Even my kid is in public school, but I have been "homeschooling" her at night.
I think she is ready for Algebra, but I am not sure which version of Saxon Math I need.

I noticed there are
a. Saxon Algebra
b. Algebra 1: An incremental Development
b. Algebra 1/2 : An Incremental Development

then I found
Saxon math Algebra 1 teacher Edition
Saxon Algebra 1 Solution Manual
Saxon Algebra 1 Kit with Solution manual
Algebra 1: An Incremental Development, Home Study Packet

based on the date of publication, it seems that Saxon Algebra is the latest version, but Algebra 1: An incremental Development is an earlier verision, true?

We used Algebra 1/2 for my homeschooled DD last year. As I understood it, Algebra 1/2 is actually like an introduction to Algebra and comes before Algebra 1 If you go to the website I mentioned, click on "Placement tests' and have your child take the placement test to figure out which course will best suit her.

As I said, my DD did Algebra 1/2 last years (8th grade). This year she is in public school for 9th and is finding that so far, Algebra 1 is not new to her.

We use Saxon math. There should be a placement test on their website to tell you which level to use.

Algebra 1/2 is pre-Algebra, which comes before Algebra 1 and then 2. There is a Geometry course but all the Geometry is covered in Algebra 1 & 2 so there's no need to purchase that course. It's published for kids who need additional help in Geometry.

The Solution Manual is all the answers to each problem, but they do NOT show you how to work them out. They now have cds which work out each problem in case you can't explain it well enough for them to understand.

You really need the book, the solution manual, and test booklet. You should be able to find them together as a kit to purchase. There are also discount online sellers for homeschoolers that will save you some $$.

I am a former math teacher. I hate to share my age, but my 9th grade Algebra I class used Saxon in the late 1980's. It happened to be the same Algebra I book used by the community college where my dad worked. To this day I swear by this book, as do several other math teachers with whom I've taught. I would strongly suggest the Saxon Algebra if you want the most complete course. If math is not your child's strong point, then get the incremental approach which will offer a better foundation (pre-algebra) as pointed out by PP. Saxon math rocks!

thanks.
I didn't realize the incremental is for pre-algebra
