Sort of competition for Extreme Makeover. I liked it & felt so, so sorry for the 2 women they had on. Especially the 2nd one (forgot her name), her husband was HORRIBLE to her! The poor woman needed to talk to him while she was away & he seemed mad at her. Very sad. I'm glad she won tonight, can't wait until her husband sees her now!

My DD was watching it, so I saw some of it. I thought it was sort of sad. I hope their make-overs will make them happy. They looked great, but I couldn't help but think something on the inside is not so great.

I was listening to it and felt very sorry for the woman whose husband seemed like he didn't care if he talked to her or not. If you are doing something like this you really need support. I didn't see any of the before or after shots.

I SWORE I wouldn't watch it but there it was after American Idol and, as they predicted, the lead in would keep a percentage of their viewers.

The women in this show had deeper problems than their looks. I'm glad they had a counselor in the committee because they really needed emotinoal beefing up.

They used women in their 20s, understandably because it's a time of creation and insecurity. Take it from a former swan, if they don't love themselves from the inside out because there was a core of pure love INSIDE, that outside stuff will only cause MORE problems.

If being unatrractive was a problem, wait'll they see how being suddenly attractive attracts BIGGER AND BETTER losers!

Sorry, been there, done that!

I read an article in which a counselor who was an advisor to either that show or one of the other major makeover shows talked a bit about the women. She said she knew how it would turn out for the women after the show, because it was always the same.....the women ended up miserable. It affected their whole lives in ways they would never have expected. A dramatic change such as that affected relationships with spouses. They generally lost their friends as well.

I did watch the show, and found it incredibly sad. Those women had inside issues that they seemed to blame on their appearance. Anyone can be confident, happy and fulfilled regardless of their physique. Likewise a beautiful person can be insecure and depressed. I'm not sure that radically changing their appearance will cure the emotional issues. No one is ever perfect, and for women to think their lives will be nirvana because they look different is likely to be disappointed in the long run.

I started to watch it...these women were so pitiful IMHO. Any makeover, no matter how extreme, will change these women where they need it the most....inside. I had to change the channel. I switched it back on for the last 5 min or so and it was ridiculous! I will not be tuning in to this show again! :crazy2:

OK I watched it. My thoughts:

1. Amanda Byram - same host from Paradise Hotel...she still annoys me.

2. WHY WHY WHY is this whole thing centered around a PAGEANT??? "Here - we're going to make you beatiful, then MAYBE allow to continue onto a beauty pageant if you change more than the other girl." Basically - make them pretty, then cut them up again.

3. I thought they kinda looked like drag queens when they were done. WAY too much "drama" makeup. I know that's the intended purpose of the whole show...but the poor girls new chest (Kelly's I believe?) wasjust hitting her in her new chin!

4. It's a train wreck of a show...and they really didn't show enough of the "emotional" aspect of them growing...cramming 3 months into 45 minutes or so.

But I guess I'll still watch...

Yep, build up their self esteem for 3 months, then make one of them feel unworthy again by not being good enough for the pagent.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one watching this train wreck. I guess I am drawn to total freakish mental issues these people must have.

I was a little horrified at how they put Rachel's marriage right out there for everyone to judge, right along with the plastic surgery. I felt terrible for Rachel during that excruciating phone call with her husband and had to walk away. I also felt kind of dirty for "eavesdropping" on both that and her therapy session.

Rachel ended up looking like a porn star (they both did; leave it to Fox!), but did seem to exude confidence in the end.

I'm probably not going to keep watching this. I was just interested to see how it compared to Extreme Makeover. I love a good trainwreck, but this one has too much carnage for even me.

I watched it because DH was flipping between it and the Bachelor. I have a couple thoughts. First, Kelly, the girl who didn't 'win' - way too much added on her chest. She seems to really have some emotional issues. To fix her up and then have her 'lose' something probably isn't the best thing. She appears to have great family support and her boyfriend seemed nice and cute...hopefully this will make her happier and content.
Rachel's husband seemed really rude. Maybe it was just he didn't want his conversations on tv, or he was jealous or something, but he appeared like a real jerk. Who knows though, maybe that was just the way they edited it too. I don't know if I'll keep up with this one. The pageant part is kind of stupid to me.

i couldn't help it... i watched it.

it was on right after AI. i was curious. plus, i recently read an article in EW about how Americans are tuning in to these type of "OR rubbernecking" shows.

i'm sooooo disturbed by this show.

most reality shows, the producers get the idea from some show that existed before in another country. in this case, i don't think FOX got this idea from Japan or Europe. this must be a purely American sick idea for a show.

at least it wasn't as graphic as those plastic surgery shows on MTV. i was flipping channels and saw the most disgusting graphic clips of people's bloody fat in the OR. argh!! and yes, i had to watch it. it's like horror movies. you know what you're going to see is disgusting and disturbing, but you still watch it.

btw, i've never seen Extreme Makeover. is that more or less graphic than The Swan?

Yes I watched the first 20 min and changed the channel. That was enough for me!

I rarely miss a good train wreck
last night was no exception
I didn't really care for the show??:(

The plastic surgery on MTV was to discourage young teens from having surgery so it was intended to be realistic
good for them showing kids what they need to see black and blue faces, extreme swelling, pain, pain, and more pain

don't think I'll tune into the swan again. who knows:confused:

actually, yes, i do agree with what luv2nascar says about the MTV shows. they are in a way being more responsible by actually showing the gruesome/graphic parts of plastic surgery. (and it really is gross to see)
in last night's episode of The Swan, they pretty much skip over that... making it all seem so "easy".
