Sometimes it seems like I just go from one habit to another with just spells of being good here and there.

Erica and I both smoked for many many years. I finally quit for good when I turned 50 and Erica a few months after I did. I have finally gotten to the point that a cigarette doesn't interest me anymore. Erica can't stand the smell of them anymore.

Now we both fight with a food habit. Especially in the evening when I get home. I will do really good for a while then go through spells where I want junk, things like hot pockets and other high fat processed foods. We try to keep things like nuts and fruit around but we both slip, ice cream calls our name often.

I don't have any trouble getting out and getting my miles in, but for Erica it's harder.

Does anyone else feel this way? Like you are helpless sometimes to resist a temptation?

In addition to my bad eating habits, lack of exercise and, some say, among other things, ability to take everything to extremes, I also have a nasty chewing tabacco (Skoal) habit that I've tried to kick but only seems to get worse. I've been doing it since college. As you can tell, instead of me kicking one bad habit and switching to another, I just keep adding them. As I try to get things straightened out, I still haven't figure out if I should try to tackle them one at a time or all at once (but then I fear sever toxic withdrawal symptoms).

I'm sounding more and more like a prize each day, don't I. And yes to all those wondering, I do thank God (almost) everyday for my great wife of over 18 years. And they said our marriage wouldn't last. Ha!

Dave congrats to you and Erica for kicking the smoking habit that is wonderful:grouphug: ...yummy ice cream that is Mike's fav....lol

Patsbill: Isn't it wonderful having a supportive loving spouse. Good luck to you for kicking your habits. I would think giving up too many bad habits at one time would just be too hard but only you know what you can do but I wish you all the PD in the world:wizard:

I would say my worst habit is pepsi....Hi My name is Kim and I am a pepsi -aholic...who apparently can't spell:confused3 :rotfl: i have kicked the habit for 5 months before and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be but of couse I thought I could just have some once and a while but nope not for me. So I will have to kick this habit again. Also is making bad food choices, I am a fast food junkie, love my carbs etc.....

This is a great thread Dave interested in what everyone has to say on the topic.

This is an easy one. Switch to Diet Coke. Its much better than Pepsi anyway (IMHO). As I previously said in another thread, it must be the best because its what's served at WDW. I am sure Disney receives no financial benefit, that it is just done to keep the paying customers happy.

OK, so I'm not totally sure this counts, but my worst habit is putting things off until "later." It's not really procrastination in the sense of putting off something I don't want to do (that stuff is what I use to keep from doing what I want to do) but it's putting off things I want to do for a variety of reasons all related to some form of fear usually. So I'll actually do the yucky stuff -- clean, laundry, mow the lawn, etc. in order to avoid doing the things I know I can do and want to do.

I'm trying to get better and "just do it" but I still find myself slipping and saying "I'll do it some other time." I've got to get in the habit of just going for stuff and getting past that whole fear thing.

I know, it's probably not a "habit" like y'all are talking about but it's the biggest obstacle I have these days. I conquered my weight ten years ago and have kept it off, I never smoked or drank, I always loved exercise, and I don't bite my nails, LOL. Although there are times when I trade a good nail biting habit for my procrastination habit!

Food (specifically sugar) is the enemy.

My "bad habit" is consuming too many empty calories. I am combating that by swearing off any sugared drinks. I am also trying to wean myself off of artificial sweeteners, but unsweetened coffee or tea? U-G-H.

Instead of candy or snacks, I but a 3 pound bag of frozen blueberries every few days and eat those instead. 70 Calories / cup & lots of antooxidants.

Have been REASONABLY successful, but only time will tell in the long term.................

Hello, my name is Lily and I too am a food-aholic. :scared1:

I get to where I am "almost" proud to be food/fitness-wise then I fall in a hole and sabotage myself. I cannot seem to understand that resistance thing. I never had to worry about weight and eating healthy when younger for I had the best of everything, good genes to keep me thin and a Mom who provided healthy balanced meals. Forward to now where the aging thing has taken over and metabolism slowed with the age going faster and I find I have no idea how to reach down deep and make it work for me.

Food is comfort and I am trying to break that habit. I need to eat to live not live to eat.

Congratulations to you Dave and Erica for quitting.

Best WISHes to those that need that extra push to beat theirs. Never give up, keep on keepin' on.

I'm happy you and Erica decided to join us, it's been very enjoyable reading your posts! I'm trying to stop my addiction of snacking.....I quit drinking in 1989, I quit smoking 18 yrs. ago and now my biggest challenge is to stop my poor eating habits and get healthy! I must say that the :cheer2: team has motivated me more than Jenny Craig! ha,ha,ha:hippie:

Food has always been my downfall. I have lost 65 pounds the last two years, but I am currently fighting the "Munchie Monster". The last month or so I can't seem to control my eating! When will the madness end???:confused3

I have this same issue. Although I quit Jan. 1st every year and usually last 5 or so months. My problem comes when I start doing yard work and being outside alot. If you are interested in stoppping I strongly recommend this http://www.mintsnuff.com/ it is made from real mint leaves and that's it. It's better then gum and such and there is no suger involved.
