I am a Verizon Wireless customer and my current phone can be upgraded in a month. I am considering a Blackberry Storm.

I am looking for anyone that has one and what their opinions are.....

thanks

I had the chance to try an unlocked GSM Blackberry Storm for 3 days while I was in Miami.

I was not impressed. Get the Bold or switch to ATT and get the Iphone

My friend's bf works for Verizon, and said they've recieved a lot of complaints about the Storm. People say it's really slow, freezes, the screen is hard to touch, etc. Going from his experience, I would wait before getting a Storm, but I don't have one, but I would probably wait until a new version comes out.

I really want the Storm too, but after having tested it in the store, I'm sticking with my Pearl for now. It just has a much slower reaction time and I found typing much more difficult than my Pearl.

Do you currently have a blackberry?

I recently upgraded through Verizon and was looking at a blackberry and another windows based PDA phone. I decided that was too much phone for me and didn't really need the PDA features. I went with the Verizon Dare. DH also has a Verizon Dare for his personal phone and Blackberry Pearl for his work phone. If you don't need the internet/office features of the Blackberry I'd seriously take a look at the Dare. It's got great reviews and we have been very pleased with it.

What I really want is an iPhone, but since I am staying with Verizon, that obviously isn't an option.... :sad1: that is why I was heading to the Storm, or even the Omnia. My daughter just got the Voyager and she loves it.

Can you tell me about the Dare? How is for adding applications? I assume you can only add Verizon apps (that is why I was looking at the Storm or Omnia as you can add outside apps to it). How is the phone reception and the voice quality? I assume you when you add apps they all appear on the front screen? True?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.....

I would highly suggest checking out all of the Storm threads on www.crackberry.com In their forums, they have boards for all of the Blackberry models.

Keep in mind that these people are BB devotees. However, there is really good information for the good, the bad and the ugly.

I love my Verizon Blackberry 8830. I, too, thought about the Storm but I decided to wait until there is a version 2 that fixes some of the bugs.

A guy I work with bought the Blackberry Bold and that thing is SWEET! Probably more than you want to spend but it rocks.:)

DH's boss has one and hates it. When he puts it up to his ear for a call he's has the touch screen pick up things like his sideburns or part of his ear touching the screen and disconnecting cals, going into menus... DH often gets his cast offs but was told he wouldn't put anyone through getting this one.

My husband had the Voyager. He got it in late December 2007. He just got the Blackberry Curve last month as his Voyager started turning itself off, the screen got all crazy, and it wasn't functioning properly at all. And he treated that thing like a baby, believe me. So I wouldn't recommend that one. He does love the Curve.

I have a Storm - here's my take.

Bear in mind that I'm not coming from a different BB, many users on crackberry.com are and thus have a pre-formed opinion on BB "legendary"capabilities as a smartphone.

I like my Storm alot - I don't love it as I am a realist and aware that it was probably rushed out the door and that there will be some glitches...no different than buying a new car in it's first year as a new model.

There are some very helpful tips on crackberry.com that can make better use of battery life, application folders and general look and feel - there are no miracle cures - but I don't know that it needs any miracle cures. Some operating system tweaks - which are being developed and some growing pains with respect to build tolerances on the "click" screen will work themselves out in the newxt few months. Personally - I have no issue with my screen clicks - some people had issues that were easily resolved by backing the internal screw that holds the screen casing together out a 1/2 turn. Verizon is aware - RIM/ Blackberry is aware and they are working on it.

Surfing the web is great on it, the camera is great 3.2mp, video as well...I upgraded to a 16gb card instead of the 8gb. It is heavier than other BB's - but it is al relative to what you were using before...if it's your first BB and 1st touchscreen - I think you'll enjoy it. If it is being directly compared to something similar (older BB or other touchscreen) that you were very comfortable with - there will be an adjustment period.

The one good thing about Verizon is the 30 day guarantee - you don't like it you can give it back and get something else.

As for the DARE I was going to get that until the Storm hit...then it was a slam dunk to go for the BB calendar synch and email over the mobile web email within the DARE.

Good luck with your choice.
