Has anyone stayed at Shades of Green?

Is there a link to rates for different seasons of the year? Do they have good reasonably priced restaurants? I thought I read somewhere that you can get military rate passes also?

I have always rented someones points for the January trips but I'm looking at trimming costs and since I'm retired from the military thought I'd look into the Shades of Green.

Thanks.

I have not stayed at SOG but I understand that you get a great deal there. You do not however get the DME or some of the really nice perks like that. You may have access to great park admission deals that my SIL was able to use for the family last January. Everyone in the family must show an ID and sign a form at the time of pass purchase. I am not 100% sure but I think the passes were active military.

AllEars.net has a great writeup about the resort as well as photos and a review of the food stuff.

Note that on race day morning you will need to walk to the Poly Monorail station (1/4 mile warmup) to get to the race.

me me! pick me! ha ha. Yes, just stayed there for the Princess 1/2. It's a great deal. Not All Stars deal but the location is great (just walking distance to the Poly), the rooms are great (decent size), and it's very nice. The price depends on rank, so if you're a young military member you won't pay as much as, let's say, a higher grade. The pools are decent. There are coffee shops and a great restaurant or two. We usually walked to the Poly to catch the monorail to get to the TTC or to the MK/Epcot. Most of the busses go only to the TTC, so that can be a pain depending on your schedule. We have gotten taxi's to get to downtown disney just for convenience.
The tickets there are military discounted or FL rates, so that's a bonus too. The restaurants are run thru MWR, so the food can be "fair" but not top of the line.
I hope this helps!:)

We usually stay at Shades. There aren't different seasons like the Disney resorts. The price is based on your pay grade or the pay grade when you retired. I think we're up to $135 a night - my DH is retired officer. The rooms are some of the largest on Disney property. Two queen beds and a sofa bed. Nice patio or balcony and HUGE bathroom. One of the cleanest resorts. Everyone is polite and a little more respectful of others when compared to Disney resorts.

The transportation isn't too bad. It runs on a time schedule so as long as you can be at a stop by a certain time, you're good. If not, use the Poly transportation. It's a short walk between the two resorts and the Poly has a special path for us.

The food is nothing to write home about. We usually eat at the parks and one night at the Kona Cafe at the Poly.

Thank you. Does anyone know if there is a rate chart somewhere?

Dave:hippie:

Thank you. That rate chart was just what I was looking for. I wanted to stay for about 8 to 10 days in January so now I know what to budget for.

We stayed at SOG for the first time during Jan. Marathon Weekend. We were pleasantly surprised! It was super convenient for my Mom who was watching DD for us to walk to the sidewalk and watch the runners. We were able to stop and chat for a minute!
The room size was fantastic! We had already made reservations for Hilton Bonett Creek for after the half marathon, and we really missed the larger room that SOG provided! My husband, DD and I extended our vacation, and decided to go back to Shades of Green.

The tickets discounts are great. The rooms have a fridge, and overall, I'd definitely recommend! Oh, and we didn't have any problems with being able to drive to Epcot for the race (5K or Half Marathon), but, as previously pointed out by someone else, our plan was to take the Poly monorail to Epcot if the roads were already closed.

No, only the person buying the tickets has to show an ID ~ including the special deal they are running on passes. I am a military spouse and I bought the tickets for DH, myself, and our adult children who no longer have IDs. The kids were also able to buy stuff in the AAFES store without an ID although I am not sure if they asked for their resort ID (which you will get at check-in).

We were just there a couple of weeks ago and had a great time :)

We have stayed a few times. The resort can not be beat for price if you are comparing it to rack rate Disney during peak. We are stayin Easter week for $135 a night as compared to WL for $420 :rotfl2: seriously?

The resort also has a breakfast buffet package where it comes out to around $10 a person. If you decide to book, be sure to book early.

I don't want to give incorrect information, but I am pretty sure they had a special for the marathon this past year. If you look on their website they do run specials.

The resort location is great as others have said- an easy walk to the Poly. You can not get ME or the Disney Dining plans while staying there, but you do get Extra Magic Hours.

No special deals here for the Princess 1/2. :confused3
