Anything extra at MGM since no Osbourne Lights?

Our family is really excited about going around the Holidays. Since this is our first time in December, we can't really miss what we've not seen. Just curious to see if Disney is going to do anything extra at MGM this Christmas, with no Osborne lights this year.

Not that I have seen. There was talk about relocating the Osborne spectacle, but the decision was made not to for this year. :(

But Disney is aware of the desirability to see this "Holiday Spectacle". While Mr Osbourne is saying they WILL go up, no specific plans have yet been released. I understand they are working on arrangements for following years. The lights are a big holiday "draw" for Disney and The Studios

Pintrader, If they've not yet started, I don't think they have time to put them up this year?
I did read somewhere ( DVC Fall newsletter? ) that there would be something special at MGM for the holidays? I guess we'll just see when we get there

The last few years, there has been a tree lighting ceremony with singers and characters... It was nice, but not as nice as the Osborn Lights.

This is from the November issue of the Mickey Monitor - the newsletter for annual passholders:

Celebrate the Season, Studios-style!

Get ready. The Characters are dressing up and stepping out to spread some holiday cheer around Disney-MGM Studios. Come see Minnie, Santa Goofy, Pluto, Lilo, Stitch and more of your favorites at The Sorcerer’s Hat for autographs and pictures. Sarge and his Toy Soldiers from the Disney presentation of the Pixar film, Toy Story, will be hosting a meet and greet, and some of your Fantasmic! Friends will be making appearances as well.

On Hollywood Boulevard and at The Sorcerer’s Hat, you’ll enjoy holiday-themed sketches, the Holiday GleeClub and A Citizens of Hollywood Tree Lighting.

Thanks CarolMN.
If anyone's been recently, do they know what time the Citizens of Hollywood tree lighting is?

Thanks!

I know my opinion is not the one held by most...and not a popular one. The times we went to the Osborne lights, it was total chaos. Too many people. People running into us, cutting our little 6-some apart. We held onto our kids for fear they might fall and be trampled. I hope when the lights return that they are in a better place than where they were. They need to be in a more open area. Again, just my opinion, but it was an event we began to dread and avoid. the best thing about it was the "angel" glasses, and they could do those without the "spectacle."

I know what you mean! It's not at all enjoyable when you have to view the Lights in a crush of humanity (many of whom act like they are not even part of humanity, LOL).

Based on a few year's experience, we've found that the best time to view the Lghts is to go on a night that there are two showings of Fantasmic. Hit the lights about 5 to 10 minutes before the end of the first show. That way you miss the big crush at the beginning as well as the crush from those who choose to tour right after Fantasmic. When we do use that strategy, we are exiting just as the main group from Famtasmic arrives. We've walked through leisurely and freely.

Try it next time - maybe you won't feel the dread and need to avoid the event.

Best wishes!

Carol, good tip. I've saved it for my 2004 planner. Thanks!! Maybe we can get through it that way. they are beautiful if you aren't caught in the crush!

We don't arrive until NYE evening. Maybe I'll just bring my Angel and Snowflake glasses from years past and make my own Osborne Lights.

I know what you mean about the "crush", but from another point of view Residential Street was an ideal place for a lighting display, because it seemed just like a back-home Christmas in the neighborhood. (Taken to the extreme!) Wherever they put the lights, it will never bring that kind of feeling again.
