Have you ever been assigned a room on an upper floor in a non-elevator building? When I called to make our reservations, I made sure to tell the CM that I'd be on an ECV, and would need either first floor or an elevator building. I just assumed that, since I told her I'd have an ECV, she'd make that guarantee for medical reasons. However, she said, "Well I can put in the request, but it's just a request, not a guarantee." "Even with an ECV?" Apparently so. So now I'm stressing about getting there and having been assigned an upper floor in a non-elevator building. I'm unable to walk up stairs, and besides, DH can't carry my ECV! Has it happened to anyone else?

Did you request an HA unit? I believe all HA units are 1st floor or elevator building.

With that request, I have always gotten, first floor or elevator building, including one, the first floor of an elevator building.
How about calling back and asking again if it can be a medical request.

I'd also just call or email and ask for the request to be first floor or elevator building due to medical reasons and skip the part about ECV. It is true it still won't be guaranteed but consider that every building has first floor rooms plus there are 3 buildings with elevators plus many people request high floors generally means it shouldn't be that difficult of a request to meet. Booking an HA room is the only way to guarantee it but you should be fine. We too had an ECV on a stay there and did the first floor or elevator building due to medical reasons and we were assigned to the first floor in one of the elevator buildings.

I use an ECV and have been on third or second floor. I can do steps somewhat. My husband just brings the battery up into the room to be charged and we leave the ECV in the car. I have. Grand villa booked for May in HH area so I know it will be building 25 so I will have to do steps a few times a day. We just stayed in AKL Jambo a week ago and requested close to elevator and we were in the last pod so even though I wanted to walk a little I had to take the ECV to the pool and to Boma because it was so far. Sometimes I think that no resort is perfect.

Actually I Emailed MS yesterday and asked if it could be a medical request since I can't walk up and down stairs. Unfortunately, when MS Emailed back, they told me that it can't be a medical request (!) and it's still just a request, not a guarantee. So all I can do at this point is hope you're right, Bobbi. I find it hard to believe that MS would insist that a person who can't walk up and down stairs not be guaranteed a first floor room. Maybe we could stay somewhere else, but OKW is by far DH's favorite resort. We don't need HA facilities within the unit, so we didn't request it. And MS didn't suggest it as a way to guarantee first floor.

The problem is that some MS personnel are not in Florida, and have not been to the resorts. I had one tell me that all DVC buildings have elevators. The best way to guarantee access for an ECV at OKW is to reserve an HA unit, even if you don't need the modifications.

This is excellent advice!

If they can't get you in one of the elevator buildings and you have mobility issues they will put you in a ground floor unit. We have always either had my mother or in-laws with us. Have yet to get a unit with the elevators but they always have been able to give us a ground floor unit.

And I had one CM tell me that NONEof the buildings at OKW had elevators. She didn’T believe me about 62, 63, and 64
