Hi all - Just wondering if any of you have used the honeyfund.com site for a registry?

Since our Disney Registry doesn't work consistently, I was thinking of starting a new registry for us there. I thought this might also help us collect some money for air fare and other non-Disney expenses.

I'd love to hear about your experiences (good or bad) about honeyfund.com. Thanks!
Leah

I personally haven't used it yet (we're not official) although I have taken a look at it. I've seen tons of brides on other websites recommend it so it can't be too bad. ;)

Sorry I can't be of more help!

Good luck!

Never used it....but I sure as heck love the idea, so I just signed up for it :)

I used it for my wedding, and it worked great. I paid extra to make it look nicer, and I think it was worth it. Setting up Paypal account was easy (you don't have to do it if you don't plan to give people credit card option), and most of the guests paid using credit card. Our families and friends loved the idea, and everyone said it was easy to use the website.

The downside is, if you're using their free account, you can't attach images to each entry, and even if you pay the premier fee, they only have limited images to choose from, and you can't upload your own pictures. We had fun finding sort of matching images, though. "Mickey and Minnie Honeymoon Ears" was tough, but we chose an image of elephant, thinking the huge ears of elephant would be a good enough match :p

If you'd like a link to our website, pm me and I'll send it to you fyi ;)

Hi- thanks for the info! Sounds great!

Did Paypal or honeyfund take a percentage of your gifts though? (I have to go back and read up on how it works).

Also, did your guests send you money there for the wedding or for your shower or both? I was wondering if people would feel like they need to bring physical gifts to a bridal shower.

thanks again!

Hi :)

1) Honeyfund doesn't take any fee as long as you stick to the standard service. I preferred paying $29 to get rid of ads from our registry and have a nicer-looking website, but you can definitely do it for free if you're ok with plainer looking website with ads. Paypal takes about 3% of the gift. Since we were not sure when we can go to honeymoon, we didn't want to/couldn't use the Disney website (in fact, we married last October and are finally going go on our honeymoon this September :)). The flexibility of Honeyfund was really helpful for us. If you want to avoid any fee at all, you can just opt out the paypal/credit card option and ask the guests to pay in cash or check.

2) We didn't do a bridal shower, so I can't help you there, but I think you can ask whatever you want to your guests; it's your wedding. Most of our guests didn't bring any physical gifts on the wedding date, but paid through the paypal to our account before the wedding at their convenience, and some brought cards on the wedding day, which was really sweet. I also enjoyed the coupon and the message they can send together with their gift payment.

I was worried about this unconventional gift registry, so we did ask around our family, friends, and relatives first to see if they are comfortable. But since we were already living together before our wedding, it made the most sense to do it this way. We also told them no gift is fine, since it was a distant wedding, but surprisingly, thanks to our generous guests, the gift we got will cover our one week honeymoon, staying at Grand Floridian, and we're really grateful :goodvibes

Thank you so much for the great info! I thought Paypal would get a percentage, so we will have to weigh the benefits of that.

Its great to hear from someone who used this and had success with it! It's also great that you were able to stay at the GF! :lovestruc

Thanks again!

I was in the same situation where I really didn't want "stuff" since we recently moved in together and I feel like I have stuff coming out my ears.

I was digging around and found this site that I ended up using as one of our registries, Upon our Star (www.uponourstar.com) and it worked FANTASTIC! I was able to put all kinds of things on there for not only our honeymoon, but even our house we just bought together! People were more than happy to invest in our "future" and I think they appreciated the easy way to get the gift out of the way.

In the end you just cash out and get the money, which was what we really wanted, it was a nice way to end all the wedding spending!!

Thank you thank you thank you so much for posting about Upon Our Star. We have been looking for a registry exactly like this because we too are saving for a house. We are trying to have a bare bones wedding (as bare as you can have at Disney) and no honeymoon because all our extra money goes towards buying a house, which is nearly impossible for the average person in Los Angeles. :rolleyes1

Thank you again for sharing. :hippie:
