Trying to pre-plan our next few Disney trips after this April/May. Trying to get 3 trips into 12 months to take advantage of our APs. But it's hard without knowing the school calendar and the school breaks. Both DDs will be in the NYC public school system next year - 1st grade and pre-k.
Trying to guess at the holidays from this year. This school year DD got 2 days off for Rosh Hashanah. Do you think the kids will get 2 days again this year? If so, they should be off 10/4/05 & 10/5/05 (Tues/Wed), as well as 10/10/05 (Mon) for Columbus Day. So if I plan a 8 night trip from 10/2/05 - 10/10/05, the kids will only miss 3 days of school. Of course Yom Kippur is on Thursday, 10/13/05, so technically, we could go 2 weeks and only miss 6 days of school but I really don't want them to miss too much.
Also, the last 2 years, school started the monday AFTER Labor Day week. Do you think they will continue this? If so, the kids will only be in class 3 weeks before they start missing a few days.
This time, we want to fly but I wouldn't want to purchare airfare until the calendar actually comes out.
Christmas is out. I assume that the kids will be off for Presidents' Week again. So that is a possibility.
Wonder about spring break. This year it is the last week of April. Last year it wasn't that week. Is there a rhyme or reason to the dates chosen? Anyone want to guess or know when it will be next year?
I thought I would have no problems pulling the kids out of school. DD6 missed A LOT of pre-k! LOL! But once she started kindergarten in elementary school, I hate to pull her out unless she is sick. There's so much going on during class and she really enjoys school and the interactions with the teachers and kids.
She already gets quite a bit of homework! I'm amazed at how fast they learn and am impressed with her work at school. She's able to read so many more books by herself and her handwriting has improved so much in just a few weeks. The teacher did complain that the kids get too much "work" to do and there is less time for just play learning. But the curiculum is much stricter do to the standardized testing in 3rd grade, so they have to "push" the kids at an earlier age. DD is a bit older, January baby, so she was ready for the extra work. I'm so glad DD6 got to play lots in pre-k!
DD6 is the nervous sort, so I don't want to make her anxious or nervous about what she could be potentially missing. So, we decided to minimize the days the kids get pulled out of school. Thus, the need for a schiool calendar!! Argghhh!
Decisions, decisions,...
Anyone in the same boat? Or can help shed some light?!!!
