Luau.She said alot of people don't like it, but we feel like it would just add to the whole atmosphere.

I stayed in this longhouse last year and really liked it. We had a garden view room on the monorail side on the third floor. It was neat to watch the monorails go by and my daughter really liked to see them. There was no noise from monorails or luau to be heard at all from our room. I liked the location, very close to GCH and volcano pool. We actually requested it again this year but it was being renovated when we got there. This year they put us in Tokelau and I will have to say that I liked it even better there. Aoetorea was pretty far away from the TTC where you get on the monorail for Epcot. Tokelau was just convenient to everything! As far as the drum sounds, the luau is over by ten so you would only hear them for a little while if you heard them at all and I'm like you I love hearing the luau sounds while at the Poly. If we make it back there next year I am planning to request either Tokelau or Fiji. Fiji just looked to be in a really great location too.

I have heard that Aotearoa is a hidden jewel at the Polynesian. From what I have heard, the only chance that you'd hear the Luau is if you are on the Luau side of the building AND you leave your patio/porch door open. If you get the monorail side, there shouldn't be an issue.

We stayed on the 3rd floor monorail side. We could hear the luau drums and smell the food cooking from our balcony. The room is quiet when the balcony doors are closed.

We've stayed in Aotearoa 3 times. First time, 3rd Floor lagoon side (our very 1st trip to WDW). We almost cried when we were able to see the castle and hear the howling coming from Haunted Mansion!

Second time, 3rd Floor monorail side. Had a view of a service area (not very nice) from our balcony - but still a nice room.

Third time was 1st Floor, lagoon side with our 18 month old. We could hear the drumming from the luau (but really only for about 30 seconds near the end of the show) with the sliders closed.

We actually liked that the Aotearoa building was furthest from the TTC as our favorite activity after a long day in the parks was to get off at the TTC and walk the tiki lit pathways back to our room. It would be too hot to do this in the summer but in the fall or winter it would be romantic. The building is convenient to the GCH and Captain Cook's.

We've also stayed in Tuvalu (lagoon view), Fiji (marina view) and Tokelau (garden view). All were fine and had advantages of their own. I think we'll request Fiji (marina view) again for next April's stay.
