Anyone with planter wart experience? Update it is gone.

FWIW, my doctor TOLD me to use the home remedies and drugstore stuff. He says that cutting/freezing doesn't work in many cases, so it's best to start with the at-home stuff.

Not to mention it hurts!!!! Holy cow!

I developed one with three weeks until my trip!!! My podiatrist did the cathardinian treatment. Two treatments a week apart and I am good to go!!! It's painful as anything. I mean, it burns your skin and forms a blister. But it's fast and in my opinion last painful than freezing. It's also healing a lot faster than cutting. It's only 9 days since my first treatment and I'm pain free and the wart is almost gone.

Plantar warts are caused by the HPV virus. The virus lives in the layers of skin so it is difficult for your immune system to reach the virus and destroy it.

I will share my story…

After a trip to the local swimming pool my oldest son and myself both got Plantar warts. I tried the OTC medicine on us both, a week later my son’s were gone mine were not. For the next two and a half years I tried every remedy known to man, nothing helped, I had about a dozen warts on the bottom of my foot. They didn’t bother me much pain wise but It was time to get rid of them. I had a Disney trip six months away and I wanted them gone. I got a referral from my GP to a podiatrist. The Dr looked at my situation and decided to try a chemotherapy drug used to treat skin cancer. So for the next 12 weeks I applied the drug wearing latex gloves to keep it off any skin we didn’t want to kill. Every two weeks I would go in and the DR would scrape away the dead skin. Unfortunately after the 12 weeks we had shrunk the warts but not killed them. The Dr said I would next need to go and have them froze and then cut off. We didn’t initially try this route because of the number of them and the pain.

So knowing I had a Disney trip the next month I decided to delay the next procedure until after I returned. I went off to Disney where I walked and walked and walked some more…. It was a fun trip. About two weeks after I returned home from Disney I woke up one morning and noticed all the warts were gone! Finally my body’s immune system had recognized the virus , developed the correct immune response and attacked it. It’s been over a year and not a year has come back since…

So I recommend a week at Disney! Lol…

OP again. DS will repeat the oral med and the HyperCare and I'm going to find tea tree oil to start.

I've had one twice. First time in college. Went to student health once a week for a few weeks to have it frozen and scraped until the rest fell out. The second time, I went to my dermatologist to have it taken care of. Frozen and cut off there as well (two treatments).

This is exactly what happened to DH. Dermatologist froze it and said they usually require a few freezings to be successful. He had it done twice and it has been gone since.

I have read that Tea tree oil is not good for boys. It does something to their hormones.

Apple cider vinegar works. Put it on a cotton ball and tape it to thefoot overnight. It will be gone in 1-2 weeks.

Thanks for the warning. My son is 17 so I don't think it will be an issue and in reality what guy that age or even older wouldn't like his own chest growing. :lmao:

Seriously, he has so many darn warts we are treating 1/3 with tea tree oil, the other 1/3 with oregano oil, the other 1/3 with apple cider vinegar right now. The oregano oil is winning out by drying out the top and making it peel back. Tea tree is doing nothing so far and neither is the vinegar. We will keep it up and see what happens.

I really wish duck tape worked for him. It is so hard watching him get them frozen (burned), cut off, and shots of bacteria under them for two years now and nothing works but he has more pain from the treatment than not treating. It is almost as hard to watch more and more show up on his foot and hand.

My son's doctor explained the same thing about the virus. He said the treatments are supposed to stimulate the immune system to respond to get rid of the virus to avoid the treatment. We too used the skin cancer meds every day for months then covered them with duct tape with no luck.

Sadly many trips to Disney and walking all day didn't help either. lol

My dr. (my obgyn) gave me a cream for genital warts when I asked about them and it didnt work either..... have been trying duct tape and the liquid acid combo for a few weeks. I have the excess skin off the top, but wart and their roots are still there in foot. I've had the one for years but just now getting more around it. Tried lots of other things, too, dont buy the home freezing kits those are a joke. Never had a real trip to the dr for it, too scared! Almost too that point, I will try the oregano oil and vinager soon... thanks for the tips everyone!!!

I second the duct tape. Daughter had a huge one on side of her foot. Everyday, we let it breathe but everynight we soaked it, filed it with nail file to remove dead skin, put compound W on it, then covered it with duct tape. She slept with duct tape in it and then in the am we repeated....took about 7 days to be rid of it!

