Anyone use Alli? Does it work?

I am trying to lose the last 5 stubborn pounds and they will not BUDGE! I'm just about ready to try Alli, even though I'm probably swatting a housefly with a 2 by 4 - - has anyone tried this? Does it work? Does it have nasty side effects (harken back to the Olestra fiasco... ewwww!)? And probably most important, do you keep the weight off once you've reached your goal and stop taking Alli? Or do you have to keep taking it to maintain your goal weight?

Thanks for any input!

I've never used it (and never will), but I wanted to suggest looking at what you've been eating... My Weight Watchers leader suggested that when you hit a plateu, it might be because you've gotten into a rut in what you eat - your body gets used to the same calorie intake each day, and doesn't process it well.

The last 5 pounds are tough! But you can lose them - I just reached my goal weight after 1.5 years!

I tried Alli a few months ago. I lost a lot of weight quickly, but then stopped losing. My brother lost around 70 pounds taking it. You have to be really careful about what you eat or there ARE side effects.

I have been using SlimShots for the past few weeks. NO side effects at all and I am losing the weight slowly. It just helps you to pay attention to what you are eating and stop when you get full.

Good luck!!

I'm going to move this over to the W.I.S.H. Forum. There are some great people over there who can offer advise and motivation to help you with your weightloss goals.

Alli is basicaly a dumbed down version of Xenical. Like Xenical, Alli works by binding to any fat or oil you eat and stopping your body from absorbing it. It doesn't stay in your system long, so you have to keep taking it for it to keep working. It HAS SIDE EFFECTS! It can interfere with the absorption fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, K, and (sorry this is totaly gross but you asked) Changes in your bowel function frequently occur because of the unabsorbed fat. Fatty/oily stool, oily spotting, intestinal gas with discharge, a feeling of needing to have a bowel movement right away, increased number of bowel movements, or poor bowel control may occur. These side effects will get worse if you eat more fat than you should.

You drink 2 shots a day, with your 2 largest meals. They taste like vanilla, but I have to chase it with something to mask the flavor. The main ingredients are palm oil and oat oil. When you take it with your meal, it just fills you up faster, and you eat less. For some reason, it works!

Arghh, the dreaded bowel side effects. Gag, just like Olestra...

I know undereating isn't doing the trick, about the only thing left is muscle building to stoke my calorie burning furnace. I was hoping to cancel the gym membership to save $120/mo - - any suggestions for weight lifting at home that doesn't involve a lot of space or $$$?

Where can you buy slim-shots at?
TIA:)
:cheer2:

Slim shots are essentially the shangri-la diet that you are buying in nifty packages.

I have tried Alli and believe it or not it messed me up reverse of what it warns against! My very regular self just stopped going! I am painfully regular and I did not go for 3 days! And I never felt the urge to go either. I kinda felt that cant be good for me and stopped taking them.

I bought them in a moment of desperation and weakness (and tried the shangri-la diet at some point as well). Truth is (as we all know) gimmicks will never work. It is a pipe dream to believe it them. Eat lees, move more and talk to a nutritionist when a plateau lasts more then a few weeks. :smokin:

Oh, I hadn't heard of SlimShots before! Instead, a couple of times I've purchased a product from England called SlimThru. I have found Slimthru to be helpful, but having it shipped in from England has been very expensive and inconvenient, so I haven't been taking it often.

I just did a Google search for SlimShots, and it seems to be the same product as SlimThru. The active ingredient ("Fabuless," which is made by a company called DSM ) is the same in both, but for an American like me, it's much cheaper to buy SlimShots than to import SlimThru from England.

It seems that SlimFast now has a product, "HungerShots", that contains the same active ingredient, but it seems to only be available in England so far.

The website for Slimshots says, "SlimShots™ have been sold around the world for years and is clinically proven." However, I don't think it's true that it's been "sold around the world for years." I think it was offered in a couple of European countries starting in 2007. I do think it's probably safe, though.

Anyway, I am thrilled to find this product in the US!!!! :cloud9: :disrocks:
Thanks so much for posting about this!!!!

Edited to add: It looks like the active ingredient has been available since 1996 in Europe, but only as an additive to yogurt, not as a stand-alone supplement. I'm not sure how high the dosage was for the yogurt additive. It looks like the stand-alone product has been available in France since 2006. Here is a site with more information:

Anyone know how long SlimShots has been available in the US? The earliest annoucement I can find of it was from just a few weeks ago.
