Anyone "stock up" on AP's or other tickets?

I still have hopper tickets left for a future trip or two for my family, but knowing that the ticket prices are about to go up, I am debating whether to purchase 2 AP's with the DVC discount or 2 MYW 10 day no expiration hopper passes for my DH and I to use in the future. My oldest is in college and the other three are following within the next several years. I wouldn't really need the tickets until 2007 or 2008, depending.

Does it make sense to spend the money now? Do any of you do this? Am I correct in assuming that the AP voucher could be held "indefinitely"?

We just purchased MYW Premium 10 Day Passes w/ no expiration, we can park hop and get the 5 extra options of the water parks, DQ, etc. We go to 2 maybe 3 parks/year and we only go once a year, but will be making a late January trip in 2008 so my youngest can fully experience everything and not have to fight the crowds or wait in long lines. We got the tickets to avoid the price increase and also to save $$ in the long haul. We paid a total of $1412 for 3 adults and 1 child and we basically got 10 Park and 5 water park/DQ admissions. We don't need to see every park every year. It saved us alot of $$, but we had to pay up front. We know we'll be going anyway. My sister might do it as well. AP's wouldn't work for us since we only go once a year and even if we scheduled a another trip right before they expired it still comes out cheaper for us getting the MYW 10 day Premium tickets..and we wouldn't be going to every park.

are AP's going up soon? i need to go check that out. i was planning on getting a voucher in the summer for our dec '06 trip so i wouldn't have to pony up the $$ so close to xmas.

IMHO, it isn't worth it to buy tickets now. If you tie up your funds in future tickets, you do save the cost of the potential increase(s). But you also lose the interest you would get by putting that money in a savings account and you also lose the flexibility of using that money for something else if necessary.

Judging by past increases, I don't think it makes much sense to buy tickets that I wouldn't use for over a year. JMHO. YMMV

Best wishes -

We did the same thing. We dont visit all the parks every trip so AP's would change the way we tour. We purchased the 10 day NO EXP w Hopping and Plusses. We figure we will get at least 3 years out of our passes, when we combine our AP's for WP and DQ.

We are a family of five - I have a few ph passes from previous trips that have a day or a plus on each of them or two plusses. No expiration and anyone of us can use them. This summer I bought 3 - 10 day MYW tickets with 5 plusses. I know we can get two trips out of them. I am not sure if I will buy two more (so we can each have a set) or two PAPs. I also still don't know who will be using what yet with this new fingerscan thing. We shall see in August. With DVC and having tickets for three of us, half my trip will be taken care of.

I did it...I wasted the money on a PAP (forgetting I had 5 leftover plusses) instead of an AP this year. I broke even on it by going to DQ twice, PI and a waterpark but without the PAP I probably would have skipped the water park and possibly the second DQ trip. PAP isn't over yet so I might do a trip on the fly before 01/14/06.

In any case I figure my trips after MLKing 2006 will be only a day or two in the parks until the next big celebration comes along. My 10 day pass should easily cover at least 3 trips because I will have 10 plusses and 10 days.

Thanks, CarolMN, for the reality check, really. You probably are correct, but my bank's interest rate stinks right now. My husband laughs at me because I always call any of my purchases "investments". I would feel a little guilty giving Disney almost $700 for something for the future, but I would try to look at it like an investment :-) Plus, charging it on my Disney Visa, I would get rewards, too.

Does anyone know how much ticket prices are expected to increase? MYW or AP?

Thanks for all the replies.

Whenever we have the need to purchase tickets, we always buy the 7 day no exp. park hoppers. We get about 3 years out of them. I like knowing that our tickets are always taken care of and I do have a certain spot that I keep them in. I like knowing that our visits to the parks average about $25. I would spend the extra $ and buy a 10 day ticket, if they gave more plus options on them.
