Anyone still take an occasional non-points WDW trip?

For some reason I'd really like to try one of the all-inclusive packages sometime (to go and not think about the cost of anything....)...like for a quick weekend trip, but the sensible part of me says "add on with DVC".....so, are there any DVCer's out there who still do cash trips for one reason or another?

A weekend at PO-R on the Deluxe Magic Plan is like $3000! That could be 40 points....but then again it only covers the room (okay...so its for 40 years) Quite a quandary!

We live relatively close (an hour and a quarter away from Disney) and like to take many weekend trips. We like to use our points for longer trips (4 or 5 days up to 10 days) and some weekends, and stay at a moderate for most weekends (Thurs -Sun or Fri-Sun) we go. Plus we like to stay at some of the different resorts on property from time to time (we still pine away for our longer trips at DVC resorts!). We do cash because it would be way to expensive (points wise) to stay at a moderate. The points for 3 weekend nights at a moderate alomost comes out to a week at a DVC resort (depending on time of year). Plus there are usually good discounts on the resorts at different times of year (FL resident, AP, DC discounts). Would much rather use the points for our 10 day trips (that usually include 4 weekend nights, so Rich, not all of us with smallish contracts (250 pts) avoid weekends like the plague). I hope I didn't ramble too much

Maybe this is a Florida resident thing. We go when there is a special for Florida Residents and we pay cash. Sometimes, it just makes more sense. DH and I go up twice a year without the kids, and never use our points for those trips. I'd love to be able to add on more points, but we just can't afford it right now.

My husband and I still would like to try all of the Disney resorts and plan on extending one trip a year with cash ressies for a couple of nights, hopefully with an upsell or AP discount. As far as booking a package, no we probably would not.

This year we are paying cash for 2 of our three trips. I just bought more points today so hopefully I am just a little closer to no more cash trips.

We pay cash sometimes! We're going to WDW for 2 weeks april 28 - may 12, staying at BWV w/points, and then paying cash for polynesian lagoon view for the last 3 nights w/an AP rate!!!

Then we're going in July for 4 nights, staying at the YC with an upsell rate!!

Then we'll go in September for a weeks on points! Right now we're booked at OKW, we may try to change to BWV or VWL if we can!! :0

Okay...I guess I really am goofy considering a package. I priced it out and even with budgeting $300 a day for food (2 adults, a 6yo and a 1yo...that's alot of $ for food!) the package is still overpriced.

I do think next year when we have our AP's and might be living in NC (half the drive!) we might go for Star Wars weekends on cash...and perhaps before then we'll do a add on too! We do still want to try some of the non-DVC hotels and it seems more sensible to pay cash for those, especially on weekends. We've never tried PO, and would like to try AKL...plus we love the Poly

Well, I just closed in December and I'm taking my first trip on banked points in August and I'm staying at the AKL for 10 days after but paying cash. Stupid I know but my friend and I are splitting the cost. My sister, her DD and I are going for the long Memorial Day weekend and we're paying cash - again because we're splitting it and my sister is insisting we stay at PO. I refuse to use my points for PO! I think I may wind up being a "banker"! Actually, since I'm single, I plan on just using my points so when my sisters and the gang want to go all together, it won't cost them anything. That's why I joined really. So, yes, I am a member who takes trips for cash.

So far we haven't stayed anywhere but BWV (our home)on points. But we will be paying cash for an upcoming stay at VB. Our BWV points are all commited and paying cash to Disney will be less expensive than renting points. I want to see what VB is like before I even think about talking to my DH about more points, even though I'm positive I will love VB! (LOL).

I ran into a couple at WDW recently who were there on one of those all inclusive plans. They paid big bucks for 5 nights, all meals (3 adults, 1 child). Something like $4000+, and they were staying at a moderate. Anyway, I met the sister outside the Star Tours. After telling me all of this, she stated that they were going to dinner at Sci Fi. Go figure. At those prices, it would have been the Brown Derby for me.

Hmmm, Minnesota - New York. Sounds like the perfect relationship!

I took a trip last month with friends, one is a Disney Store Castmember. She got us a 50% off room at Coronado, cost about $150 each for 4 nights (4 of us, 2 per room, we lucked out and got connecting rooms)!

last september, i couldn't get the last 2 nights of my trip (only booked it 2 months out due to work snafus), so i got an ap rate at the wl because the 2 teens i was taking didn't want to stay at okw.

DD (9) and I are going alone one week after we return from the Magic with the whole family and we are staying at the AllStar Movies. We did the sme thing last year and had a ball. :) We have 4 kids so I save points for the cruise and two bedrooms.

In October, we'll be doing a combination trip. We'll be there for 8 days total...the first 5 days will be at WLV, where we're using points. the last 3 days will be at AKL, where we'll be paying cash.

We do this all the time. We love our DVC and have been members since it opened, but we also love staying at other resorts. We sometimes do a combination, for example this August we are staying at Vero on a cash ressie, AKL because it's new and we want to see it, and then on to OKW. Our total trip will be 17 nights. We usually do at least one more trip a year and most times stay in different resorts on cash ressies. While I realize this won't work for some people, it is perfect for us!!

every October for a conference at the Dolphin/Swan/Y&BC. It gives me a chance to stay at some different resorts, which I like to do. Other than that, it is all points, primarily at BWV. We love it there.

I shouldn't say I pay cash, my company does!