The key to getting OTC Compound W to work is to soak your wart first. It says so right on the bottle. Of course I didn't read the bottle at first and used it for a month with no results! Once I started soaking the wart, applying the Compound W and covering it with a band aid, the wart came off in two weeks.

My hubby and I both had them and it was horrible! We either picked them up from vacation or at the gym. I only had one that looked like a callous. He had about 5 or 6. He went to the foot doctor first and had them burnt off with acid. It took about 4 treatments. I had to do the same thing. It was about 3 treatments for me. The first day my foot was in pain but I was able to walk around fine the next day. I am a bit more cautious when I am in public places. I use water shoes at the water park and sandals at the gym locker room.

my "plantar's wart" was a souvenier from our disney cruise about 15 years ago :guilty:
i tried every possible home remedy, and lots of money, for about a year before i decided the pain was too much.

the first doctor used acids, etc, then finally a combo of razor and laser to cut a deep hole in my foot (yes...big OUCH!:headache:). the wart was back (not sure it was even fully removed) within a few months.

i went to another podiatrist, who scraped the skin, then applied some black liquid (acid?). after 3 treatments over 3 months, i found myself not limping for the first time in years
about every 2 years, the cycle starts again. btw, this doc stated that the growth was not actually a plantar's wart (some big name i couldn't pronounce, let alone spell), and it was deep in the sole, attached to the bone.
all i know is that whatever that black stuff is, it is wonderful - for years after the cruise, i had forgotten how wonderful a simple walk could be when every single step didn't incur severe pain:cloud9:.
lesson learned: if the pain doesn't go away, go to the doctor. and if the first doc doesn't help, try another.
:)

I am going to try the tea soak - what a great idea!!! i have one and have tried th OTC freeze off with no luck... ugh... figued this sounded nice and if it works woo hoo :) I will try it - how long did it take for results for those that tried the tea method

I got one at the bottom of my foot during my 2nd pregnancy. Eventually had to have it lasered off. Got one again on the bottom of my foot with my 3rd pregnancy.

My dr did this procedure where it makes your body immune to the virus, but I couldn't finish the treatment b/c it was so expensive each month. However, I did have it burned off. It's still very sore. :( I don't think it went away.

Apple Cider Vinegar works like a charm on all warts.

OP here. DS will finish round two of oral meds tomorrow. We tried tea tree extract, no change . Next tried duct tape that did bring the core out. Yesterday he saw my doctor he scraped off some skin from the site. He thinks it now is a callous. I bought corn cushions yesterday hoping that will help.

DS 12 had one and initially the doctor also thought it was a callous, bought OT medicine but did not help, went back to Dr who freezed it...did not help. i was fustrated and tired of wasting money on doctors visit so decided to try the duct tape, had him soak his foat, applied corn medicine (acid ingredient helps) and then put duck tape, we did that for first three nights. After that he would soak and tape, it took time (one or two weeks) but it finally went away and "knocking on wood as I type" still gone...it's been months!

dollar General has large bottles of tree tea oil in the ethnic hair section. I use it for my nails and lots of other things too. Don't pay 10 for it! My aunt can "spirit" warts off......I thought my family was crazy but she rubbed my wart for 15 minutes and 2 weeks later it just disappeared. I had the wart for 2 years before that......I am still wondering what that was really about..maybe faith or my aunt has some strange oil in her skin?

My daughter had a planters wart on her foot for quite a while. Compound W freeze of and liquid didn't work. So I took her to the podiatrist. He said to use this stuff made by Curad. i can't remember the name but they come in individually wrapped sheets. They remind me of moleskin. You cut off a piece just large enough to cover the wart and place it over the wart and cover with a band aid. Change it everyday and soaking does help too. In 2 weeks it was gone. As a matter of fact she (5 years old) popped it out herself with no pain. That was a year ago with no recurrence.

You have to ask at the pharmacy for these. They are not prescription but they do keep them behind the counter. They cost about 50 cents a sheet.

I am going to see if our pharmacy knows what these sheets are. A month of using tea tree oil, vinegar, and oil of oregano 1/3rd of the warts each and covering did nothing but irritate the top layer of skin and turn the top of the little capillaries black. The doctor told me all these are simple skin irritants that might work for some. I think DS are just too deep and he's had them for too long that nothing is doing anything.

I have been using acid/duct tape method for over a month. While the skin is getting down to where I can scrape and cut away the top of the wart, the core and the pain remain. I too think a dr's visit is in my future had them for too many years. Been putting it off for too long, maybe I'll try that tea tree oil first though :)
