We are going Thanksgiving week for the first time this year. It is so hard getting everyone together now that my boys are in college. They will be on break that week so it works for us. Any how, is there anything special going on that week? Are the Christmas decorations going to be up yet.

TIA
Ana

Christmas decorations should be finished by Thanksgiving Day resort-wide, except for the MK Christmas tree.

Also many of the restaurants will have special thanksgiving day meals. Also things like the Epcot story tellers and candle light processional dont start until the day after thanksgiving so there are those activities that week.

Nothing special or out of the ordinary. MVMCP will be going on, might be nice to check that out one night! Definitely worth it! Enjoy!

During Thanksgiving week itself, no MVMCP.

Don't know their exact dates but it could work depending on when they're going.

MVMCP dates:
  • November 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 29
  • December 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18

The day after Thanksgiving, Candlelight Processional and Holiday Storytellers will begin at EP. Osborne Lights will be on all week at HS.

Was there 2014 for Thanksgiving. All the decorations were up except the tree in MK. There were no MVMCP's...the last one was the Friday before Thanksgiving and the next one was the Sunday after but none that actual week. The storytellers and candlelight processional started Black Friday. A few restaurants had special meals. Osbourne lights were normal schedule all week.

It was an AWESOME week to go. We were in MK for rope drop on Black Friday and it was DEAD. I have never ever seen it that empty and we visit A LOT. We really didn't have problems with crowds the entire week. The weather was eh....would have liked it a bit warmer and the thanksgiving meals were very expensive as well as Tables in Wonderland being blacked out. We just did Cracker Barrell to go Thanksgiving meal instead which worked out fantastically.

We went last year that week for the same reason, kids and school as they get older are more difficult to take them out. It was great, the decorations were mostly all up and the Osborne Lights were going strong.

Weather was crazy, it was seasonal when we got there, went up to mid-80s and humid in the middle, then a major thunderstorm and tornado warnings, then freezing cold. So pack some of everything, summer through winter.

We went to Trail's End for dinner, it was busy early but then cleared out later. The fresh turkey and ham were on the buffet, they took away grilled chicken and pizza and the salad bar was smaller. They added classic Thanksgiving desserts too.

That week is probably going to be our regular annual visit. For 2015 we're going to try Captain's Grille for Thanksgiving brunch, then leave for home that day.

Have a great time - maybe we'll see you there!!!

Yes! The "tornado" day was awful....we were in AK and they made us shelter in Dinosaur for the tornado warnings. I have never seen it rain like that there, and we visit very often. I think the news said 9 inches fell that morning! Crazy!!! Luckily it was warm that day because it was really cold then the rest of the week. One of the craziest weather trips we've ever had there!

We are going that week this year too; well we are actually going down the Thursday before Thanksgiving & staying the whole week of... I'm so excited!! I can't wait to see the Osborne Lights!

We were there the whole week this past year, too. Other than a full day of rain at MK, it was great (and we still had fun in the rain once we had a plan).

Osborne lights at HS was great. We had Thanksgiving dinner at Boma and loved it. Most places were decorated for Christmas, so that was nice. We went to AK on Thanksgiving day, as it was predicted to be the least crowded. We even saw Mickey & Minnie in their Christmas outfits at AK. Overall, it was a great week!

I was there too! I agree with all this, except I would say that MANY restaurants had special Thanksgiving menus (only on the actual Thanksgiving day). We ate at Brown Derby, and for whatever reason, no one ordered the Thanksgiving menu. It was a great meal nonetheless. We saw Osborne Lights afterward - very festive.

It did not feel nearly as busy as I thought it would. Weather was rainy, but otherwise pretty nice. I wouldn't hesitate to visit that week again, though we're trying March for our next trip.

How was Boma on Thanksgiving? That is where we plan to eat for dinner that night.

We will be there the day after you.

We at at Boma on Thanksgiving 2009. It was the first and only time I have eaten there so I can't say how it compares to their regular menu. It was very good and we enjoyed our meal there. I do remember they had traditional Thanksgiving offerings along with many other selections. We had a large family group of 13. My Dad wanted ice cream (to go with pie?) and it wasn't something they regularly offered but the waiter came back with ice cream just for him!

We arrived late on the Thursday before Thanksgiving and saw light/moderate crowds until we went to the Magic Kingdom on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We did not go to a park on Thanksgiving day and flew home the Friday after Thanksgiving. But our other extended family members went to Epcot on Friday. I can't remember whether they said they came back to the hotel soon after either because of crowds or the cold weather?

Thanks for all the replies. I am already getting excited. The kids are telling me that any Disney food is better than Thanksgiving fare. Gee thanks, I have created food snobs. So I am not sure where we will choose to go.
The Osborne Lights sound awesome.
