I like Elizabeth George - she's American but sets her stories in Great Britain
New Year Island by Paul Draker. A little long but I could not put it down.I'm going to have some time on my hands soon and I'm looking for a good murder mystery novel to read. Anyone with a recommendation?

Great Authors IMO
If you like historical fiction, try Kate Morton. Her novels take place in the present day with a mystery from the past (usually Edwardian to WWII Britain) influencing the modern day characters. I've read them all (there's only five); The Distant Hours is my favorite, but all are worth reading.
I also liked Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. I didn't care for Gone, Girl (but liked the movie). She wrote another but the title is escaping me. It's good too.
