Anyone that has had children taking claritin...

Has it worked for you?
DD seems to have an on going problem with nasal drips and allergies, the doctor today wanted to give me Zyrtec to try to help her with her cough caused by her post nasal drip, but when she found out what my co-pay is , she told me to get her over the counter claritin.
The last couple of years she has had a lot of allergy problems on and off , she has had blood tests and nothing came back abnormal.
How has it worked for you?

My 14DD uses Claritan seasonally for allergies and it is a wonder drug for her. She was on it from April to October and never had a problem with her allergies during that time.

MY DD11 takes it as needed during the spring. It works fantastic on her!

I think my entire family has used it at some point. Works okay but now it is more expensive than our co-pay so would rather have something else. You might also ask about Flonase or another nasal spray. They can be more effective on sinus allergy problems.

My DD takes it and it works wonders for her. I buy her the Costco generic tablets--I think I paid $16 for 90 days supply. It sure beat the $45 copay I have for my DS's Allegra. He tried Claritin but it upset his stomach and made him feel shaky. I also take claritin and find that it works great for me--no side effects.

If the Claritin doesn't work, then try the Zyrtec. Good luck!

I started taking it around age 10. It worked fine for awhile, but I've become immune to it, it really doesn't work as well as it used to.

Could be cause I took it year round every day. I'm now on a fun little coctail of medicines, lol.

I've had kids on it from about age 3 up. If your child is small, the dose is 5 mg. If they can swallow a pill, the tablets are 10 mg. They break in half easily and you get twice as much for the money. I buy the generic Loratidine.

It worked better for my DD than Zyrtec. Zyrtec worked better for me. Allergies are a lot of trial and error.

Our doctor just put DS on Claritin for two months. We don't really notice him having an allergy problems but he does get dark circles under his eyes (even after 14 hours sleep/day) and apparently his sinus cavities (or something up there in his nose) makes the dr. think it is bad allergies even without the runny nose/eyes.

So far I have not noticed a difference but then again he never really had too many problems with runny noses, etc.

DD and myself are both on Zyrtec. (nice and expensive) I can't take anything else and also have to take Flonase. It works for DD, but when the season changes, her allergies are the worse.

DS & I both took Claritin - it seemed to work on the allergies. However I stopped taking it & giving it to my son due to the side effects we both experienced. 1st it knocked me out for a couple of hours at a time. DS actually fell asleep at his desk in school. The worst thing is the effect it had to on our moods. I was very edgy & short tempered. DS was too. He is normally very mild mannered - ignores his brothers attempts to aggrevate. DS became aggressive - not just verbally but also physically. We switched to Zyrtec. It seems that we were the exception, but just watch for behavioral changes.

our DS15 took it for about a year...it stopped working for him and now he is taking perscription Allergan(sp?) and is working GREAT!

It works for DH, but it makes DS6 jumpy and hyper. We prefer the Zyrtec.
