The dentist took my blood pressure today and it was 96/72.

I always have low blood pressure 98/72, 96/68, etc.

I have mentioned this to my doctor and she didn't seem worried.

Is this a good thing or is there a reason why I would not want it to be low?

Thanks

There is such as a thing as blood pressure being too low. However, if your doctor isn't concerned, you probably are nowhere near the lower limit.

Just be careful with the kind of medications you take. I have always had low blood pressure and a few years ago I was going to a headache clinic to treat my migraines. I was on antidepressants and Nadolo which is a high blood pressure medication. All I did was sleep. At one of my checkups the doctor came in and said with my low blood pressure and low heart rate I should be dead. Needless to say he changed my meds. That would be my only concern is any meds that are going to drop your blood pressure lower but your doctor will watch out for that.

Another low blood pressure person here! The funny thing is we were in Wal Mart and my 12yo dd and I check our BP with one of those store machines and she was higher than me.

Another story...I was in the hospital with dd (pregnant) on the MagSulfate for preterm labor. The night nurse would have to wake me up every night to make sure I was alive. She would always apologize for waking me but she said I scared her.

I have low blood pressure as well and the only time it really is an issue is if you have surgery; anesthesia could depress your blood pressure even more and that's not good. I have also passed out a couple of times and have to be careful when I'm sick to sit up slowly.

Overall low blood pressure is GOOD for your health, but there are some risks.

I am also a low blood pressure person my lowest was 85/58. That was the only time my Dr expressed concern.

I do not donate blood, it can be very dangerous for someone with low pressure. Passing out is very common, believe me I have been there.

The only trouble I have ever had is when I was younger (in my teens) in the high heat or if I got particularly upset I would get dizzy and once in awhile pass out.

It may raise as you age mine has I am now 42 and it is pretty steady at 100/62.

I have low blood pressure also. Syncope episodes (fainting spells) are fairly common with people with low blood pressure. I can feel one coming on and have been able to alert DH who, luckily has been with me the times it has happened.

Last one I had was at RFC in DTD 1 1/2 years ago! Pretty embarassing to say the least..............it took me all night and until th enext morning to feel better............

I try to stay well hydrated at all times.............

My father had surgery recently, and was in his room recovering, when his blood pressure dropped. Not because his surgery but because of the idiot incompetant nurse taking care of him. She left his IV bag empty for 2 hours, then put one on that went thru his system too quick and wasn't controlled. His BP got down to 48/40!! I still think I should write to the hospital about her. Anyway, if it gets down that low....thats not too good.

I tend to have dizzy spells ALOT! I have to be careful standing up to quickly...or I fall over. Not good since some people tend to think I've been drinking.

Another one with low blood pressure here, I don't/can't donate blood, and I'm also prone to dizzy spells when I sit up too fast.

Wow! That explains a lot. I've always had low blood pressure ... at times the nurse has not been able to find it! I have donated blood exactly once and I immediately started to black out and the blood came out in slow drops ... now I know why. My DH is a major blood donor and makes me feel wimpy for not donating ... now I know what the problem is! Thanks.

Also, I get cold very easily and have always atributed that to low blood pressure.
