Anyone shop ALDI?

We have one a couple of miles from us... I stop there weekly. We've probably been shopping there for two or three years now; we always stop there first, then on to Wegman's for whatever we're missing on the list. They always seem to be adding new items.

:thumbsup2 to Wegmans! We used to live in Rochester, now 45 min away in Batavia and man, oh man do I miss Wegmans!

To OP. We used to shop there, it does save money, but we have to drive all the way across town to get there, so it's just not worth the hassle for us. Some stuff is ok, some stuff not. Imo, stay away from their breads and bagels. My step-dad does all the shopping at my parents house, but not the eating of the bagels and I remember in high school that they were really gross.

The produce for the most part is fine, all dry goods, the cheese was ok. It really is a good value, but like I said, it's a good 15 min to get there for us and we already go to 2 stores, I can't add a 3rd. If it was close or on my way somewhere that I went regularly, I would totally add it to my list.

I noticed that a lot of you mentioned the prices on the milk. Some states (not all) actually regulate the minimum price of milk. I live in PA, and a gallon of 2% milk is typically around $3.60 to $3.80, regardless of where you shop.

That's what we were paying 2 years ago for milk. I was pg w/ DD and drinking milk like crazy. $10 of our $60/wk grocery budget went to milk. Insane. The prices dropped drastically here. We pay $1.68 a gallon now. So strange how they fluctuate like that. Are you in a metropolitan area?

We go through a gallon of milk every day (DS drinks it like water), so we spend right around $100 a month on milk. :scared1:

I live about an hour from Pittsburgh, but that doesn't affect the price of milk. Pennsylvania regulates the price of milk to protect the dairy farmers, so in turn, we have to pay a premium price for it. So it doesn't matter if we buy milk at the regular grocery store, Aldi, or a convenience store...it's always the same price, give or take a few cents.

I keep reminding myself that milk is really no more expensive than pop...and I'd rather have my family drink milk. We don't buy pop at all, so I guess the money balances out in the end.

About Aldi...I forgot to mention before, I love their various cheeses. Also, their fresh garlic bread (in a foil bag) is the best I have ever bought.

Aldi's was the only reason we survived our first six months of married life. 19 and 20 with DH barely out of Navy bootcamp in North Chicago on our own for the first time, and SO BROKE!! We do remember it fondly 14 years later. Thank you Aldi's!!

MIlk in my nearby Aldi's is $2.49, if I drive about 20 min farther the milk is $179. I asked why and they said that the 2nd Aldi's is right next to Walmart and they have to lower the prices to compete with Walmart. I have been taking the drive to the farther Aldi's because everything you can find at Walmart is marked lower at Aldi's next door from chips to snacks to cereal, even the frozen foods.
Next time you go try the Sweet Potato Casserole in the frozen foods section. It has a praline crust. Bake in the microwave. YUM!!! It tastes like dessert. Even my fussy grandson at this.
I do agree about the ranch dressing, they changed the formula and it doesn't taste the same.
Also, their brand of PB&J swirl is not as good as the name brand. The peanut butter in the Aldi's mix is very dry and rips the bread.
The ground beef and pork is really good and their cheese is a good buy. Love their cottage cheese and yogurt. Never found a stone, but it might have been a seed or part of a seed which can happen.

I haven't seen milk that cheap here in...........I don't know when.

I pay about $3.49 a gallon. Must be that low cost of living we enjoy here in Arkansas.
