Anyone trying Tiana's Palace today?

Went yesterday. Mobile order slots were gone before park opening. Waited about 75 minutes in line at lunchtime.

Beignets are cold - filling is yummy but actual beignet with glaze is bad texture.

Kids meals are fine, chicken drumstick was TINY though. Baked mac & cheese was a hit with one kid and a miss with the other.

Muffuletta sandwich is good, bottom was soggy but otherwise this was the best thing we ate. Shrimp and grits fine. Kinda gluey.

Cornbread was fine but also cold like it just came from a fridge. If it was warm, we’d have liked it better.

Cold brew was fine. Had to stir a lot with a spoon to mix cream in.

Overall it was fine but nothing to write home about. Theming is cute and Tiana was walking around dining area in her new outfit a few times.

My new favorite place to eat at DLR! (But not hubby's favorite.)

We visited yesterday, stand-by (~20 minute wait, 2P) and today, also stand-by with similar ~20 wait at 11a. Mobile order spots were fully taken before park opening.

Yesterday we ordered the following, served on the standard plates and enjoyed in the attached dining patio space:
  • House Gumbo, mine: Excellent! Could have been a slightly larger portion -- but the flavor was excellent and it contains plenty of protein. Very satisfying! (I added two packets of Tabasco sauce ... just because I like it that way.)
  • Muffuletta Sandwich, hubby's: somewhat small (not a sharable!). Good but what he really raved about were the included sides: The Housemade Pickles and the Red beans & Rice.
  • One House-Filled Beignet, shared: The lemon filling is a nice flavor but the overall product is disappointing. The beignet itself is great (authentic) but it is covered in glaze or granular sugar -- not powdered sugar -- and the overall product gets really chewy and clammy after sitting for awhile as you eat your meal. We might try this again sometime when we can mobile-order just the Beignet and eat it hot with coffee?? Then again, I could skip the filling altogether ... so Beignets might have to wait for a visit to the Jazz Kitchen Express.
  • Corn bread, shared: OK, but no need to do this again. I'd rather have a chunk of French bread for dipping into my Gumbo??
Today we tried the following, served in "To-Go" packaging and taken clear over in Tomorrowland before eating:
  • 7 Greens Gumbo with the Chicken and Andouille Sausage, mine: Excellent! Again, I dumped two packets of Tabasco before even trying it and it was awesome -- even better than yesterday. Loved the veggies!
  • Beef Po-Boy Sandwich, hubby's: A very large portion of food! However ... it didn't rate well with the hubby. He complained that the bread tasted like a hot-dog roll and fell apart quickly. (This might have been my fault -- it was packaged to go and had to be carried clear across the park before eating. The break might have gotten soggy before eating it ... so, again, this issue may have been my fault. Better to eat this while fresh ... right?) I tasted the meat and liked it well enough ... hubby didn't like how it combined with the mayo. Again, the included sides were his highlight. Turns out we both loved the Red Beans & Rice!
  • Side dish of Red Beans and Rice, shared: Yep, we like them enough to order an extra side to share. Yummy!
  • Side dish of the Cheesy Grits, shared: Ummmm, no thanks. They are quite satisfying (filling) but too heavy for us. We both said, "We don't like the cheese ...." My personal history with grits: I love them ... but mostly as a breakfast side served with butter, salt & pepper.
  • A loaf of Sourdough bread from Boudins (DCA), sliced, with butter, shared: Awesome. A much needed element for dipping into the Gumbo and scraping the plate ... yummy, yummy, yummy.
So going forward, we'll grab a sliced loaf of Sourdough from one park ... and bring it back to Tiana's so we can better enjoy her Gumbo recipes (both bases) and the Red Beans and Rice. Yes! Great plan!

Edited to add: While we didn't try the Shrimp & Grits -- I saw quite a few. It is a good size portion with more shrimp than I had expected. It would be very filling!

Editing again to add: I found that I'm not a fan of the "cafeteria" system (slow, confusing, and slightly annoying). I'd rather mobile order ... and will likely not visit again until Mobile Order becomes the default.

We went to the park for a few hours to get the MK MB+. We saw that the line for Tiana's wasn't too long so we decided to wait it out. We got in line about 9:45 am. The restaurant opens at 10 am and were sitting down eating at 10:30 am.

I really appreciated the attention to details

We ordered the 7 Greens Gumbo and Po Boy sandwich. I agree that, while the Po Boy, looked like a lot, it really didn't taste all that good. Too much mayo and too difficult to eat. I did, enjoy the sides of rice, beans & sausage and pickle salad. I had heard that the beignet was a disappointment so we skipped it. The cornbread was better than I expected. The servings were large for the price paid.

I would definitely go back again and try other items.

The sun cover and jazz music creates a nice ambiance. I'm not a big fan of The Princess and the Frog, but I think the new theme really adds a lot to New Orleans Square.

It all looked so beautiful. However, it rained the night before and parts of the covering looked like this. I wonder how often they will clean it, or if it will quickly start to look run down.

The 7 Greens Gumbo was very good. I also thought the cornbread was a nice sized serving for $3.99. I also liked the pickle salad and rice/beans/sausage sides.

I wouldn't say that I disliked the sandwich. The sandwich was okay, but not as good as it looks in pictures. I think it was the bread and mayo. In my picture above, you can see that they have the rolls on a tray - pre-loaded with mayo, tomato, pickles and lettuce. When a guest orders the sandwich, they add the meat. I'm thinking that pre-loading the roll is what makes it softer. Also, there was so much meat that it was difficult fold and eat as a sandwich. It would be a good fork and knife sandwich.

Edit to add a zoomed in image of the pre-loaded rolls as well as the plated dishes. As I mentioned earlier, the servings were quite large for the price. Definitely sharable.

Two ppl disliked a sandwich. That's not really the same thing. My sibling dislikes the Monte Cristo, doesn't mean it's a bad sandwich.

I'm like your sibling! I tried it because it seemed to be the thing to do, but I'm like... oh, I just don't think I'm a Monte Cristo person. It is great if you like it, but it's not for me.

But as far as reviews of Tiana's so far, they've been mostly positive from what I can see. The only things I've seen that's gotten mixed reviews has been the Po Boy, the beignet and the mac and cheese. Some good, some bad, on all three of those items, so it likely depends on personal taste and also the freshness, etc. of the item in that moment.

The reviews for the shrimp and grits (probably the #1 item on the menu), gumbo, cornbread, muffaletta have been overwhelmingly positive from what I've seen. (I haven't seen a lot of people try the chicken, but the few that I did said it was good and not dry or anything.)

I'll be in the parks on Friday, Saturday & Sunday this weekend, so I'm hoping for at least ONE meal at Tiana's while I'm there. I don't do shrimp, but the gumbo and cornbread is calling my name.

Mobile ordering had their own seating area next to the mobile order window. They were not allowed to bring food into the fenced off area. They also had a cast member shooing away people with beignets who wanted to sit at a table.

I'm hoping I'm able to get some shrimp and grits in a couple weeks when I'm there.
