I stayed there for 3 nights last month. Overall, I had a good experience, but it was a little hit or miss at times. If you take a look at the reviews on tripadvisor[dot]com, you'll see that the majority of the recent postings about the RP all agree on one thing: the service needs a bit of work. But, this is understandable I suppose given it is essentially a "new" hotel with a new staff.
When I was there last month, the lobby area and the common areas in the floor hallways looked a little bare, but I'm sure they just hadn't finished getting in all of the furniture. The restaurant is open for sit-down breakfast and dinner - counter-service to-go available the rest of the time. The lounge is open late afternoon to around midnight or so. I found the food quality at the restaurant to be so-so for breakfast and average for dinner. Both the restaurant and lounge were a graveyard when I was there.
The rooms are the best part. Good-sized with nice furnishings. Unfortunately, the balconies are so small you can barely stand on them, but this is a moot point because the sliding glass doors only open about 6", making it impossible to stand on the balcony. The beds are great!
Housekeeping and maintenance were good and very polite. Front-desk check-in was my biggest complaint. It seems they overbook, especially the tower king rooms. It took me three tries before I got the room I paid for. I had to wait for the front-desk shifts to change to get someone different. If you're persistent and polite they'll do their best to help and remedy the situation.
My recommendations are to get a room facing Hotel Plaza Blvd. or the neighboring Doubletree hotel. The other less-favorable views are of I-4 and the under construction Holiday Inn. Each side of the hotel has five rooms on it (except for the front side which only has four). The "middle" room on each floor is usually the largest room on the floor, with extra room in the bathroom and main living area. That "middle" room features a bathroom with a bathtub and stand-up shower. I believe these rooms are the rooms that offer the king-sized bed. I would also skip the hotel restaurant in the morning as their buffet, in my opinion, is not a good deal.
Hopefully any remaining construction is completed and the staff have had some more experience to iron out those pesky wrinkles a new hotel is plagued with. Have a great trip!
